Even at 30 years of age, I still call it Marine World and have many fond memories of going there. The shark tank and other awesome exhibits and rides are lots of fun. And who needs Disneyland when you have the Looney Tunes there?!
Too bad you missed joker, best ride in the park. The lake is from the Marine World days, used to have a very entertaining ski stunt show... Grew up in the area and it's sad to see how it's fallen from its peak. The "back half" used to be the literal main attraction before Six Flags. I remember the Shark Experience being a destination attraction lol. Went there couple years ago and the gift shop was closed and the place was ROUGH. Also alot shorter than I remember as a kid. Sad they got rid of some of the animal attractions, the trainers always seemed to genuinely care. Miss riding the elephants too. I know some people think it's "cruel", but I strongly doubt a 12,000lb elephant notices 300-400lbs on their back 🫣
Last time I was at this place was 1993 when it was still Marine World Africa USA and I was six years old. When I heard it was turned into a Six Flags I felt a bit sad to see it go, but watching this I was pleasantly surprised to see how much of the old park they've kept around all these decades! Definitely never expected to hear about the butterfly sanctuary or shark encounter ever again! While not the biggest coaster guy by any means, a few of these look to be about my speed, so I'm happy to say I will no longer write off the possibility of going back to this place sometime in the future.
The flash has been closed for like 6 months. No idea what they're doing with it. Also, at least you didn't go on Harley Quinn. They scrapped the prototype ride and it was the worst one in the park. Kong is the second worst ride of the park, my head always hurts from hitting the restraints. The butterfly garden is literally like the best thing at Discovery Kingdom. Soon as they open, people go sprinting all the way back there just to go through it, it's so unique and a must visit first on anyone's list. As for joker, I went on it in 2001 when it was the roar roller coaster, I'm glad they converted it and kept it. If you don't get on it early, you're never going to ride it because the wait times are 3 hours sometimes because it's by far the best ride in the park, Medusa probably being second. Basically the classics.
The Kong was altered from its original design in order to convenience employees in offices below it... since the turn above the offices is much tighter now it has gotten many injuries on it... I wish the staff wouldn't have been so picky because it's now a liability
That conveyor belt in the shark exhibit hasn't worked for about 15 years if I remember correctly. last time I remember it working was in 2008-2010. Also I was just a kid then, but around the same time the conveyor belt worked, there used to be a tiny train that would do a smallish circle around that section of the park. I remember riding it when I was like 5-8 years old and terrified of roller coasters still. Kinda like the ones they have in malls occasionally, but this one was obviously on tracks.
That’s cool that you had a good day at the park! Personally this is my least favorite SF park, based on my one visit in 2019. Joker is great, but is my least favorite of the 8 RMCs I’ve ridden. Maybe it was just running slow, but I got two back row rides early in the day and I didn’t feel compelled to ride again. Medusa is definitely awesome and is my favorite ride at the park. Superman is also excellent, this is how all Sky Rocket 2 clones should be. I was also fortunate enough to ride V2, and got 4 rides in. It’s crazy that this is the third year since it last ran. Some cons for me were that the park as a whole felt like a discount park. I get the history of it and how all the coasters were an afterthought, which explains why they’re all at the front and not dispersed evenly around the park. It’s also clone heavy: there are 6 out of 9 major rides that are cloned (which is fine if this is the only six Flags park you visit, and I shouldn’t really count Superman since it was the first of its kind). Kong is the discount version of a Batman B&M clone, and Boomerang is pretty rough too. The ops at this park weren’t the greatest but not the worst either. I absolutely agree that rope drop is important here, because the park does get very busy, and you can knock out several major rides in the first 90-120 minutes. Great review, it’s nice to see a fresh opinion on this park!
Thanks! I'm happy you liked the review. Also, I agree that the ride lineup is not overall very deep or original, but I really enjoyed most of the coasters.
I went here once before it changed, and remember having fun there. I’ve been wanting to revisit it, but all’s we’ve done is talk about going, never actually make proper plans. I like roller coasters, but I’ve always been extremely iffy about going on ones that go upside down at times. It’s good to know there’s more to do there than just the big roller coasters.
@@ThemeParkAvenue Sometimes we do just enjoy walking around amusement parks, especially if they have beautiful scenery like this one does. I am curious though, do you know if there are any roller coasters that don’t go upside down? Or should I just try and go on the other rides?

I was a wimp though and never went in any if the coasters or scary rides, but now i will literally ride every coaster in the world. The lake used to be a Batman stunt show, and a sea lion named Kai died so the shows are now just only educational. The reason for that is because Kai was the main sea lion for the show.
Was raised in SoCal went to the six flags in So Cal as a kid now a adult living in Northern California. Love the park up here wouldn't go to SoCal again my kids love this park best also
The best way to get to this park is by Uber or taxi. It's way more worth it than parking and walking the whole way. My biggest complaint is there's no other way to get to and from DC Universe and the area with Medusa/Kong without walking all the way around the sea lion stadium and front entrance.
Excellent points. The way I did the trip, I was at a hotel easily within walking distance of the entrance, which saved time. Also, I agree that the layout is not great, but the park is small enough that I wasn't bothered by going from DC to Medusa too much.
The hotel across the street has daily parking for the park. Season pass holder here and Discovery Kingdom is my home park. I always park right across the street instead of the actual DK parking lot.
Its a 10 min walk at most stop being so soft and just walk there. Your ancestors went through wars and walked hundreds of miles for you to live and you complain about 10 minutes of walking and especially to a place where you will enjoy your day and get adrenaline rushes
This park used to be a zoo called marine world but after a while they added rides and six flags took over. It was to educate kids and people about wild animals and sea animals. I remember Marine world would come to my school and show off their animals.
I had a trip lined up to go there for the first time April 30th-May 1st...as it is a short Train+Bus ride from my house and the bus drops you right in front of the park...was going to stay at the redroof inn right down the street and just walk to it and back as it is less then a mile...Since I still have a Diamond Elite Membership+Deluxe Mealplan the whole trip isn't that much... But...things came up and had to cancel it for now...sigh...the opened weekends only thing , makes it hard for me to get the time...and summer...generally is terrible at all Amusement parks lol...
Great memories working here when I was a teenager. I was there for the last season it was marine world and the first season it was discovery kingdom. Kong, Medusa, and boomerang are og coasters at that park lol. The orca and dolphin shows use to be fun but im glad they don't have orcas anymore. The layout is funky because it was originally a animal experience park with very few rides in the 90s when it was marine world Africa USA.
I been working here for 2 years I really enjoy it and yes some of the rides will be close at times but just like everywhere else we are definitely short staffed for a Theme Park and since Covid it’s been really hard to Get Certain Parts for things I am sure but we try Our Best to give everyone Something to look Forward to when they Visit

Hi Eric. I'm planning on going to Six Flags for my birthday in a few weeks. I'm not a big fan of crazy rides that go upside down, or just up and down, and other more extreme stuff. Which ones are less crazy and more mild.
Hello! I think in terms of roller coasters you will be fine with Cobra and maybe the new Sierra Sidewinder. The train ride might also be a fun one for you. Outside of rides, the animal exhibits such as the shark encounter and butterfly garden are very enjoyable. Hope this helps!
We will be visiting the US from Europe this July and spend 5 days in both LA and SF. Which one would you recommend: Six Flags Magic Mountain near LA or this one near SF?
If you love roller coasters and thrilling rides, Magic Mountain is the better park. However, if you have to go to one park on a Saturday, you may have a crowded, miserable day at Magic Mountain and will want to go to Discovery Kingdom. My recent review of Magic Mountain from my March visit might help you out as well. If you have other questions or details that may help you decide, let me know.
@@ThemeParkAvenue Hey, thanks for the reply! I think that we would probably enjoy magic mountain more. Would it be too packed on a weekday in late July / early August? Don't want to be waiting 2 hours on every single queue.

Cool video bro. When I go on a coaster tour in Cali, this is where I plan to start. Btw I have a hilarious new poop coming up. This time it’s about our friend the block zone guru
There used to be a train that ran from where the giraffes are to a bit further past Shark Experience. It was replaced by a Thomas the Tank Engine ride that didn't last long.
2:47 I don't think the layout is poor. I like how you get to see all of the roller coasters. And I like it being a smaller park because its easier to navigate.
Local here who grew up going in the 90s. Back then it was still called Six Flags Marine World, and that lake use to host an awesome jet-ski stunt show with fire effects and music in the mid-late 90s. Best time to visit the park lol all the 30+ year old “old people” still call it Marine World 😂👍 Discovery Kingdom is too long for us hahaha
@@ThemeParkAvenue the park went corporate and bland in the mid-2000s when the Discovery Kingdom people bought the franchise. At least the park looks nice now and not “ghetto” anymore. But Marine World had its charm.
Hi there!😊 I’m looking to visit this Monday. I know school is in session now, do you believe it will be less packed? Any insight is appreciated. Thank you!
The park seems underrated, but better than sfne? New England's top 3 is great, riddler is a fun SLC (yes that's right), thunderbolt has some surprising airtime, and pandemonium is always a blast. Plus scream, ne skyscreamer, and cyborg are good flats. Also new England has a great waterpark, which discovery kingdom doesn't even have. Medusa and joker look amazing tho!
In my experience, the only good rides at New England are Superman, Wicked Cyclone, Joker, and Skyscreamer. I haven’t ridden the new version of the SLC, but every other coaster was either for families or really bad. I also don’t really consider the water park to be a part of the park in any park I go to. I just really enjoyed a lot of rides at SFDK.
@@ThemeParkAvenue I'm actually surprised you didn't like Batman, and I think that pandemonium is a fun family coaster. But yeah the park has one of the worst boomerangs and two cookie-cutter family coaster. Also, people say sfne is well themed for a six flags park, but I don't see it
If you are not a kid in school (K-12), then my recommendation when going to any of these theme parks would be to GO ON A SCHOOL DAY!! And of course go early.
@@ThemeParkAvenue no, line was why too long. Me and my friend split up with our other friends and went for medusa. It had a shorter line. I’ve been on joker once before, wish I could go again. It’s a shame they were running on 1 train. Thanks for asking tho!
I went yesterday and the flash is still closed but the one that was being made in ur vid was operating and the line was sooooo long bc only 1 cart goes at a time.
People that dislike animal shows at parks are incredibly strange in my opinion and due to this I will never be watching another one of your videos. Thanks for this review though. I am hitting this park for the first time in about a month from now and I am super excited. Too bad I will have to watch other channels for future reviews. Maybe I will check out a newer video in hopes you have educated yourself about amusement park animals but if not you will be on the do not watch list.
I don’t believe I ever said I disliked animal shows. I said I didn’t think they were particularly great at this one park. If I did say that, know that I’m not against the existence of animal shows and I love watching some of them.
I’ve had the same experience with joker the pass 3 or 4 times I haven’t ridden it since opening year so they definitely need to close that ride down and work on it
This park feels like wasted potential. It's in a great location, quite well connected by public transport to the rest of the (commercially important) Bay Area and the wildlife/theme park combo is tried and tested and a nice contrast to California's Great America. I visited today (June 2024) and the budget problems are obvious: many rides were not operating and the advertised "sea lions and seals" show was only 8 minutes long, with only one sea lion (ONE SEA LION). I think even the Looney Tunes Spectacular was longer and more elaborate. The layout is kind of odd, with all the thrill rides up towards the front and the gentler experiences at the back. The Batman and Superman coasters feel like they come from an era when the park needed to make a quick buck quickly and someone obviously had the bright idea to bring in cheap, low-capacity attractions to draw in crowds. The place is suffering from a real lack of investment, e.g. the hilly terrain cries out for a really good terrain coaster. The staff are the bright spot in an otherwise fairly soulless park. I wish this park had an expiry date rather than the much better (and much more charming) Great America. It feels like a tackier Busch Gardens. In conclusion, a missed opportunity.
The way you describe the walk is the way I would...but some lazy ass people would complain to the heavens that it's "too long". I know exactly what you're talking about, it's not a 'bothersome' amount of walking. It's like 3/4 of a mile but that's not really that far. Magic Mountain is pretty similar, as far as a long (but manageable) walk, except the park itself is HUGE for obvious reasons.
Absolutely. I only don’t enjoy a theme park walk when it’s difficult to find your way around or. If there’s very little to enjoy between major attractions. Discovery Kingdom has neither issue.
For a person who lives just down the street from discovery kingdom, this is a very underrated park and a favorite, (probably cause I can just drive there in like 3 minutws
personally like this park just think they could do so much more with it has alot of potential one or two more rides would probably make it my favorite in the valley area
@@ThemeParkAvenue some near the back would be cool something like that goes through a jungle area and is a big one but it would probably disturb the animals so would probably be easier near the front or grab more land
I'm going tomorrow for the first time, so I'm trying to familiarize myself with the rides. This park probably has the most intense rides I've ever seen! (then again, I haven't been to many parks)

@@ThemeParkAvenue Awesome, thank you 🫡
Cool video bro. When I go on a coaster tour in Cali, this is where I plan to start. Btw I have a hilarious new poop coming up. This time it’s about our friend the block zone guru
Thanks! I’m excited to see that YTP. Is it going to release on April Fool’s Day? I have a VERY interesting video releasing that day.
@@ThemeParkAvenue Yeah I’ll try to post on 4/1
Great!
I got to be one of the first riders of Medusa when it opened. It was marine world then
That’s amazing. Was it just as good back then?
There used to be a train that ran from where the giraffes are to a bit further past Shark Experience. It was replaced by a Thomas the Tank Engine ride that didn't last long.
Good to know, thanks!
I definitely gotta hit up this park sometime in the future. Thanks for the tips and review. Great video👍
I’m happy you liked it. I enjoy going in-depth about my travel experiences.
Nice review!
Thanks! It’s a really nice park and I was glad to go in-depth about my experience.
Joker was my fav when I went last weekend. Couldn’t do Kong or Flash cause they were closed but it was a great time.
Joker is excellent.
Sad the flash is my favorite ride I haven’t. Been in a few years but the last time I went to ride it it broke down mid ride
2:47 I don't think the layout is poor. I like how you get to see all of the roller coasters. And I like it being a smaller park because its easier to navigate.
The appearance of the roller coasters is great.
@@ThemeParkAvenueya! I also would not be sad by any means of Kong was shut down and removed today with no warning! Hate that ride!
I used to work at Medusa for 2 years back in the early 2000's. Better than working inside a fast food joint.
Operating a roller coaster sounds pretty interesting, though I’m certainly no expert.
That does sound awesome. Seems a lot has changed since then.
@@ThemeParkAvenue the park went corporate and bland in the mid-2000s when the Discovery Kingdom people bought the franchise. At least the park looks nice now and not “ghetto” anymore. But Marine World had its charm.
I swear I've been going to discovery for a really long time like 7 years and flash is never open.
Wow, that’s awful.
Yeah. 😔
Great video! Sounds like a great park!
It is great
@@ThemeParkAvenue That's awesome!
Hi there!😊 I’m looking to visit this Monday. I know school is in session now, do you believe it will be less packed? Any insight is appreciated. Thank you!
I think lines will certainly be short. Try to get on Joker multiple times if you can. I hope you enjoy!
The “ lake” is Dan Foley . That water if you look has an old stage area.. they used to have the Batman show there
Cool. Thanks for the information. I did notice the stage but I didn’t know what it was for.
I WENT THERE. MEDUSA IS SO DAM FUN. I RODE IT 3 time. Also it wasn’t crowded we were the 3rd visitors to get there
As someone who was born and raised there, I still love it even though I went there all the time!
It’s a very nice place.
Also, people say sfne is well themed for a six flags park, but I don't see it
This is my home park I think Superman, Wonder Woman, joker, and Batman are the best rides there
Those are all fantastic rides. Glad you have this as a home park.
If you are not a kid in school (K-12), then my recommendation when going to any of these theme parks would be to GO ON A SCHOOL DAY!! And of course go early.
Excellent advice. That has served me well in the past, but it is tougher with seasonal parks like this one.
You went the same day I did! So cool!
Awesome! Did you end up getting on Joker?
@@ThemeParkAvenue no, line was why too long. Me and my friend split up with our other friends and went for medusa. It had a shorter line. I’ve been on joker once before, wish I could go again. It’s a shame they were running on 1 train. Thanks for asking tho!
@@notsoberfazbear6874 sure thing! Thanks for watching.
Great review
Thanks!
I went yesterday and the flash is still closed but the one that was being made in ur vid was operating and the line was sooooo long bc only 1 cart goes at a time.
The joker was the best one there
I heard that Sidewinder Safari opened and I agree that Joker is great.
@@ThemeParkAvenue and for the joker I only had to wait 5 mins!
Just wondering does six flag still require for a vaccination status or a negative Covid test results?
I don’t think there is any limit but masks are recommended. You do not need any vaccination cards as far as I know.
@@ThemeParkAvenue thank you
@@Kscrochet sure thing.
I went there last summer. It was so fun but Superman was closed
:(
Unfortunately I couldn’t go on Joker because the line was too long
I miss marine world
People that dislike animal shows at parks are incredibly strange in my opinion and due to this I will never be watching another one of your videos.
@@ThemeParkAvenue I understand. I sincerely apologize. I came at you very unfairly. Great video I will definitely check out some other ones.
@@joeyh2237 No problem. I’m glad we could sort this out and I appreciate your comments and input.
Sidewinder is open. We rode it 2 weeks ago. It’s a great kid friendly family ride
I did here about the opening. It looks like a solid ride with some good theming.
I’ve had the same experience with joker the pass 3 or 4 times I haven’t ridden it since opening year so they definitely need to close that ride down and work on it
That’s very interesting to hear! I figured it was common since the employees joked about it. Thanks for watching!
Do you Superman Ultimate Flight is the best roller called “Superman” of which there are many?
No. I prefer Superman the Ride at Six Flags New England.
I think that is really fun too!
Is this park worth getting a season pass?
If you're living in the area or going often, yes.
I used to work near there. Didn’t go ever because I wanted to go with a group. Imma go July/august for sure
I hope you have a great time!
Discovery Kingdom has neither issue.
the coaster that u said that only had 2 tracks is almost done i think i went yesterday and it’s like half way done
10:01
there’s like a few more tracks they have to put in so maybe by summer it will be open👍
I heard that construction picked up recently, and that’s great! Thanks for the information.
For a person who lives just down the street from discovery kingdom, this is a very underrated park and a favorite, (probably cause I can just drive there in like 3 minutws
It is super underrated.
Can you take your go pro on the rides?
No you can not. You are allowed to email an executive to ask for permission, but they’ll probably say no.
@@ThemeParkAvenue Thank you
personally like this park just think they could do so much more with it has alot of potential one or two more rides would probably make it my favorite in the valley area
I agree. There are some ride ideas I have in mind that could probably go a long way.
@@ThemeParkAvenue some near the back would be cool something like that goes through a jungle area and is a big one but it would probably disturb the animals so would probably be easier near the front or grab more land
@@shredder8677 agreed
I remember when that park was Marine World.
That was quite a while ago, I never got to experience that.
How much is parking?
I believe it is $30 for general parking.
is there water rides there?
Yes. They have a fun River rapids ride and a short but enjoyable chute ride with a good drop.
This is the park closest to me and I go here a lot, it is a lot of fun
I hope Cedar Point gets a Theatrical Movie.
That would be insane
These joker incidents do happen a lot when we went a few days ago it Got delayed more than three times
I figured it was a common thing.
Where’s the kids area??
Ik we waited so long for joker to stop testing
I'm going tomorrow for the first time, so I'm trying to familiarize myself with the rides. This park probably has the most intense rides I've ever seen! (then again, I haven't been to many parks)
It does have some great, underrated rides.
GOING IN 2 DAYS.
@@marisataylor1987 have fun! Thanks
Yes it is soo underrated but whats the best is i live so close to it so i can ho whenever!

I went to discover Kingdom today and I honestly thought Medusa and Wonder Woman were the best.
They are both great.
I have a choice to visit Discovery Kingdom or Great America. Which one do you recommend? I’m mainly going for coaster thrills. Great video. Thanks!
I recommend California's Great America as it has stronger roller coasters overall. Glad you enjoyed this!
Rides testing repeatedly and not opening? Sounds like American Dream Mall.
lol
I love the madusa
Awesome! It is very fun.
This is my home park def underrated
For sure.
Last time I was there was when I was a kid and it was called marine world
I've heard about the history, seems like the park changed a lot.
I work here and I seen the food Supervisor Anna spit in food
Awww RIP hammerhead.
I didn’t know it was gone, that’s sad to hear.
The poor cats and giraffes deserve more room
ya rides there tend to brake down alot sometimes depnds the day
That’s unfortunate but not surprising. A lot of parks in the chain have operation issues.
Went today rode medusa 3 times
Awesome! I loved Medusa. What did you think?
@@ThemeParkAvenue it was great but i waited in the joker line for an hour just for them to send us out because of technical difficulties
