From the information expressed to us via the MSQ it seems to me that dynamis is likely not only responsible for us being able to pull off limit breaks but indeed for us to push beyond our limits in the first place. I've mentioned this before but the entire Omega raid series was centered around Omega being frustrated that he couldn't properly quantify our power. Even with all of its advanced sensors and knowledge obtained over the millennia it was continually surprised that we defeated enemies that were far stronger than us. Furthermore, when it tried to directly see if we could instantly do the impossible it was a failure resulting in Midgardsormr having to step in to save our lives. Clearly, we have to work ourselves up to defeating these powerful foes, just like how we slowly accumulate limit gauge over time. Throughout a fight, our emotions rise and rise until they eventually allow us to transcend the limits of our aetherial existence if only briefly. Omega, by comparison, was seemingly never able to tap into this power source as it seemed utterly devoid of emotions which was likely a product of the Omicrons ridding themselves of their flesh-based existence and converting their minds into data.

Omega, and by association the Omicron in general, knew nothing about dynamis either. The Ea likewise seemed completely unaware of its existence. Either of those races theoretically would have done everything possible to learn all they could about it for their purposes otherwise.

Also worth noting, that while they are dealing with only a working theory, Nidhanna does give an example of being in combat and surpassing your physical limits as being a potential manifestation of Akasha.
Despite the Endsinger's quote, Nidhannas example, and the Omega questline alluding to something else making you more powerful than they expect (which ends up being essentially because you care for others and have feelings, oh wait...) That Synodic dismisses the idea outright, and doesn't even seem to give it a thought. Quite frankly it feels the MSQ is almost going out of it's way to plant that idea without explicitly saying it.

Unfortunately that seems to not be the case. As we've seen from Elidibus he's able to use Limit Breaks with little to no effort. Meaning that Limit Breaks are fundamentally aether based since he's an unsundered, his aether would drown out any and all dynamis.

@@nerobiblios4086 But wasn't he using the hero's "summoned" beyond the rift *conviction* (which is driven by a very strong emotion) to fight evil to empower himself (which might explain the golden glow of those heros when they appear) making him a summon that was made through dynamis MORE than aether given when he separated from Zodiark he was a FRAGMENT of his former self and comprised of far less aether.
On his own he SHOULDN'T be able to use dynamis but he was using emotions of countless others that overpowered the aether he's comprised of to manifest.
summoning is driven through prayer via emotions (like desperation)
So isn't it possible that you can create a primal out of dynamis??

Something that I missed but want to point out is that jobs like Dark Knight are visibly spending and consuming Aether to power their Spells/Abilities. If they run out of Aether, they run out of Dark Magic since the Abyss is their own personal pool of aether ignited. However, what we should be considering is how Dynamis might be aiding in helping shape their dark aether into something more potent, like an amplifier or focusing lens.

To break the rule (of MSQ sourcing).
Something interesting: Urianger speculated that faith and prayer may have some ties to dynamis in the MSQ.
There’s an Aether current side quest in Labyrinthos (Gleaner’s Wish) where a Sharlayan operator gives a lantern crystal to a Viera gleaner. He asks you to pray, giving hope and good wish to the bearer of the lantern.
The researcher comments on his recent discovery of Thavnair’s theory of akasha and wonders if their custom of praying over these lanterns might be tied to it. The Ancients seem to have an atheistic society, which would make sense being such dense aetherial beings, faith is useless for them as it would have no bearing on them, since they have scarcely any dynamis to be affected by it.
In the MSQ, it is faith that is used to help control one’s dynamis by providing a centered hope in (Final Days) Thavnair. My theory is that similarly to aether having different elements of two polarities. I think dynamis/akasha also has different elements (such as hope, joy, sadness), with positive and negative polarities. The WoL showed that there can be sadness, but it doesn’t destroy. It helps connect and ground a person. Then there is the sorrow and despair of the Endsinger which causes destruction.
So…my speculation is that the Alliance raids will probably give some more information on the relationship between faith and dynamis. Probably indirectly, as the word dynamis is a recent (re)discovery.
What does this mean? Not much, but hopefully we will find out more come future patches.

In second astral era they begin to pray for stop the calamity that's is the beginning of magic but I think it's about dynamis because they didn't know about magic too much but they learned by not casting at all.
I guess dynamis is a parallel of aether anyway. Aether is control by aether of user and knowledge to manipulate but dynamis is a power of feeling that unstable up to feeling of the user but yet powerful one . Speaking of parallel I always thinking about Ultima I didn't learned about it too much cause what is a parallel magic anyway

What you said about the Dancer is also concreted by the fact that we fight a Kakodaemon, a manifestation of Foul emotions and Dynamis in both the endsinger fight and the final job quest for dancer. Seeing as dancer isn't a caster or isn't said to interact with aether (Yes I know all jobs interact with it, but in different ways and intensity mind you, focusing on how dancer would be lower aetherically active), maybe the invigoration that dancers do influences the dynamis in a positive way, purging the dark transformative emotions it can have. Of course, we would need more evidence on Dancers using Dynamis so I wouldn't be so bold as to just state it. But it is curious.

the main uses of aether for both dancer and bard are either A, weapon control (those arrows and flying discs sure as shit aint jsut skill) and B, better transmission of their dancing/singing. the dynamis comes in by the effects it has on you.

I want to add in terms of how the final days came to be. When in Mare Lamentorum and after beating Zodiark the watcher explains that when the final days started happening during the ancient times the location and time of where the final days started coincided with the weakening/decay (as to why this happened no one knows it could be a natural process or phase) of the celestial currents of ather around eytheris. Because this "Barrier" or layer of ather was gone there was nothing to block the dynamis from meteon from entering eytheris proper. And zodiark was summoned to basically reinforce or sustain the celestial current. And since we defeated zodiark there was nothing to maintain the celestial current thus restarting the final days. (Similar to how the earths magnetic field protects the earth from cosmic radiation)

    • @Leakonz
      @Leakonz 2 роки тому +5

Yeah if I remember correctly the celestial aether started to stagnated, thats why Zodiark is created of darkness, because darkness creates motion of aether the opposite of light which is stasis, so basically Zodiark just sustains the flow of celestial aether creating a protective barrier around etherys.

Considering that Dynamis is related to emotion, I wonder if it has a relation to the Aramitama and Nigimitama concept that was introduced in the Four Lords quest back in Stormblood? The Auspices of Stormblood was said to build up Aramitama as they grow in age and power through the passage of time, which is a violent and active aspected emotional energy that can corrupt and transform them if it is not balanced by Nigimitama, a calm and passive aspected emotional energy. This is similar to the concept of Astral and Umbral aspect of Aether. Perhaps Aramitama and Nigimitama could refer to observable effects of aspected Dynamis.
Moreover, Auspices are known to transform between animal and humanoid forms much like Meteon and Terminus beasts, and much like the concept of Limit Break, transcend the natural cycle of rebirth by living beyond their normal lifespans and transcend the limitations of being originally mundane animals with mundane levels of aether.
If all that I am theorizing is true, then perhaps Auspices could be considered a kind of Entelechies as well, that unlike Meteon, who is crafted, are naturally occurring.

Every religious has one, but not everyone understand what it means, which ends up no further research ever concluded and passed down. Aether by itself is a constant flow of energy. Dynamis isn’t, which makes it easier to forget or disprove by something that more easier to understand.

The point you make with Ran'jit makes a point that Dynamis has always been under the surface but not named.
Since Shadowbringers we've encountered a number of beings that were aetherically to us as we are to Ran'jit. If we should have mopped the floor with Ran'jit because of our aetheric density, then should not Hades, Elidibus, Hermes, Venat, Erichthonius, and Hesperos done much the same to us? There's absolutely no way we should have been able to take on Ancients directly.
    And yet we can.
Dynamis is the force that enables us to transcend limits. It's the force that Omega (who is aetherically similar to an Ancient in this context) encounters and finds themself unable to overcome or explain.
People have misinterpreted the scene where we're being told about akasa as some asspull. It's not. She's telling us there's something that is confused with aether (which limit breaks and our power levels have been) and that no one knows how to directly manipulate (which doesn't imply it's never been used, when taken in context with it not being understood.) Take the pair together and you can conclude what she's really saying (narratively) is that dynamis/akasa has always been there, and that many things we thought were aether (such as the limit break) were akasa. And the story has always implied there's something inexplicable about us and people that allows them to rise to challenges and strife that they otherwise should not.

I hypothesize that Dynamis acts with Aether in the same way that the blue lantern rings interact with green lanterns in the DC universe. They're not particularly strong own, but when coupled with their much stronger companion, they *supercharge* it and push it past any normal limits, hence limit breaks using Dynamis according to the Endsinger. And since we've been rejoined once more than anyone else, and yet we can use Dynamis with our LBs, it may be that Dynamis multiplies the effects of Aether, but too much Aether makes it harder to interact with it. Like, more Aether means a greater barrier between the person and Dynamis, but if the person can breach that barrier, then the Dynamis has WAY more effect. I.E. if an Ancient were *unfathomably* emotional and could somehow use Dynamis, they'd be completely unstoppable

Your statement of the other shards being more "attuned" than the Source's denizens...It is highly speculative that the "main energy source" on how the Empty at the First would be reclaimed would be Dynamis. given how emotionally charged the events of the Eden arc was (love between two ancients, reconciliation of said ancients and moving on, forging new relationships as well), the sudden growth of plant life, nature slowly reclaiming Eden, as the entwined tree surrounding it after finishing the story arc, it would seem Dynamis is pushing the aetheric balance a bit strongly to project effects such as those, just like on your last statement of augmenting both energies to produce a much greater effect.

Also, my favorite part about the discussion of Akasa / Dynamis is when Nidhana states that, in legend and myth, it was 'torn from the heavens'. From my point of view, it sort of implies that the song 'Torn From The Heavens' is almost an anthem to the power of Dynamis. The heroic, rising notes retroactively symbolizing the rising of Dynamis in the Warrior of Light, cresting and seething with their desire defend Etheirys, as well as the instrument of shattering their limits.

There are a couple of in-game mechanics that can be explained a bit further if you take the existence of Dynamis, or even in-game occurances.
First is our ability to "Push the limit", our buff where the Warrior of Light is taking things past the normal capabilities of physics. This only happens in very important, emotionally laden fights. Our will, our need to succeed harnesses Dynamis to give us an extra boost. As you said, we are powerhouses of Aether of ourselves.
The Echo buff may be a second. While we're taught that the Echo is a thing that we've unlocked from being sundered Ancients ourselves, the buff we get might be traceable back to Dynamis. The 'vision' we get from the battle gone wrong only serves to emotionally charge us into needing to try harder.
It is important to note that the Echo itself is not Dynamis. We've been told that this is an ability the people of Ancient Etheirys could call on. I feel that everyone who actually HAS the Echo is a sundered soul of an Ancient. While others who live around us may be sundered but might have been part of that new life that flourished in the time after Zodiark saved the world. The shade of Hythlodaeus says as much in Amaurot; One third gave their lives to summon Him, about half of the survivors again to restore the elements and purify the lands so that New Life might be born. And of that new life they would sactrifice to get their own back. That stands to conclude that a lot of new beings with souls were alive at the time that Hydaelyn sundered the place. Despite the big emotional scene showing it happening on the Final Day. I believe that to just be narrative compression of events.
Our Limit Break has been confirmed to BE Dynamis manipulation by Meteion herself. In fact it makes sense considering that everyone in the party cheers you on when you use it, suggesting there is more of a "WE CAN DO THIS!" feeling behind it than outright Aether manipulation. The fact that it charges slowly but steadily but gets quick boosts when someone survives a deadly attack or a healer cures a ton of health on someone who went sub 10% would also suggest an emotional origin. (listen for a tiny little swoosh sound whenever someone does that and note that the lb bar grew quite a bit )
And the last thing I can recall at this point are the NPCs who can go toe-to-toe with the Warrior of Light and sometimes even warrant us to use our breaking the limits... Almost all of them are fighting us for a belief they hold personally very VERY dear. You mentioned Ran'Jit; He fights us in name of the faith he has placed in Vauthry, but ALSO the desperate desire to not let yet another Minfillia die a needless death. Believe it or not, he DOES care about her. And since he's willing to die for that belief, he is able to harness more than simply Aether to his side. And almost everyone else who suddenly appear as powerful as the person who has killed pretty much the entire Pantheon of gods of everyone around them are almost always fighting us from a similar position of deep and emotional conviction.

Dynamis is extremely similar to The Warp from Warhammer 40k. The Warp being, in super simple terms, a dimension or veil on top of our own, filled with a raw energy that reacts to emotion and can be channeled by skilled individuals to wield what you would call magic or supernatural powers. But it can also corrupt living beings too. Or living beings can corrupt "it" in certain cases thru their strong emotions, giving birth to abominations in the Warp. Look into it, I bet that's where they took some inspiration from.

Spoilers and random thoughts from me. Thanks for the video!
Back in FF6, Limit Breaks weren't actually a thing and instead characters had the possibility of performing a unique desperation attack if they were left at low HP. The way I see Limit Breaks is that they are used when we are at our most desperate (in terms of Healer and Tank LBs) or most exhilarated (in terms of DPS LBs).
Emotions do run high in combat situations. "I have to win because everyone is counting on me!", "I can't give up yet! What will happen to the world if I fail?" These thoughts and desperate feelings probably shaped our will into the wall that protected us from The Endsinger's attack. The Endsigner is surprised because she did not know we could manipulate Dynamis to block her oblivion wave attack even in such a crude fashion. Heck, I doubt we even knew that ourselves and just considered the LB as something that our Warriors of Light could inherently do. Additionally, the Scions praying for our victory granted us a bonus shield that blocked her second wave when we ourselves were spent. This gives credence to my personal theory on why Thordan was so terrified at the end of our battle against him in Heavensward. He couldn't see Dynamis, but he saw us stand up again and again after he threw everything he had against us and yet we still came after him and took everything he threw at us on the chin.
The way Dynamis is structured in game reminds me of one of the bigger mysteries in physics. Why is Gravity, one of the four fundamental forces, so weak in comparison to Electromagnetism? Gravity has infinite range, exists everywhere as a consequence of distortions of space-time. Similarly to Aether, much of our real world technology is based around electricity. Imagine what a society that has access to gravity-based technology could do instead and it is an interesting parallel to dynamis.
There is a short story by Harry Turtledove "The Road Not Taken" where such an alien society which has gravity-based tech but otherwise has weaponry from the Age of Sail attempts to conquer modern day Earth and pretty much immediately loses; however, they unlock this branch of technology for humanity. The aliens realize this and say "What have we done?!" Turtledove has written many other alternative history works of a similar nature and it goes to show that just because one species has access to one technology branch does not inherently make it immediately superior to all others. Similarly tying this random aside back to FF14, even if one of the shards has direct access to Dynamis, does not immediately make it more powerful than our Aether wielding Warriors of Light, it might level the playing field or it may not depending on how it is used; although IMO, Ranj'it was just a really amazing technical fighter and not in anyway wielding Dynamis against us.

    • @etowesho
      @etowesho 2 роки тому

About Ranjit, a part of me has a feeling that when rejoinings happen they affect the shards too as the source is just that, the source. I don’t think the remaining shards have 1/14th of their aether, but they aren’t quite 7x rejoined either. Especially since they can use magic and the source couldn’t until the 1st rejoining. Can’t explain what’s going, but I don’t think it’s simple maths. So mebe Ranjit is just a bit stronger than others on the first and has a bit more aether than usual making him a little closer to the WoL? I dunno. All this new info is making my head spin😆

    • @typhir5911
      @typhir5911 2 роки тому +2

@@etowesho It is a possibility. However, since the Rejoinings were always of Ascian design, I doubt that they would ever rejoin a shard to another shard. Their goal was always to rejoin all the shards to the Source. Also, aether is really only one part of the equation. It doesn't account for 100% of ones combat prowess in the physical space as much as it does for one's ability to exert aetheric energy. Ranj'it, despite his age, was definitely a technical fighter. He studied us before he took us and all the other Scions present down simultaneously. He even said he "had our measure!" That speaks tremendously to his personal skill in combat arts.
Also, I don't want to think that we are innately superior to people on the other shards. We merely have more aether than they do having been through rejoinings, that doesn't necessarily mean that they cannot defeat us in combat and we would be dismissively discounting their own training and abilities that they bring to the table. I would say that Ryne, despite being a native on the First is an equal in combat skill to any of the rogues in the rogue's guild on the Source, possibly superior since she was trained by Thancred and the other Scions.

Ghostbusters 2 has a parallel way of understanding how emotions influence physical objects.
Slime in the Ghostbusters universe undergoes a pH change while under the influence of different emotions.
Hostile and depressive emotions causes the pH of the slime to become more caustic as hydroxide (-OH) in the substance increases. The visible colors of the negatively charged slime becomes dark pink to black.
Coming into physical contact with negatively charged slime causes people become more hostile and coming into contact with black slime was said to be corrosive to the soul.
Nurturing and more hopeful emotions causes the pH of the slime becomes more acidic as the main body of the substance retains more Hydrogen (H+). The color of the more positively charged slime becomes light pink/white to green.
Being covered in positively charged slime was observed to cause general euphoria.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned before but there is a bit of a fan/ hinted theory about dynamis that I think warrants further insight on however this does contain some spoilers to the storm blood raids so spoilers for those who haven’t played it yet:
During one of the msq cutscenes one of the dialogue options I noticed (and the one I picked) was a comment on how our characters are able to break their limits from time to time to perform amazing feats that defy explaination. Though emet dismisses it as desperation, it is theorized that instead this is due to the character unknowingly using dynamis energy to temporarily break their limits. The support for this theory comes from both interactions with the endsinger who believes that you used dynamis to survive her first apocalypse attack (the tank limit break required during that part of the fight) and omega, who is trying to understand how a being like the wol and others beat impossible odds. From what has been said omega was trying to understand how your emotional state was what was triggering extreme feats of strength. This according to game theories state that what omega was trying to measure and couldn’t understand was in fact dynamis. I believe that the Theory that the limit break ability is from the wol using dynamis does warrant some further investigation. Hopefully this theory turns out to be fun to investigate as well since it seems like dynamis as a whole is fun to theory craft on

Oooh. Nice video. Makes me want to think of Dynamis Dice lost action in the Resistance quest series. While it mentions placing faith to Nymeia and roll for the best case scenario (e.g. Healer LB3 or some buffs), we still get bad rolls sometimes (uncleansable Doom, etc.).
Potentially dynamis in action as all sorts of emotions are there in the Southern Front and Zadnor - both optimistic and otherwise, which may influence the "rolls", with the Gambler Essence like a flagon of "let me feel good vibes" to mitigate the negative emotions already in the area and skew the rolls into more positive ones?
Just some thoughts though which may or may not be useful in the search for literature on dynamis. Also, it's coincidentally called the Dynamis Dice, meaning it was a battle action that was used previously (its usage frequency could only be theorised) before it was Lost.

It would be like computer code telling a program what it needs done, and you input in what you want it to do. So my theory just puts dynamis as like an interpreter. now I still can't figure out why when it goes out of control that it has the influence to change people into monsters. maybe it's just telling the aether to completely rewrite the physical form of an induvial by sacrificing the soul. Still working on that one lol.

Like some kind of spark to launch the whole process.
I think it's a super interesting concept but I wish it was hinted at earlier (maybe in Shadowbringers or Stormblood?). It feels a bit weird because it's not bad but it does lack a strong connection with the world of XIV.
That being said I think the writers could use that and maybe have some parts of the patches/raids/trials/etc... dedicated to show research or attempts of explaining Dynamis and linking it to past events.
I'll hold my opinion on it until then or until we get another Encyclopedia

A couple of things that I think you missed: Meteion also mentions that the star is saturated with aether, there was also a greater amount compared to dynamis. We also know that dynamis started to effect area of the star where the celestial aether started to weaken which seems to happen naturally, my guess would be that Meteion's song couldn't penetrate that layer or aether so Zodiark reinforce the aether to prevent the song from reaching the star.
Now I have a question! Correct me if I'm wrong, but souls are made of pure aether, so is it possible to have a soul made from pure dynamis? If so it would need to form in a place where there is no aether, and that would be the thirteenth shard since all the aether there got destroyed. Just some food for thought.

The real life blend of science and magic in endwalker was fascinating.
Just like how ripples(waves) in a lake can't made/seen without water (a medium).
Before Einsteins time, alchmist/scientists knew that light was also a wave (but not yet also a particle of energy). So they believed light must also have some form of medium to travel through.
Just like how fish can't see the water they swim in, we also must be in a medium we can't see the theory was called Luminiferous Aether.
It was believed this aether medium zone was started or expanded by the big bang and all Matter that we can interact with exists in this medium. Everything outside of it that we still don't know much about and can't interact with is dark matter/dark energy. Energy/heat is nothing but particles bouncing around in a condescend zone.
There is a theory that dark energy is responsible for causing the expansion of the universe which meteion claims do be doing as endsinger. She wants to do this to speed up the heat death of the universe, because the true universe is nothing but a cold void. Aether is the medium/ bubble that protects us from the cold void and keeps the energy/life-force in a condescend zone. Let's say a star acts as a gravity well/reserve for aether thus over time creating a dense area of aether. so people are reincarnated on their star in the form of matter/condescend aether. But it's even stated that if a star is destroyed they can be reincarnated in another star, because of the Aether medium.
Since there is a 2:1 ratio Meteion power over dynamis can washout/ erase a person's Aether when it gets too sparse. like dirt and water. Thus ending their reincarnation cycle in the life force

See, “Dynamis” is also something from FF11 and I assumed you’d taken a jaunt into Vana’diel so I figured a trip down memory road might be cool.
I played that game years ago, quitting a few months after Abyssea launched. Honestly I don’t remember much about the lore videos exactly, but the Dynamis I knew was maps of the starter cities and Jeuno but filled with insanely tough versions of the beast tribes that fought the civilisations in the real world. They generally required full 18 person teams under a very skilled leader to beat. The goal was to reach a point on the map and click on the ground. Mobs also dropped the second set of artifact armour for each job.
I seriously don’t remember if the Vana’diel version of Dynamis was a dream realm or an alternative reality where the beast tribes won. Might have to look it up.
In any case the Dynamis of FF14 is absolutely not for me just set, so I paused at about 30 seconds in and now I must take my leave.

    Warning for spoilers:
The whole idea of Limit Breaks being aether refined by dynamis might hold even more water as we see in Seat of Sacrifice - Elidibus, an unsundered being using immense amounts of aether that even we cannot hope to wield, calls upon assistance from souls of other worlds, either the Source or its reflections. If the theory that LB = dynamis-augmented aether is correct, Elidibus shouldn’t be able to Limit Break at all; yet not only could he, he was capable of attaining a level of Limit Break thought to be completely impossible.
It should also be noted that while not cited by name, dynamis may very well have been established as early as Stormblood, as Omega was trying to figure out why its calculations kept being thrown off by us, and the only thing it could peg was that emotional energy that allowed us to surpass our limits in times of extreme duress - which could have very well been it trying to explain dynamis without having a word for it. This seems to hold, given the behavior of various other Omicrons we meet during and after Endwalker.

    2 questions.
1.-How does the "sundering" work in relation to the rest of the universe? say, if someone from the first and the source went to the moon would they be able to meet there? Or does each world have their own moon? Or are there actually 14 different universes? IIRC, they don't explain if that is on a timeline/universal level.
2.-Speaking of timelines, what happens with the whole Meteion deal in the "Black Rose" timeline? Sure they say the WoL died there, but it's odd since the current present we live in relies on two separate time travel instances, the exharch going back in time to a different shard and then the WoL going to Elpis. If the WoL said everything that happened to Venat, does that mean that she had to make sure the black rose events happened and then just take a gamble and hope that G'raha would succeed and play his part? If anything the Hydaelin from that timeline will not know if her plan succeeded, I wonder if in the future we will go there in some way and try to fix it or something.

I believe strongly the twelve are entelechy. Hermes states "Dynamis is an energy put in motion by feelings. Feelings for which there must first exist a source. A source to which the victims must be attuned-one that harbors the selfsame negative emotions. Elsewise it could not be the agent of such extreme change."
The twelve origin stories are so heavily tied to emotions and relationships which act as the fuel for their powers. Powers that did not seem to line up with the limits and uses Aether if you were to take the tales literally, but with Dynamis seem much more plausible. Nymeia creating a lake by crying for example, so ridiculous even in the 14 universe it seems like a folktale. They embody concepts like love, wisdom and Fury rather then just definitive elements. Their use of Dynamis or being entelechy would explain why we cannot see them even though they did/do exist. Meteion would have escaped completely on Elpis had we ( a being capable of interacting with dynamis) not been there showing just how invisible entelechy can be.
The fact the newest raid tier will be based on the twelve, and Emet with full memories directly commented on us not knowing what they "Truly are" ties in so well with them being entelechy. A presence that has been in the game since 1.0 and referenced constantly but never directly interacted with. That is, until now with full knowledge of the concept of Dynamis to properly locate them.

This is where I start sharing and comparing notes:
So far, the six elements has two "status": umbral and astral, making them "twelve". If you add the "light" and "darkness" (which I consider wrong, but we'll get there), you have the magic number: fourteen. In one of your, ahem, studies, you tell us that living beings are composed of body, soul and mind. Three, that might why not have their oposites, such as the elements, and then again two "status", umbral and astral, and we're both dying and being "reformed", "recycled". When dead, one's aether is turning into something else.
Add this to a draconic timelessness perspective, and one, from this, can conclude (and that might need a lot of suspension of disbelief, but bear with me, the more you think the more it makes sense):
    1- All things are tridimentional.
2- All things have an opposite.
3- All things have a state of vibration (movement) and stasis.
And, last but not least: as it is below so it is above.
All I suggest is as you try to overlap the many different "circles" that we find throughout the star's history.
"What does all this blabering has to do with Dynamis", one would rightfully ask.
I **SUGGEST** that Dynamis isn't the MATTER(body) nor the SOUL(aether), but the MIND. The silent administrator that decide what deserves our attention or not, the both EMOTIONAL(astral) or RATIONAL(umbral) judge that moves all things, so inherently attached to them that one could leave them unoticed. Where we keep looking for something to interact with, we should observe thing's *direction*, and call it Dynamis.
As you stablished yourself, thicker the aether, the least it's influenced by Dynamis -- the slower it moves.

So I have a bit of a dissenting theory as to how aether and dynamis function and interact. To draw some parallels to how energy works in real life physics energy itself is a bit of an abstract concept: we have usable forms of energy that are easier to manipulate and observe such as heat, electricity, and motion. These different forms of energy can with some work be intercompatible and changed into one another but at the end of the day it's still energy. I believe that Aether and dynamis share a similar relationship: they are two aspects of one concept, and the use of one elicits reactions from the other.
That is to say it is not necessarily that more aetherically dense beings like the ancients had complete inability to affect dynamis ( If that were the case Hermes would never have been able to create Meiteon), But more likely that they just hadn't made the logical leap to consider the two as coming from a fundamental pool of nebulous " energy ".
The main reason I look at it this way is because of the final fight with Zenos. I think our constant pushing of the limit in that fight is meant to represent a conversion of dynamis into usable Aether, But I don't think it's a necessarily because we understood dynamis better. The one solid fact we know about dynamis is that it is strongly affected by emotion, And that fight is an emotionally charged moment not just from a storytelling perspective but to the characters involved. To me it seems likely that emotions agitate the flow of dynamis, and cause it to sort of burn releasing energy into a more usable form.
And to circle back to the ancients, I think the reason they lacked ability to manipulate dynamis at a wider scale, is because their culture has a very prominent focus on crushing individuality and suppressing emotion. They are a very ascetic culture based on what we've seen, and I think this is the real determining factor into why their knowledge and use of dynamis is so limited.

Whilst I recognise that this might be only my head cannon, I keep reading peoples comments about dynamis and it seems to be believed by people that dynamis IS emotion, rather than being an ENERGY that can be MANIPULATED or AFFECTED by emotion. In my mind the Elpis flower itself even proves that. A flower, as we understand them doesn't have emotion, but the emotions of others around the flower are affecting the charge of the dynamis either within or around the flower thus changing its colour. I also want to suggest something else. I believe that limit breaks are neither exclusively aether based or exclusively dynamis based. I believe the intent of the lore was to suggest that in using or accessing the energy that is dynamis we are augmenting or pushing past the mortal limitations of our natural powers in time of desperation to result in something I would compare with a sort of adrenaline rush. I have nothing to prove that particular point but I feel like it lets both the aether and the dynamis components not directly contradict each other. Moreover the game seems to imply that though aether is more potent than dynamis sufficient quantities of dynamis can overpower aether too, otherwise Hermes would have had no need to create an entelechy in the first place in order to traverse the great expanse he had to 'look to an alternative source of energy by necessity' if i remember his quote correctly. At this point in time we don't actually know what the power ratio between a unit of aether and a unit of dynamis actually is. aether could be 20% stronger of 1000% stronger, we simply don't have that information at the moment

While I generally agree with your position on the DK and Warrior jobs in general, I'd like to point out that surprisingly weak effects can have dramatically disproportionate impacts in complex systems, so even if it's effects where EXTREMELY limited if those effects where of the right nature they could still play a critical and/or catalytic role yet still go unnoticed until one knew to look. Just think about how IRL it's often only when our old models don't quite work do we start looking for new options, and are all to willing to overlook small discrepancies so long as it's "good enough". So my hypothesis is that while on the concrete level the jobs work as we've always assumed, certain jobs, especially those that use emotions/instincts, may use dynimus to get that last little something something to work, much like how lighting is diven by atmospheric conditions, yet stray stellar particles can often serve to set of the cascade that is the bolt itself

I know this video is now over a year old; but, I offer one small postulation. As Yoshi P has said that he plans continued development for FFXIV: what if Dynamis is a way for additional abilities to be added, changed, or offer a gateway to one of the shards? For example: players when they start a basic class lack a job/soul stone until later in the story, at which new abilities are given, some abilities change in power, and the learning of the job truly begins. I could stand to reason that there could be something that takes place where the job/soul stone is infused with the ability to control Dynamis: resulting in abilities the WoL already has to be something more, something different, or to be able to gain a completely new ability altogether. Just a thought....

    A few thoughts:
    1) Humanity is capable of interacting with dynamis, they just didn't know how. Some people have guessed that a limit break is an example of this. This is supported by the phase change in the final day trial where your friends create a shield for you.
    2) Nero knew something. In the Crystal Tower raid, he was searching for an unknown power source. At the end of the raid series, the final cutscene has him standing on a cliff edge near the crystal tower. He says something about going off to start a new life and throws his scanner into the ravine. As the camera pans away, morse code can be heard echoing up from the canyon. The morse code, when translated, says "It's all wrong". Sound familiar? He detected Meteion and the power source he was looking for was Dynamis. This is in the cutscene still and can be seen in the journal in the inn. They had that planned almost a decade ago.
3)Other possibilities for Dynamis in action would be the bard and monk who use inner ability rather than specific aether applications but that's just a theory.
    4) Shortly before the "Final Days" dungeon, Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus were able to use creation magic to create a field of flowers that produced enough dynamis to sustain the environment in Ultima Thule without the souls of the Scions, allowing them to be re-formed. Thus Dynamis could, to some degree, be interacted with by Aether dense beings using magic.

About the limit break, it triggers when you get to low HP in ff6 and ff8. I remember reading somewhere that it could be seen as an action by desperate emotion to overcome tough situations. In ff7, the limit gauge build up when you got hit which in turn can be seen as you get angrier. In ff9, trance state is also linked to emotion I think. Which that I think linking limitbreaks to dynamis is not so far fetched.
It has been awhile since I play those game so I might be mistaken but it just my thought.

One point of correction. We know what Zodiark did to Ethierys once summoned and the change he made to what aether did. He changed the world from one where the celestial aether (the outermost aetheric part of the atmosphere) followed currents and changed density in places according to various laws, to one where the celestial aether was constantly dense around the entire planet, with no drop in density at all.
This was because the ancients discovered that areas of low celestial aetheric density were the places the Final Days would turn apocolyptic. And once the Song started attacking, changing, and eventually corroding spots of weak aether, they'd stay that way.
Hydaelyn's capturing of Zodiark was done to keep him doing that. Once Zodiark is gone, the world's aetheric rules went right back to their natural state, and to that we see the one result: Celestial Aether reverts back to a variant state.

  • @temporalwolf7054

My biggest theory in regards of Dynamis is that Auracite is the perfect balance of Aether and Dynamis intermingled. The strong desires and emotions it takes in along with the aether mingling and mixing until the very fabric of reality begins to fray as ambition reshapes the flesh. Whether Ultima was aware of Dynamis when creating the auracite in 14's version of Ivalice is up for debate, though I'm personally leaning toward the idea that it was more of an accidental byproduct rather than a feature.
To use the example of concrete and abstract energy you make here, I kind of visualize Dynamis in similar terms of soundwaves. A powerful enough blast of sound has the power to knock someone off their feet, or even jostle internal organs while leaving the rest of the body unaffected, but in its natural state is something we experience all the time and we don't consciously notice it. But with the right tools and, time, and energy can be amplified fairly easily to deafening degrees. By the same token, should a tool or amplifier not be properly adjusted, those waves can become amplified ad infinitum in a feedback loop, until ears start bleeding.

Great video. However I disagree with the idea that dynamis have played only a small part in shaping our world.
Dynamis may have been discovered and expanded upon just recently, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t play a big factor in the way our world is shaped.
Just consider the great men and women of history, and how they may have shaped
Eorzea. Given how the WoL can tap into dynamis via limit break. Who’s to say the great men and women couldn’t have inadvertently tapped into Dynamis to do the same?
-Thordan and his knights killing a Rotatoskr.
-Shantoto banishing a giant meteor heading towards Eorzea
These examples in history could easily be explained by warriors and mages, tapping into desperation, breaking their limits, all to overcome barriers ahead of them. This is what dynamis fundamentally is.
While you’re right - that there are no records of scribes literally writing down “Thordon and his knights killed the great dragon Rotatoskr via limit break and dynamis”, the way the songs and myths have reiterated these fables, can suggest that these storied men and women may have tapped into dynamis to overcome fearsome barriers.
In short: dynamis may NOT have been recorded well by scholars, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t shape the history of Eorzea

I wish to posit a theory. Just a theory, mind you, so take it with a grain of salt. In the video, when talking about the astral eras, it is said no evidence of dynamis was noticed, recorded, etc. From what we know if dynamis, it is manipulated in the form of emotions. My theory is that the Unsundered, unknowingly, in determining the proper way to bring about a rejoining, discovered a way to break down the barriers between worlds to allow the aspected Aether to flow from a shard to the source. But why does it require a calamity? Let’s look at how the Ascians bring about a calamity….chaos. When the chaos comes ensues, each and every time, desperation sets in. It is this dispair, fear, and even anger that is the true energy that breaks down those barriers. And we, now being sundered and able to more easily interact with dynamis, unintentionally bring about the rejoining through breaking down the barriers via dynamis. Dynamis may be weaker than aether, but the elemental imbalance combined with the dispair that manifests as dynamis (“Dispair is like a raging river…” -Meteion). It is enough to, as I stated, shatter the barrier enough to allow the flow of elemental Aether in an attempt to achieve Aether if equilibrium.
By all means, speculate or put what I have said to the test. So far, it is mostly conjecture based on what very little we know of dynamis and much of what we know of the rejoining thanks to Emet-Selch.

Here's my wild hypothesis regarding Dynamis and LB's. So, I believe that when someone executes a limit break they're effectively using almost every last drop of their aether, to a degree it's actually dangerous. This is where I think Dynamis come into play, filling in the void left by our (temporarily) detached aether in a manner not unlike what's seen in terminus beasts. This doesn't explain how one who's performed a LB has enough aether to keep fighting after it's finished, but as I said earlier this is very much wild conjecture.

One theory I had on dynamis and how it interacts is that unlike aether it is a more vague and "spiritual" energy. Ather is solid (metaphorically speaking) it has elemental manifestations, poles, and can be weaved into direct spells. It is controlled via techniques and mind. While dynamis is tied to emotions, it is more passive, and unseen. Less methadological per say and less potent. That might be why it wasn't as out there and worked on as aether.
Anyone can look at a warrior pushing his hardest and say: "Oh they barely pulled through." Realistically not many would go out of their way and be like: "Oh odd they shouldn't be able to do that so there must be a second force!" If that makes sense.
Way I see dynamis and aether based classes is, dynamis boosts your overall skills. Or as the game puts it, it helps you go beyond your limits. While it's effects aren't as pronounced as that of the aether, it is there behind the curtains, assisting you during your hour of need, feeding not upon your pool of magic, but of your emotions, urging you to stride ever forward through and beyond your limits.

My theory on dynamis, is that it is the exact same thing as the “press of death” from fire force. If you’ve ever watched fire force you’ll know that in the last training arc with benimaru he teaches shinra and Arthur how to exceed their limits and access their hysterical strength and get an adrenaline boost that allows them to keep going in a fight. Benimaru explains that the press of death is more emotional/mental than physical, because you have to genuinely that believe you will die in a fight in order activate it, but once you active it, you break your limits and are able to do things with your powers you could never normally do. I think this is what dynamis is because of the final fight against zenos, both you and zenos surpass your limits in the final fight pushing each other to the brink of death you both come back fully healed and charged with more powerful than before, they say that this is because of the dynamis in your souls burning with passion for the fight, that is pushed you into overdrive, you both tap into your hysterical strength, desperate to defeat the other as the fight goes on, and you both are able to keep going again and again until both you you die. That’s why at the end of the fight neither of you can move, and are on the brink of death, dynamis, or in other words adrenaline caused tou both to used up everything you guys had and left you nothing except what little ability you had to blink.

Since dk and war abilities are at least partially rooted in emotion, then it's possible that there's a subconscious mixing of the two. Also Bard songs. And well if it's subconscious, would they notice?

I love the video! I personally think Dynamis Jobs could be coming in the future! Dancer, to me, is a Dynamis Job! After the Dancer Job quest & the MSQ it all fits! We thought Dancer was using Aether but we were wrong or we could be using a combination of Aether/Dynamis! We use Dynamis during the fight with the Endsinger & Zenos fights! This could bring about whole new jobs! Maybe the so called New World has been using Dynamis & they were not effected by the End days as much! Maybe Dynamis could be used to fix the 13th & also help us bring about Rejoining's without the Sundering's!!! Who knows!?! I am super excited for Dynamis in FF14, it opens so many doors! Great vid, keep up the great work! ;)

this REALLY makes me wonder if one of the surviving shards has actually discovered dynamis early on and has become extremely fluent in it since they are the most susceptible to it to the point that some people on there might even think of aether as useless. that would be so fucking interesting

I think it's weird that Dynamis is emotional energy but it's most abundant in the expanse of space where beings that have emotional energy don't really exist, they all live in planets with aether

Dynamis is akin to FF14’s version of dark matter/dark energy with aether being akin to traditional matter and energy (in our universe, scientists believe that most of the universe is dark matter and dark energy). But they put a spin on it, making it linked to emotions somehow.

Unfortunately Dark Matter is a recognized thing in FFXIV. NPC's in Labyrinthos are talking about it. So Dynamis isn't Dark Matter it's just weeeeeeird. lmao

@@SynodicScribe Sure dark matter is in FF14 - it helps you mend your own gear. But real life dark matter and dark energy are different. That’s why I stated that dynamis is a dark matter/dark energy analog. There is so much unknown about them, they were just recently theorized within the last few decades, and most estimates have them make up at least 2/3 of our universe.

You know I'm thinking about dark knight questline, Fray says that we needed a teacher, so we created one and it's never fully explained how but maybe now we know... If that was dynamis it raise some thoughts and I'll have to disagree with dynamis having little impact in history and the world, think that there's a lot of things that we never truly understood and just attributed it to ether or some sort of supernatural.

I should point out though that even if the WoL is 8 times rejoined due to Ardbert, it is heavily implied that the finishing blow dealt to Hades using the light that was contained in the WoL also consumed Ardbert's power. So yes, for a short time between the beginning and end of the fight with Hades, the WoL was 8 times rejoined but afterwards likely returned as only 7 times rejoined. That's further confirmed later when Elidibus walks around in Ardbert's body : the MSQ implies that Ardbert is no more so it becomes glaringly obvious that Elidibus-as-Ardbert is a fake.
Either that or that explains why limit breaks are becoming less and less impressive as the overall output of damage makes it use as an emergency raise or mechanic block more important than a damage dealing move : with a 8th rejoining, the potential to deal damage with an LB is less than the constant, raw damage dealt over a period of time by the party... but an emergency party raise is always viable as is being able to soak a party wipe mechanic.

Theory time: Limit Breaks are exclusive to dynamis-wielding individuals. This is why Omega CANNOT defeat you nor truly break its limits. And the only reason Elidibus can Limit Break is either because of the multiple WoL that he summoned/created who CAN, or because he essentially created for himself a WoL body that can handle dynamis (I'm leaning towards the former).
Note that I haven't looked back at the Endsinger fight yet, so whatever details are in there may throw this whole theory out the window - which I'm totally fine with.
