Facts, Cube was incredible at his peak. That peak lasted years as well. Very underrated due to time passing and things changing. But some of us were def there.
Big Facts. I'm from Buffalo and I remember besides KRS-1, Cube was the only Rapper who made you think that wasn't a weirdo. Pac did it, but you can tell he was inspired by Ice Cube. My Pops used to be in the Kitchen smoking weed listening to those white Farrahkan tapes and I used to pass by but the information didn't really settle in on me mostly because I was like 9-10 years old at the time 😂. But when I heard that Predator album as a kid Cube brought everything full circle. So no Biggie who was a better "Wordsmith" was nowhere near Ice Cube as a Lyricist and a Storyteller. PS. "Summer Vacation" was the obvious inspiration for "Every day Struggle" my favorite Biggie song.
As a rapper ice cube is trash compared to biggie. Impact wise maybe ice but skill wise biggie is better and had less albums and time so big gipp is wrong here you can’t compare them
Biggie had Cubes blueprint to work from. Thats like watching Isaih Thomas and saying hes trash because his style doesnt look as advanced as Kyries handles. Cube was a top emcee in the era he came out in lol
If we talking about real life imagery, resolve, black self worth, production, and cinematics...its HARD to find a better album than Death Certificate in hip-hop.

@@bobafett317 At one point Cube was probably the most popular rapper in the country. He was huge all throughout the 90's but the early-90's saw him drop 3 classic solo albums right out of the gate. Even before both The Chronic and Doggystyle came out. 2Pac was doing good but it wasn't until his 2nd or 3rd album he really started gaining popularity. Then Cube drops the 'Bow Down' album with WSC which made him even more popular. People all over the country were throwing up the "W."

Honestly i have to agree with Big Gip. I love both artist but Ice Cube body of work stretches far. It just the fact Biggie had great music but his career was taken away early . Ice Cube stood the test of time and his songs was not radio friendly but he had great political messages in his gangsta music. Ice Cube has always try to put you on game and he has always been woke since a teenager. I love them both. R.I.P. Biggie
Ice Cube is A top five rapper of all time, I know people gone get at me, but He was that guy, He was the head writer for NWA, and they got classic albums. Secondly he leaves NWA and creates multiple classic albums. He was talking that gangsta rebellious $hit back in the day. People either forget or don’t know how skilled Ice Cube was. He’s a different animal.
It’s a few rappers that for reasons unknown to me always get forgotten when it comes to these conversations. Ice Cube, LL Cool J, Scarface amongst a few others. Ice Cube is a top 5 rapper of all time his resume is too strong not to be.
Stop with the head writers of NWA shit cause if anybody was that it was Doc and they wrote for Eazy majority of Eazy duz it Doc worte Eazy’s verses on fuck the police and straight outta Compton
Absolutely. People should be able to distinguish between socially conscious content and street gangsta content. It's the same with Pac and Big comparison. Tupac will always win because he had political and social content, while Big, though talented, was not socially conscious. Ice Cube is closer to Pac than Big is so similarly, you can't compare Ice Cube with Biggie.
I agree with your statement. I got Pac over Biggie because Pac wrote about multiple topics and subjects, he was multi lanes when it came to his raps. Biggie for the most part rapped about the same things, money, drugs, and mafioso stuff, which at times he was 🧢 about just to make his rhymes sound nice.

There was a guy here on UA-cam who was very angry at Cube, because when he was little, he believed everything about Cube’s lyrics and image. “You can be the best at rapping about drugs, but that dont make you better than kendrick lamar who can rap about life” Thank you gipp!!! Thing i dont like about the hiphop audience is ppl act like we have to all agree on whos the best but art is subjective. What one rapper does for you might not do it for me
Art is indeed subjective but talent and skill level certainly are not. Andy Warhol paintings may be worth millions but no one would ever suggest his work is in the same class as Leonardo da Vinci or Vincent Van Gogh. Someone raised in Florida is more inclined to listen to Plies or Kodac Black rather than J Cole or Meek Mill but to say plies or kodac are as talented as these other two would be preposterous. They may be as accomplished musically, but objectively speaking, they're not as talented lyrically. A person's preference will always be subjective in nature, talent will always be objective.
@@chosen_remnant whos to say they arent talented lyrically because they didnt hit the marks you feel they should? Clearly they do for somebody. The problem with your point is there is no tangible way to measure good lyrics.it always just comes back to a feeling and a vibe which is subjective. You can say one used more metaphors but that dont mean ppl wont “perceive” those metaphors as corny . You can say someone told a good story but shat about the listeners who just want something catchy with a good flow. Different strokes for different folks. Now if you wanna talk about cultural impact i think theres a better argument to be made for that. Lyrics arent like a piano in which we can measure the chords scales notes and intervals to determine the difficulty and skill level of the pianist. Lyrics are just whos saying what with a delivery that resonates with ppl at the time

No lies told, if you know you know. Sad part is that we never got to see the full potential of Big with such a limited body of work. He was getting better & better, I mean the growth from Ready To Die to Life After Death was insane...lyrics, production, finding his vocal pocket (pre-album & Ready To Die he was still yelling into the mic giving him a different vocal sound), could collab with any MC & never get outshined, etc. But Cube's body of work is a different monster & his body of work speaks for itself, Cube literally check's all boxes you would want from a MC. They both share a lot of parallel's, being the pen's behind group's/rappers (Cube..NWA, Eazy E..etc./Big..Lil Kim, Puffy, Jr Mafia..etc), both having classic album's (both also have a Source 5 Mic album which is still credible to a lot of fans), both have timeless songs, both were clear cut icons of their coasts...the list goes on. Can Big outrap Ice Cube? He probably could but when we talking about ranking the whole body of work has to be considered. I mean Big L could outrap a lot of the great's, but I wouldn't put him in front of LL Cool J on a ranking system.

I usually don't agree with this guy but he's speaking the truth like how can you just discredit Cubes entire catalog to 2 albums. Biggie is nice no question but what he made so far musically wasn't enough to say he was better. Biggies career was unfortunately just cut short and that's why hip-hop still mentions him because fans know what he was capable of.
Ice cube was a great rapper that's true but biggie could rap like cube but cube could never rap like biggie. For example could cube get on a track with bone thugs and kill them with their own flow . I speak with facts u speaking with emotions
Gipp speaking facts. I'm old enough to remember the time. Biggie was dope, but the moment he died they tried to elevate him to God status, and that was mainly because New York was jealous that Tupac had achieved God status so quickly after his death
That was a pretty compelling case. Ice Cube was my first favorite rapper. But then came Pac. Biggie definitely stood on Cube's shoulders when it comes to story telling. "Ghetto Vet" and "Today was a good day" can go up against anything Biggie put out.
I think most, including Big Gipp, are missing the actual question. They’re asking who is the greater RAPPER. Not better Artist, not better lyricist, not better career. Biggie is the better rapper. His style of spitting was so melodic and flowed with the music almost like a singer. His inflections, his accentuations, his tonation. Then he showed when he rapped with BTNH that he could switch styles but so keep his signature on it. Big is the better rapper. And for context I’ll put it like this Rihanna has a better career, more hits, and is a bigger star than Jazzmine Sullivan but Jazzmine is the better singer. We confuse sales with talent. Personally, I don’t really care about hits I care about actual talent. I love Gipp but he totally missed the question lol
That’s a good point of view. I think that the best anything is a combination of of all things tho. For example, Brady probably wasn’t the best at anyone thing or skill but a complete body of work.
Real spit, the answer was to who was a better story teller as well. Summer Vacation/Ghetto Vet/It Was A Good Day/How To Survive in South Central/Dope Man/Who's The Mack/Check YoSelf/Gangsta Fairytales/ Dude Wake Yhe Fuck Up....

Those two or 3 Biggie albums were better then any of Ice Cube Albums. This is coming from an Ice Cube Stan. Early West Coast stuff got attention from the shock not how great the albums where put together.
Stop it. Biggie studied Cube's, Snoops's, and the Chronic and modeled his album after those records. If you listen to his mixtapes, Biggie rapped over Westcoast beats. Cube is known for being cinematic, so he can write scripts and dialogue well. Cube makes you feel like you are with him or the character. Biggie should had multiple flows and rode the beat like no other, plus his breathing was impeccable, but that still does not match Cube's storytelling and social, cultural, and political insight manifested in his records.
I’m not going to debate who was better I love both biggie and ice cube both had talent as an artist. Biggie was more lyrical and cube was like a narrator telling you what’s going on in the hood. The question on Drink Champs was for Yayo to decide which rapper would he pick, in other words, between the two choices, which rapper was more influential to HIM(Yayo)…! Not me, not you, and not Big Lipp. Yayo just gave an opinion. I’m an Ice Cube fan, not an NWA fan, and I don’t think of Cube being doper than Biggie, but Cube had very little lyrical competition on the west coast from 1989-1991. By ‘94, Biggie had comp that killed ish on both coasts. End of story
Very little competition? Totally forgetting DOC and King Tee....Plus, if you’re of age you know there were no coasts at all in 91. So Cube’s competition was all of Hip Hop then--the time of Grand Puba, Kane, G Rap....to many more to name. Coasts weren’t even a thing until after the Chronic.
@@christopherlogan3032 Respectfully begging your pardon… You just named three of the best lyrical comps in ‘91. You just proved my point. I did say Cube had very little competition. D.O.C. was the other lyrical miracle writer during that time, and he still couldn’t create a body of work like Ice Cube’s albums! As far as coasts are concerned, Ice T will concur with me that “coasts” existed as soon as Cali rappers got on records. Please don’t forget that NWA always had a slight bias towards east coast rappers (ask the rap group HBO). I’m from the east, and I remember being pleasantly surprised by the lyrical prowess of Ice Cube after he left NWA. Like a lot of people on my coast, I had the temporary opinion that west coast kids were babies on the mic. And then Cube became the first MC to change all that for me. And just like Yayo, that was simply my opinion.

Really, I was even listening to Outkast and Goodie Mob on Fulton Street in Brooklyn. You shouldn’t feel disrespected at all bro. Personally, I think Project Pat is the best story teller but that’s just my opinion. Lighten up fam it’s still all love at the end of the day. Now with that being said, who do you consider to be the greatest story teller rapper?
Life after death seems more like a puffy album. He picked all the beats and features and just had biggie put verses on them songs for majority of that album.
Cube is the best storyteller of the 2. Biggie was better lyrically in the traditional sense. Still, Cube had more hard hitting rhymes, so I'm with O'Shea
Ice Cube had his first record deal at age 14 thanks to Lonzo Williams. Cube did put in more work catalog wise. Cube wrote a lot for NWA and Eazy E at age 17 before going solo and having his success
First album wasn’t all that brotha .. Nas had the east coast && wu tang was poppin poppin .. if anything he was the east coast Cube .. He was a gangsta rapper
Cube catolog and impact from 88-93 is hard to compete with From group albums, solo albums to writing material for other artists with that being said big also had a incredible run from 94-97 not just two solo albums but countless remixes and features...also have to be mindful big wrote for junior mafia album in 95, lil kim album in 96 and contributed to diddy album in 97...cube certainly was more conscious and political rapper But i would give big slight edge over cube when it comes to storytelling thou cube was great in that dept also!!!
Absolutely NOT! Normally I agree with what Big Gipp said in his 'Art' interviews....BUT not this time. Cube can live to 100 & put out 50 albums yet only 1 of them truly matter/mattered. Cube is a great rapper BUT BIG with his small catalog is still a better and more influential rapper. Sorry NOT SORRY. Just like Cube deserves his respect we're not gonna act like BIG didn't do a gang of features outside of releasing 2 albums one of which was a DOUBLE album in such a brief window.
Every summer in the 90’s Cube was droppin new hits.
As a rapper ice cube is trash compared to biggie. Impact wise maybe ice but skill wise biggie is better and had less albums and time so big gipp is wrong here you can’t compare them

Ice Cube is the GOAT.

“You can be the best at rapping about drugs, but that dont make you better than kendrick lamar who can rap about life” Thank you gipp!!! Thing i dont like about the hiphop audience is ppl act like we have to all agree on whos the best but art is subjective. What one rapper does for you might not do it for me
Kendrick Aite I think J.Cole better
@alexheredia9108 shit up
Art is indeed subjective but talent and skill level certainly are not.
Kendrick is trash

Big Cube fan from day one. Gipp didn't lie 110%
This man is absolutely correct 💯💯💯💯💯

@@MrWARBUCKS24 we fw ny too Bronx week is transplants we have a lot of new Yorkers here
I’m 29 year old New Yorker and I grew up on cube and biggie and even I agreee .. ice cube is greater … his catalog is crazy
Those two or 3 Biggie albums were better then any of Ice Cube Albums.
This is coming from an Ice Cube Stan. Early West Coast stuff got attention from the shock not
how great the albums where put together.
Gtfho liar you are not an ice cube Stan bullshit
@@crenshawgrinder4725dude u funny asf. Foh with that
@@gregoryjones7074naw you're the delusional one here bruh. Now was Biggie better at wordplay...absolutely, but Cube had better subjects
Ice Cube's album "Amerikkka's Most Wanted" is better than anything Biggie has released.
I’m not going to debate who was better I love both biggie and ice cube both had talent as an artist. Biggie was more lyrical and cube was like a narrator telling you what’s going on in the hood. I love both. My favorite biggie story telling song was somebody gotta die, that song was like biggie was writing a scene in a script for a movie one of the best story telling songs I’ve heard.
Same
@Me.CalCal you buying fir them bitter New York cats
In Ice Cube actually wrote a whole movie script in 1995 called Friday biggie will never be on his level
Ice cube is just as lyrical as biggie...

Talk that talk Big Gipp. You, yourself and the WHOLE Dungeon Family are LENGENDS in your own right, let's not forget that. Y'all are one of the few pioneers for putting ATL on the map.
Wtf does acting, the Big 3, etc have to do with RAPPING smh. GIPP talks cuz he got lips. Biggie sold more than Cube's while career in those 2 albums. Biggie had a $62million deal/check from Sony when he passed.
Biggie sales went up after he passed unfortunately
Take Em to School!!! Cube was hittin in 88 with “Underground”music that was NOT Played on Radio!!!! Cube is who made me like Rap/Hip Hop…storytelling & talking about what seemed like an Unreal Other World to me!!! “Drive by” in Missouri…I didn’t know what a drive by was…Cube is a Goat who paved a Way for Even Tupac my all time favorite ❤️ ♥️
Salute to #BigGipp for always Repping The Real. As a born and raised New Yorker and Hip Hop lover. I also know #IceCube was a better rapper and lyricists than Biggie. I like Biggie music too, but as 👑 Gipp just said. It took Biggie first album a minute to pop. Why is that? 🤔🤔🤔
What's a minute? A few months? He went platiuin in a year
Better lyricist u sound foolish
Ready To Die had shipped 2 million copies and was Double Platinum by 1995, a year after the album came out. It didn’t take a minute to pop. Amerikkka went platinum as well but it didn’t sell like Ready to Die. And I love Cube. I love his music, lyrics and movies, but we not gonna sit here and act like, if BIG and Cube were rhyming back and forth that BIG ultimately wouldn’t win. Shoutout to Cube and RIP BIG
He definitely wasn't a better lyricist than biggie ur definitely out ya mind opinions can be wrong and this is an example of a wrong opinion
Im a firm believer in quality over quantity if Biggie wasn't killed who knows what he could have accomplished
Big dropped one classic album and he was dead when it came out 🤷🏾♂️
Because of the quantity and quality Cube trumps BIG

Skill level as far as lyricism has nothing to do with how long you lived or how many projects you have it's a gift to be able to pen masterpieces. Biggie was the GOAT and still is and I love Cube as well.
You couldn’t have said it better.. Cube has the west coast impact. But his rapping doesn’t even come close to Biggie.

GIPP is right ,Cubes chronology is too deep. Cube has classics from the late 80s. GANGSTA GANGSTA, BOYZ IN THE HOOD, as well as his classic solo shit.
Im a fan of both Cube and Biggie. But for the short time Big was here he did alot. He wrote for Puff, Lil Kim, Lil Cease and the whole Junior Mafia. Let alone even having to write his own lyrics. And most Big music came off the dome. Big was special bit yes his legacy was short lived.
he still aint better love
Ice Cube wrote for Eazy E NWA Dr Dre Yo Yo all as a teenager so what you saying?
The question on Drink Champs was for Yayo to decide which rapper would he pick, in other words, between the two choices, which rapper was more influential to HIM(Yayo)…! Not me, not you, and not Big Lipp. Yayo just gave an opinion. I’m an Ice Cube fan, not an NWA fan, and I don’t think of Cube being doper than Biggie, but Cube had very little lyrical competition on the west coast from 1989-1991. By ‘94, Biggie had comp that killed ish on both coasts. End of story
Amen!
Facts
Keep it real let's go by category.
flow -big
Metaphors and similes - big
multi rhymes - big
Storytelling - cube
Guest versus/features- big
Classic albums- tie
classic songs- big
Impact- tie
Just my opinion, I might be missing a few categories.
The question on Drink Champs was which do you take for Storytelling…
@@genohall2235 They didn't go into depth with it but they kind of touched on other things too. Yayo said something to the effect of "you think he got better lyrics than biggie".
I’m not a Big Fan of Either honestly, but I do agree that Cube’s Storytelling is better, and his Impact is Much Greater.
I Also Know that Biggie’s Flow and Lyricism was Better. But he can’t be ranked above Cube..
I’m a Mobb Deep & Eminem, Rakim, Nas guy so I don’t have any stake in this game. I Always include LL even though I’m not a huge fan of his either.
Biggie stories hit harder doesn't matter how many albums. we're talking about story telling in music not movies

Life After Death went 💎 name a 💎 Cube album. I'll wait...
The question to Tony Yayo was “Who was the best story teller?” Not, the best rapper. I’m from Biggie’s neighborhood and I was a fan of Ice Cube and Biggie.
Biggie 2 Albums are classic.....hard to make 1 classic yet alone 2
Life after death seems more like a puffy album. He picked all the beats and features and just had biggie put verses on them songs for majority of that album.
Cube got like 4 classics.
Cube has way more
Cube got at least three with his signature on it
Before you say shit like that. Know what your talking about you need to check Cubes catalog
Cube first 10 years in hip hop was hall of fame worthy!
The east was dead BIG saved a whole coast .. Respect to Cube the west is his.. Lyrically no one is above BIG 🎯

Salute to Gipp and everything he said 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾. Ice Cube > Biggie all time
Cube catolog and impact from 88-93 is hard to compete with
From group albums, solo albums to writing material for other artists with that being said big also had a incredible run from 94-97 not just two solo albums but countless remixes and features...also have to be mindful big wrote for junior mafia album in 95, lil kim album in 96 and contributed to diddy album in 97...cube certainly was more conscious and political rapper
But i would give big slight edge over cube when it comes to storytelling thou cube was great in that dept also!!!
Cube’s stories were way more believable
Absolutely NOT! Normally I agree with what Big Gipp said in his 'Art' interviews....BUT not this time. Cube can live to 100 & put out 50 albums yet only 1 of them truly matter/mattered. Cube is a great rapper BUT BIG with his small catalog is still a better and more influential rapper. Sorry NOT SORRY. Just like Cube deserves his respect we're not gonna act like BIG didn't do a gang of features outside of releasing 2 albums one of which was a DOUBLE album in such a brief window. Nothing Cube has done musically tops Life After Death.
