Okay guys, once you see a p2096, that means the post catalyst is lean. So if that is not accompanied by a p0171 or a p0174, that implies that the first O2 sensor is getting good voltage switching okay. Right away that tells you that the leak is already between the first O2 sensor and the second O2 sensor in the exhaust. First test would be to run a scan to look at the voltages switching on the O2 sensors, or hook a multimeter up and look at the pre and the post O2 sensor voltage switching to rule out anything else, but most of the time this is correct. So do yourself a favor and just put some air in the back of the exhaust pipe with a leaf blower or air conpressor or shop vac, and spray some soapy water on the exhaust pipes and watch for bubbles in between the first O2 sensor up-to-the-second O2 sensor and get something to seal the exhaust up once tou see the leak, its that simple. If your first O2 sensor is switching in the voltage is good and it's a good sensor reading properly, there's no need to look anywhere Upstream of that first O2 sensor into the engine bay.
Nonsense. If there was a pre muffler leak the car would sound insanely loud even if the leak was the size of a pin. Plus I’d smell fumes most likely.
There’s plenty of causes for too lean.
Closed loop but fault with at least one 02 sensor. Well that tells me I need to check or change a sensor.
So on a e46 when the cat is built into the manifold how could it leak between pre and post sensors theres no wat its built in together!
Wow, Mr Tim and Ms Silvia, this engine bay is by far the cleanest I've seen you both work on!
Can't recall any other clean bay.
Great work anyways!
This was incredibly helpful
Thanks!
Excellent video and explanation. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Great explanation.. Thanks for posting
You're welcome!
I have the same code but I have negative ltft. -13 % still vacuum leak??
"morphine pump" very funny!
LOL
Would this possibly be the same problem with a 2012 Subaru outback? Same problem as in a vacuum leak? Or could it be a bad downstream O2 sensor?
Yes, it can be a downstream O2 sensor
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos thanks for the reply! My boss gets p2096 once in a while, sometimes once a week. He's asked me to clear the codes a few times (BlueDriver obd2 scanner, I love it), and told me that he's had mechanics look at it with different stories from each on what it could be. Now, he is in no way mechanically inclined, so the mechanics could have given him the common possibilities of what it could be and he not realize it. Anyhow, I don't know if he's had the smoke test done or not (and I wish I could afford the machines, lol). He would like for me to replace the O2 sensor, which is no problem since it's easy to get to. Is there a way to test the o2 sensor, other than for continuity?
@@danelmassey9535 did you figure out the problem? I have the same intermittent problem on my 2011 Impreza
06 Bmw 525i on the. Diokno k it reads 2096 what dose that mea
So where did the tube go that needs to get plugged in on your diaphragm
That was just a vent for the diaphragm. I thought there was something there as well.
I hose front the air intake connects to the pcv valve is a heat regulator
So replacing the entire Valve cover gasket kit with ignition coils and spark plugs will do the job?? total of $1279.99 dealer parts, labor 250$
Before ANYTHING, check the rear O2 sensor
No u can just add the hose the goes there is a hose the comes from the air intake boot the connects to the pcv valve is a heat regulator for an u start ur car..the hose cost like 10 bucks save ur self thousands
I have 09 528j and same code , but no smoke machine!
Look for a local shop that can perform a smoke test
@Astral Auto Repairs
I so glad i found you channel you got a new subscriber,
I have 2007 e60 525i n52 engine,
And that the code i have for months, p0298 and they says if i change the coils will fix it, but I don't think
Now 3 months after I have all these code, p0298 post catalyst fuel trim system too kean bank 2
P2272 o2 sensor signal stuck lean bank 2
P0597 thermostat heater control circuit open
And YES AGAIN P02098 ( 2 times, why )
I so lost please what to do the only thing i have is a bad vibration on idle only at 6500rpm, when warn up
On reverse and drive with brake on
Stop sign , traffic light,
Is piss me off i just fixed p0444 and 3 days after that code and jow 2 more code
I gonna explode, please help me , what to do, mechanic says is the coils and they charge 150 plus parts 200, or the VANOS , 300$ parts and 100 labor, and if not he says we keep replace the o2 sensors (4) and pvc valve , is better to buy a Toyota corolla for less money,
The car has 153000 miles
Please any help I will do what you told me to do, thank you in advance
Sounds like you have a bad O2 sensor, BUT that is NOT causing the rough idle. Do a compression check on all cylinders.
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos ok I will do a compression test of the 6 cylinders and upload here, so you can tell me what do you think, and since the code already tell me o2 sensor 2 bank 2 i hope are videos showing how, thank you so much for your time and help
You definitely have good hearing Timmy!👂😁
Check that out, is that an EAR emoji, LOL, COOL!!!!
hello friend I got several codes but I would like to know the code P2096 of a jaguar x type v6 I would be very grateful if you can help me you are a super mechanic my respects may God continue to bless you for sharing your wisdom in my marble thanks
I have 1 and it’s pending, what should I do, what could cause this
Valve cover (in this case) or an O2 sensor.
Would this couse my o2 sensor code to come on ass well
Yes
Hey Tim. Where did you get those caps?
They came with the smoke machine.
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos Dang it!
LOL
It says part one. Part 2?
How about P2098? What would that indicate? Thanks.
Lean condition on Bank 2
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos Would this be caused in a big vacuum leak on a e53 2001? I have a P2098, can hear a very loud Whistling while cruising or even passing 2000-2500 rpm. I suspect a vaccuum leak, have replaced all O2’s, only 65,000 miles.
@@Neo-ih2fh Yes!
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos where should i look? Any ideas?
Would a bubble gum plug seals the deal.
How about bank 1 stft negative 100 and bank 2 rich condition precat my bmw code p1093 bmw
Check the O2
Help Me! I have had the p2098 (Bank 2, post cat too lean) for a while now -- maybe a year.
-I have replaced both bank 2 o2 sensors with OEM sensors.
-I had a smoke test performed and found a vacuum leak in the same place as the one in the video here and I replaced that diaphragm and that leak is now sealed. I cannot find any other air leaks with a smoke test.
-I replaced the air filter and made sure I connected everything back tight.
-cleaned the MAF with MAF spray.
-I just checked the back pressure from the 02 pre-cat port and pressure remained at .5 PSI despite whatever RPM I raised it to.
-Fuel pressure is right on point at 73psi
I have a few sets of fuel trim data that do not make sense to me. If the system is lean, then the trim should be positive, right? All my data sets show bank two LT and ST fuel trims to be negative: here are two sets of data:
Fuel Trim Bank 1 Short Term = 1.562 %
Fuel Trim Bank 1 Long Term = -8.594 %
Fuel Trim Bank 2 Short Term = -0.781 %
Fuel Trim Bank 2 Long Term = -0.781 %
Fuel Trim Bank 1 Short Term = 1.562 %
Fuel Trim Bank 1 Long Term = -8.594 %
Fuel Trim Bank 2 Short Term = -1.562 %
Fuel Trim Bank 2 Long Term = -0.781 %
ALSO, the bank 2 numbers do not look bad to me! Bank 1 seems to have larger trim values. Anything advice would be thoroughly appreciated!
We noticed you have not checked for ANY exhaust leaks, especially the gasket.
Too early! Lol
LOL!
are you recycling videos again?
Just had to make a few adjustments on the old one. 😁
what you talking about silly lol
