Such a nice video Leslie! You're the reason ive started watercolours! I think I have used them for over a year now and improved a lot. I love to watch ur long form videos in the background while I'm painting. Hope you have a nice day :)
Black earth is a fun pigment in abstract landscapes. Any of the paints you might be less inclined to use can be fun with that. I prefer to use creamy paint to play that way. Part of the point of it for me is observing how the pigments push and pull each other.
I've never been able to afford A.Gallo but I hope to one day and I can experience them myself. Ty for your delightful description, I could almost imagine the smell. Lapis Lazuli will be the first one.
Dear Leslie, again watching your Video playing around with my A.gallo colours. I´ve curated my very own palette. I love all their colours, but very special is Medici red, Ruby red, Quin. magenta, Pietra rosa (you´ll love it, if you love Potters Pink), Potters Pink, Notturno, Aquamarin, Harbour Blue (BIG LOVE!!), Indanthrone Blue, Deep Sea green, Olive green deep, Perylene Maroon and their Payne´s Grey. Warm greetings from Northern Germany!
Thank you Leslie! It is helpful to see how consistent the tubes are to the pans. My A Gallo favorites are Gold Ochre, Pietra Rosa, Olive Green Deep and Harbor Blue.
Thanks for doing this experiment! 🙏 My friend and I would love to see those earthy reds available too. I had no idea about the history of potter's pink! 🤯 The lapis lazuli info from A. Gallo was inspiring - can't wait to see how it behaves! Do update us! 🤩
Thank you, that was very informative! I’m glad the tube paints don’t dry sticky, most honey based paints do. If you want to experiment with the PBk11 try mixing it with some bright colours - it should granulate and separate. It’s the only black I can get excited about 😊
A. Gallo pigments are my absolute favorites to work with. Once you start buying them, it becomes very addicting. The colors are just so beautiful and the formula is amazing! One quick thing… A Gallo swatch cards are all made from Arches paper, unless that’s recently changed.
Ah, I thought it was Fabriano paper. Maybe it used to be? I know they use Arches for their colour charts. That personal touch of providing 100% cotton paper for swatch sheets is one of the things that sets them apart.
I would absolutely love to see your limited palette color choices. I was just looking at their paints over and over again during the sale… But I am so greedy and just could not limit myself to a small palette… I just kept putting together palettes that were out of my current budget… So I decided to wait for a future sale to get the tubes (only the pans were on sale…). Gotta say their website is awesome, the palette builder just had me going there building palettes over and over again… 😅
I love A Gallo watercolors. I bought the Plein Air tube set. I had three of the colors in pans and three of the tube colors were new to my collection. I'd enjoy seeing you create a travel palette with them.
Thank you so much! I had just been thinking I needed to get some of the tube colors from my Natale pans to compare the two. You've saved me the time and $ for now. Thanks again.
Thank you very much for sharing this valuable video. I’m relieved that the smell isn’t like M. Graham’s; that one isn't very pleasant. The colors are beautiful! I’ll be waiting for a tube sale at Jackson's.
I haven’t even watched more than five minutes into the video yet, I love A.Gallo paints. In fact, adore them would be a better word. Their customer service is second to none when I was looking at their tubes when they launched, I realise that they were actually a few colours that I haven’t heard of before I messaged them and my contact there told me that yes there are a few new colours that are only available in tubes. They also let me know that some of the colours that have the same names as the ones in the pans have a very slight different fabulation, or that they are more intense in the tube range as opposed to that. of the dried pans. However, in my experience, they are extremely well made either way and behave accordingly. They are completely transparent in their information. All you need to do is ask.
23:17 a comparison of the two could be nice to see for those of us who are less experienced with pouring pans so we can kinda know what it supposed to be like on page vs not
@@LeslieStrozThe two lapis lazuli’s that you poured? I just wanted to know the difference beyond the drying time between a paint that had too much binder versus the right amount if that makes sense. The reason is is I know personally at the cost of paint that I would be tempted to use the other one anyway and I just like to know what the difference is and why I should or shouldn’t do this.
Lapis lazuli paints tend have a property of not showing up on the paper, even when tonnes of colour is used. This could happen since cheaper lapis lazuli often contains white calcite impurities. Historically, well known artists only used the highest quality minerals with least impurities, not to mention extremely expensive.
These paints have been on my wishlist for a couple of years now- I finally ordered and got my palette yesterday! It's weird, but I can't smell the rosemary that people say they use...maybe they stopped using it? Also, when I ordered here in the US, it came from Maine, so good news that they have a distribution warehouse stateside! It came super fast too. Can't wait to play with them!!
@@LeslieStroz ah ok- I got the pans so maybe when I work into them some more the aroma will get released- so far, I love them! I chose my own palette to start and mostly got the naturals- but I have to say my favorite colors so far are the copper blue, pietra rose, vivianite and slate grey! They do such a beautiful job with all the colors and the packaging incredible...😊
Leslie, I’m not sure if you know there’s actually a video showing it A.Gallo Hand swatch all their labels with the colour that is going to be in them by the batch that is in them. So that’s why it’s 100% accurate. They painstakingly do this, and it adds such a beautiful touch not to mention this watching paper is the same paper that you can get to paint on no corners are cut in quality at any stage.
Hullo Leslie, I truly love A.Gallo paints! I am a fan and I wish I could afford to use it on a more consistent basis. I have DaVinci Paints of California as my Go To Paint as it is a real professional grade paint that is reasonably priced for everyday use! I have half pans and I am saving up for full pans. I like the idea of purchasing tubes, but I’m not so sure if I can make a real difference pouring my one pans. I believe that leaving the mixing and pouring to the professionals. I am curious about the new Yinmin blue (sp) I would love to see more paintings using this beautiful blue color. Landscape to portraits of people and pets too! I hope you are able to show us some of these ideas and share your thoughts and experiences on theses paints too.
I’ve not tried that one yet, but it does look beautiful. There are so manny good paint companies these days. I’m wanting to explore this one thoroughly to get a better sense for all I can do. So far it’s getting an A+.
Lovely video! I learned a lot about watercolors through you and I'm starting to see improvements in my arts. Will you be making a video about different kinds of masking fluids and tapes??
Beautiful colors. Interesting to hear about the origins of the pigments. Does your Patreon cover basics of watercolor mixing, techniques, etc.? I would like to develop an understanding of how to use watercolors. The more I learn, the less I know how to use them in painting. Thanks Leslie. Love your videos. 😊
Thanks! My middle tier has a colour mixing magic video each month where I give colour mixing tips and occasional swatching. I’ll be adding some more basic colour theory videos soon as well. 😊
The lapiz is low tinting. I usually use my French UM to make darks. Hard to make darks with it I guess. Plus, isn’t that one tube expensive? Gorgeous video!
I have a couple of sets of pans from A. Gallo and some of them had bubbles as well when they were brand new. I think it’s just a characteristic of the paint rather than your pouring technique or user error
Any split primary (a cool and warm for each primary), plus an earth red and an earth yellow. If you have more space add a few you’d love to work with. 😊
I’ve spent over a year collecting A. Gallo watercolors. I’m so in love 🥰
Such a nice video Leslie! You're the reason ive started watercolours! I think I have used them for over a year now and improved a lot. I love to watch ur long form videos in the background while I'm painting. Hope you have a nice day :)
Awww thanks so much! It’s nice to know I’m keeping another artist company in the studio. 😊

Yes, I think that’s true. It’s nice to explore things we normally resist. 😊
I've never been able to afford A.Gallo but I hope to one day and I can experience them myself. Ty for your delightful description, I could almost imagine the smell. Lapis Lazuli will be the first one.
I love its historical significance. 😊

Ooh thanks for the recommendations! I’ll have to investigate. 😊

I love the stories behind all of their pigments and how they source them. 😊
What a wonderful experiment. I love A.Gallo and i was curious about differences about pan and tubes. Thanks❤
Happy to help! 😊

I’ve had great experiences with them as well. Everything about them and their products is a class act. It’s so refreshing.

I did compare them later in the video.

Yes, that makes sense. I love this one but only as an extra blue.
I love my A. Gallo paints. I like that they have tubes now.

I smell it more with the tubes than the pans. They definitely still use it. 😊

Cool colors

Yes, I prefer ultramarine for mixing, but this one would be great in skies!
Great info Thanks
I had considered my A Gallo palette to be complete, but I might have to splurge again to get a tube version of that lapis lazuli 🤔
It’s so soft and pretty 😊
I have a couple of sets of pans from A. Gallo and some of them had bubbles as well when they were brand new. I think it’s just a characteristic of the paint rather than your pouring technique or user error
Yes I think that may be correct. I was reading their website today and they say that slight imperfections like that are normal and not a concern.
What are your top ten colors for a travel pallet?
Any split primary (a cool and warm for each primary), plus an earth red and an earth yellow. If you have more space add a few you’d love to work with. 😊
Use a cocktail stick to mix in binder while its stillin the tube!
I normally would for other brands, but I didn’t want to add anything to these for this comparison. 😊
👍🏻
On their website, there's a downloadable PDF with all the pigment information.... and I just bought 15 colors, thanks for that... lol 😅
Sorry! 😅
Mam which pen woukd you recommend for ink and watercolor sketch?
I made a video testing and showing my favourites. You can find it here: ua-cam.com/video/huHYQ02-rrQ/v-deo.htmlsi=GT_G_DapaeT1qOvT
I’ve never heard of Lazuli pronounced that way. Is it a British thing? I’m Canadian. We pronounce it Laaa zooo lee
It must be British, yes. I used to pronounce it the way you said here, but my language is confused since living in England for over a decade.
