Nice review Scott! Looks like I have some stiff competition in the "Chocolate That's Included with Art Brushes" review category. Thanks for the shout out!
Scott, great review bu I have one comment on the pure sables you got. Those you have are liner brushes. They are not meant for mixing color or blending. They are for fine lines. Like if you had a long thin line, not really found in portrait type painting. I have been using Rosemary brushes for land scapes, stil lifes, whih I use different types of brushes by Rosemary, and some portrait work, where I do use her rounds for many years. You might say before they were cool.. I would like to suggest you try her Series 99 Pure Sables. These are wonderful brushes like all of her products. I swear by them.Coming from a South Texas painter. 😀
I was going to say the same thing, these are sable rigger or liner brushes, for fine lines or your signature, something where you need fine control and for the brush to hold a good amount of paint so you can do a long, continuous stroke. He should have tried the sable in a regular round, same as the synthetics he got.
Wind River Arts sells Rosemary from Texas. Shipping would be closer to eight dollars? (variable) but a fraction of England source, but no swag and no Rosemary dog photos.
Thank you for this review, will have to try synthetic round brushes! I definitely like Rosemary synthetic bristle filbert brushes for underpainting and they hold form well after been used many times, and filbert sable or ebony, also filbert, for blending. But for everything else usually buy less expensive ones from the local art store.
Appreciate the review! I started an order from Rosemary about a month ago and when I got to the shipping it was as much as my order itself...so I didn't go through with it. I guess one day I will just have to bite the bullet and go for it.
I think their Golden Nylon (series 313) is their student range. They also have Golden Synthetic (series 301) which is their higher range and I love those :)
Hi Scott I have always wondered ,,what kind of brushes do you use for your portraits….this video came as ordered..😃I use the Rosemary brushes for landscape painting and use the ones from Michael James Smith landscape Artist..and I really can say these brushes are very useful..(they really do make a difference and use them now for about four years..)..you always said you use just simple synthetic brushes..I now work on a large painting with figures in it and really need the ones you use 🤔(by following your tutorials)now looking at your video until the end I just knew these would be the ones you would like.. (the nylon classic rounds)so happy to have seen your video …bye Scott..happy painting from Croatia..!😃👋
Great review, thanks! Did a little research and it seems the three short handle brushes are series 313 Golden Nylon? Wind River Arts in Texas carries a large selection of Rosemary brushes very reasonably priced. The 313 series aren't on the their website but you can order them by phone, don't be surprised when an actual person answers! $8-ish shipping, not sure about the chocolate.
yes, they are very good quality, durable and consistent; the best, at least in europe. I live on the continent so shipping is not a problem for me even with brexit. they also have a nice PR policy with customers. The workhorse for me is the ivory flat series (the ideal brush for me). Also use tischler's hog bristles for under-painting/rapid first layer and eclipse long flat series for thick strokes/details.
Want me to tell you something that will make you give Rosemary several marks down? I got a set of brushes from Rosemary last month... & got 6 chocolates.
Alex's tech is not in any way superior to yours, perhaps more pronounced warm cold play, as to his fav subject- pmsing redhead females- def a niche play You are the best on utub !
Thank you for this review. The assortment and cost is surprising, large on the former and reasonable on the latter. . I am liking the Rosemary Sable "Spotters" and the Sable "Brights". That rigger you were using is for long lines like details on carriage wheels and, as someone said, tree limbs.
Sables: I find them really useful on very smooth surfaces, like panels with grounds that have been scraped or sanded flat. Nylon and Taklon brushes are too prone to lifting paint on that sort of surface, and sable brushes totally don't. I typically stick with Kolinsky sables, despite the price, because they have a good amount of snap to them where regular red sable brushes tend to be sort of... limp. On a textured surface like linen, though, sables are less good and I'd typically just stick with synthetics.
Thank you so much for your most useful review and all the videos ! Just wonderful ! Please could you let me know which synthetic brushes from Rosemary brushes did you tested . I just checked the site and there are a few synthetic options ! i would so much appreciate if you could share which line synthetic ones you like to use ! Thank you in advance !
Hi Scott, how are you? man, you are one of my favorite artists and your videos are amazing. With that, I would like to know if you intend to put subtitles, because English is not my native language and it would help me a lot (not only me but people from all over the world) Congratulations for the excellent work! 🙏
Very good review thank you. I would have been interested in your view of her hog hair bristle brushes, I have heard mixed reviews but quite like them myself. Incidentally the colour in that Waterhouse copy was absolutely divine.
Sables are generallly perfect for the final stages and blending because of the nature of the hair is very soft. Hog hairs perfect for laying down the first marks because they have flags on each bristle, sort of like a split end, which caters to anyone who wants to load more paint on their brush. Also, Rosemary co do “mundy mops” they aren’t sable but good for blending too.
So I know next to nothing about oil painting and only a bit about watercolor but I was under the impression that sable brushes were great for watercolor or ink work so maybe thats why you don't like them? I don't know though, I mostly watch your videos to throw suction cup darts at my monitor while your talking as a way to relieve some of the boredom here at work. Enjoy your videos man, keep it up.
I tried ordering some Rosemary brushes a couple of months ago. Got as far as the checkout and it wouldn't complete the order. Messaged Rosemary asking for help. Have never heard from them. Pax
Thanks for the review Scott, was curious about these. Actually admired that about you that every artist seems to be enthralled by Rosemary brushes and you always have a whatever works stance on your tools, doesn't matter if it's not the highest end. You've made incredible works without them but it's good to know they're quality brushes and their longevity is a cut above. A note on sable though, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to buy sable in the US, I'm surprised you managed to get them shipped to you. 😅
there are so many less expensive alternatives! OMG! how all great Russian, European and American artists did their masterpieces without Rosemary brushes! really! save your money unless you are a really successful artist
(Scott makes a mess; throws lids on floor). You're hilarious, Scott. You know, being "contrary by nature" is one of the traits of an intelligent person. And your work is incredible; everyone should know your name. You're allowed to be eccentric when you're a genius 😂.❤❤

I am looking forward to ordering my Scott Waddell set as soon as possible. ;) ;) Rosemary Brushes.

I love and use Rosemary and Co brushes all the time (for watercolour) they are excellent brushes.
I use Rosemarys, bloody good brushes

the running on empty food review bit really got me
I love Rosemary’s Brushes, but I am a Brit, so the cost is very reasonable here. Ivory and Evergreen are my favourite for oils.
it's reasonable in US too. Brushes are 9 dollars, shipment makes it a little more but 31 dollars total.
Agred on your choices...... from a fellow 'cheap as chips postage ' Brit 🙂
The prices are even more reasonable for Americans as we don’t have VAT
I only use Rosemary Brushes and have done for a few years now and are the best i have ever bought for my art, my media being Oils.

agree with the rosemary brushes. they are absolutely fantastic
I love the way you present your videos.

Please do a review of Trekell brushes! :)
Haha I’m a Brit and this was pretty funny. Love the humour and sarcasm…are you sure you are not part Brit!? 😉

붓 사고싶은데 정확한제품 을모르겠어요 상세히알려주시면감사하겠음니다~
the sable you are using are riggers, and only really good for tree branches or as the name applies ships rigging.
Thank you for this review! What type of set/number are the nylon ones?
Glad am early to this great vid!

Merci pour ces conseils 👍

"I need a workshop with Alex!!!" lol.
Heya, Scott! Have you tried the sables for blending? I've heard that sables work well for this, but have not yet tried it.

Why am I seeing mirror image video Scott, do you do this itinually?
I look into Alex venecia stile...I love your better..👏
The only thing I love Sable brushes for is pinstriping or sign painting. I've yet to find a use for them in the realm of grown up art.
Thanks. Very helpful :-)

sables-use for signing your name
These brushes do sound fine.
If I lost my Isabey and Raphael brushes, then I will max out my card at Rosemary and Co.
I love love love my Isabey brushes.
It's Rosemary and co for anyone trying to find them.
Hi Scott I suggest you to try their Michael klein synthetic brush, I think can suit well your paint style. Anyway great video
Are you a painter by day and comedian by night?
They haven’t asked me either! Oh the nerve of those people!
I tlike that this guy admits uncomfortable tings most people wont, hes also a good painter, obviously./

I generally use vegan brushes, but have had no trouble ordering sable in the US, from US shops like Jerry's and Blick...
I love that you say you're contrarian by nature. you're an ENTP arent you 😆
🙏👏👏👏👏
$7 is not high my man... its not bad for the size of that box.
I got my package today, but there is no chocolate.....
Well they’re cheaper than any other brushes that you don’t get from the dollar store and the quality is high so yes
there are so many less expensive alternatives! OMG! how all great Russian, European and American artists did their masterpieces without Rosemary brushes! really! save your money unless you are a really successful artist

Yeah, but using a rigger for stuff it was never designed for, and then expressing dissatisfaction…that was a little embarrassing…
Hilarious!
Omgggg why’d you trigger me into wanting Wendy’s 💀
Your more a make up artist than a painter methinks.
TALK LESS, SAY MORE 😉🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰👍
