I just bought a beautiful fiddle leaf fig three days ago that measures 15 inches tall and placed it on a corner of my living room next to a window and I found this video very informative. Thank you and lots of blessings to you from Puerto Rico the island of enchantment.
Fantastic video Thank you for taking the time to re-pot the plant. Really help to see the process as well as the challenges an how beautifully you handled them. Enjoyed your video tremendously!! Thank you!!
Thank you for this video. As usual, it's very informative. I purchased my first Fiddle Leaf Fig a couple of weeks ago. I was sure I had it in the right spot because it started to shoot up new leaves very quickly and they looked very healthy. But the past few days it's been very rainy and overcast and those new leaves fell over. I did some research and figured it was a combination of the fact that the leaves are new and the plant was due for watering, and when I watered the plant over the weekend they perked up soon after and were standing upright again, but a day or two later they fell over again. I've now moved it to the patio, which is South-West facing. I think with all the rain and how overcast it is outside that the window I initially placed it by was no longer providing adequate light. I hope it will be okay now that I've moved it.
Hi! If you keep the plant in its original plastic nursery pot, it (maybe) just needs to be repotted in a proper pot. @@Mycityplants - Thank you very much. I still have it in the nursery pot because I’ve only had it a few weeks, not even a month as yet. And all of the plant channels I watch here advise not to repot immediately after bringing it home from the nursery. I don’t have enough light coming from the east. It’s blocked by the house next door. I felt SW would be too bright but it’s the rainy season here and the days have been so dreary and overcast. I just found you. I subscribed because you are so organized & detailed. You touch on stuff I haven’t heard anyone else mention. My fiddle leaf edges are brown, like the ones you were trimming. Is it normal?. I was wondering if i was doing something wrong.
Hi! Thank you for watching and your kind words. Glad you like our videos. Fiddle Leaf Fig leaves will brown most of the time due to improper watering. Make sure you are testing the soil before watering. Soil Moisture meter amzn.to/3uUrnnq will help you to set up the right frequency: If the plant gets lots of bright light, water when the meter reading is in the zone 4-5 If the plant is in a lower light spot, water when the meter reading is in the zone 2-3 Here is our video about how to use this tool: bit.ly/3TI2sMb May your plants grow happy and healthy! Hello I am new to your channel thankyou for all the viable information. However, I do have a fig leaf and it hasn’t grown quite well for me. I just repotted it in a new pot with peat moss but I did not water it once repotted. Should I have done? that yes or no , also what’s the reason for the brown on ends of the fig leaf, and I know you stated trim them but what else is required afterwards? Thank you again !
Hi Anita, If the soil is dry, water the plant. Brown dry tips can be the sign of dehydration or/and low humidity. Brown soft tips can be the sign of overwatering. It is best to use the Soil Moisture meter to establish a proper watering frequency. Fiddle Leaf Fig should be watered when the meter reading is in the 2-3 zone Here is our video about how to use this tool before and after watering: bit.ly/3TI2sMb Plants are now in the active growth phase and I hope your plant will grow some new leaves soon! Thank you for watching 🌱
When I got my fiddle leaf it was pushing out a lot of new growth. It was in a south facing window that got like two hours of sun rays and the rest was just bright indirect light. I moved to a new apartment with a wide east facing window and it has not grown any new leaves in a year. It still has a big view of my east facing window but I also bought a soltech grow light. I’ve just cut the top and going to fertilize. Hoping it stimulates new growth.
Hi! Thank you for watching! Moving a Fiddle Leaf Fig to a new location and change of light situation can affect its growth temporarily. Plants can experience a period of adjustment when they are relocated to a new environment. This adjustment period may cause the plant to slow down or temporarily halt its growth as it acclimates to its new surroundings. Here are a few other factors that can contribute to a Fiddle Leaf Fig (Ficus lyrata) indoors stopping the growth of new leaves: Overwatering or Underwatering: Incorrect watering can stress the plant, leading to stunted growth or leaf drop. Make sure to adjust watering routine since the plant is placed in a different light environment. This tool will help to establish a proper frequency: amzn.to/3VwiNpV Here is our video about how to use Meter: bit.ly/3TI2sMb *** Water FLF when the soil moisture is in 3-4 zone Nutrient Deficiency: Fiddle Leaf Figs require regular fertilization during the growing season (spring-summer) to support healthy growth. If your plant isn't receiving enough nutrients, it may stop producing new leaves. Glad you are feeding it now. Root Bound: If the plant has outgrown its pot and its roots are crowded, it may struggle to uptake water and nutrients efficiently, leading to slowed growth. Repotting into a larger container can help alleviate this issue. FLF needs to be repotted once every 2-3 years. Temperature and Humidity: Fiddle Leaf Figs prefer warm temperatures and high humidity. If the indoor environment is too cold or dry, it can hinder growth. Consider placing a humidifier nearby. Pests or Diseases: Pests like spider mites or diseases such as root rot can also impact the plant's growth. Inspect your plant regularly for signs of pests or diseases and take appropriate measures to address any issues. Green Cheers & Hope your plant will adjust and thrive!
Hi! Thank you for watching! Given the right nutrition and growing conditions, Fiddle Leaf Figs can achieve an annual growth of one to two feet! Plants in the video are about 7 feet tall. Plants need to be repotted, on average, once every 2 years. We buy these already grown for our online shop and commercial greenery installations. :) Green Cheers!
Hi Yvonne, Thank you for watching 🌱 First of all find out why the holes are there: - A pest infestation - Low humidity issues that affect new growth - Nutrient deficiencies - Rot caused by overwatering - Physical damage If there is an issue, take action - treat and/or adjust care routine This article is very helpful about why there are holes on the leaves of Fiddle Leaf Fig and what to do thehealthyhouseplant.com/the-5-most-likely-reasons-for-holes-in-your-fiddle-leaf-fig/ Green Cheers!

Hi Yalyn, Sorry to hear that. Hope, by adjusting your care routine, you can stabilize your plant and make it grow many new leaves for you! Green Luck! Thank you for watching 🌱
Question! I’ve notice on your BOP video and this FLF video that you tend to trim off the brown spots on the edges of leaves and such instead of taking the whole leaf off? I was not sure how to proceed! Any tips?
I’m in south Florida and just bought a FL Fig. I have it outside by the pool under the roof overhang facing north. Is that good as far as light? It’s in shade all the time. Also in Florida do you also just water spring and summer or year round since it’s mostly warm here all year?🎃
Hi Gordon, Congrats on your new plant! North side and under the roof - this light environment is not best for Fiddle Leaf Figs. These plants need bright light. Since you are in Florida where the sun is pretty strong, place this plant in the spot where it can get indirect bright light or at least move from under the roof. Plants need to be watered when the soil is dry half or 3/4 way down. Best to use Soil Moisture Meter bit.ly/2yuXVpc Test the soil with this tool and water your plant when the meter reading is in the 2-4 zone Plants need to be fertilized during Spring and Summer. May your plant grow happy and healthy! Thank you for watching 🌱

Excellent video! We have a giant fiddle leaf fig tree that’s over 9 feet tall. It has four stalks. We recently noticed yellowing leaves with browning veins. We haven’t changed our watering routine so we think there must be ponding in the pot causing the soil to be too moist. It’s been in this pot for three years. We are going to attempt to repot it. Hi Ekta, There are might be a few reasons why your Fiddle Leaf Fig is not growing and has some browning: - not enough light Plant needs to be in a bright light area. - need some nutrients Watch our video about when and how to fertilize plants bit.ly/3teZEaw - watering issue These plants are very sensitive to over and under watering. I strongly recommend getting the Soil meter mycityplants.com/products/soil-moisture-meter for establishing a proper watering frequency for your plant. Test the soil with the meter once every 7-10 days Water the plant when the meter is in the 2-3 zone - not porous soil Important to use well draining potting mix/soil + use a pot that has drainage! Hope this information helps. Green Cheers & Thank you for watching 🌱

Hi Homeira, Best to buy plants locally to avoid any transportation shock and damage. Check out your local plant shops, greenhouses, garden centers. Thank you for watching 🌱
Mine is dying 😢 bought it 3 weeks ago she is 2 meters tall..she was fine until 3 days ago the leaves started turning brown and she dropped to many, watered her every 10 days the water came out and a day later the soil was so dry and the roots were showing on top so today I decided to repot her and she dropped more leaves 😢
Hi! I'm sorry to hear about your Fiddle Leaf Fig! It sounds like it might be experiencing some stress. Here are a few things you can consider: - Check the Watering Routine: Always test the soil before watering. Make sure the soil is dry (as deep as you can test it with your finger) before watering again. These plants are very sensitive and can stress out if they dry out too quickly or sit in water for too long. I would recommend getting the Soil Moisture meter to help you to establish a proper watering frequency. Learn more about this tool here: mycityplants.com/plant-care/how-to-use-soil-moisture-meter/ - Repotting Impact: Repotting can be stressful for a plant, especially if it's been done while the plant is already struggling. Ensure that the new pot has good drainage and you have used fresh, well-draining soil for repotting. Wishing your plant a full recovery! Green Cheers
Hi Kyle, It is normal for some lower leaves to drop due to repotting shock. Make sure the pot has drainage and the plant is in the bright light spot. Establish a proper watering frequency by testing the soil once every 5-7 days. Plant should stop dropping leaves once it’s acclimated to its new pot or/and room + gets proper care. Thank you for watching 🌱
I noticed you used a metal rod to reinforce the trunk of the FLF tree. I never thought of that and wanted to ask would it ever rust in the soil. I found that using the plastic rods that turn window blinds work excellent for mine until they out grow it. They are really sturdy.

Soil Moisture meter amzn.to/3uUrnnq will help you to set up the right frequency:
If the plant gets lots of bright light, water when the meter reading is in the zone 4-5
If the plant is in a lower light spot, water when the meter reading is in the zone 2-3

Hi! Thank you for watching 🌱
Pon - this substrate is a part of the Lechuza sub-irrigation system.

Love your videos! Do you use the self watering reservoir on the Lechuza pots for your figs?
Hi Aaron,
Yes, we pot these plants in Lechuza and after 3-4 months after repotting, switch to self-watering feature.
IMPORTANT - to allow the soil to dry before re-filling the reservoir.

Hi Anita,
If the soil is dry, water the plant.
Brown dry tips can be the sign of dehydration or/and low humidity.
Brown soft tips can be the sign of overwatering.
It is best to use the Soil Moisture meter to establish a proper watering frequency. Fiddle Leaf Fig should be watered when the meter reading is in the 2-3 zone
Here is our video about how to use this tool before and after watering: bit.ly/3TI2sMb
Plants are now in the active growth phase and I hope your plant will grow some new leaves soon!
Here are a few other factors that can contribute to a Fiddle Leaf Fig (Ficus lyrata) indoors stopping the growth of new leaves:
Overwatering or Underwatering: Incorrect watering can stress the plant, leading to stunted growth or leaf drop. Make sure to adjust watering routine since the plant is placed in a different light environment.
This tool will help to establish a proper frequency: amzn.to/3VwiNpV
Here is our video about how to use Meter: bit.ly/3TI2sMb
*** Water FLF when the soil moisture is in 3-4 zone
Nutrient Deficiency: Fiddle Leaf Figs require regular fertilization during the growing season (spring-summer) to support healthy growth.
Wow amazing ideas.
Thank you for watching 🌱
Great video! how many years old was the tree that you repotted?

Hi. When I bought my fiddle leaf I found that some of the leaves have holes in the middle of the leaf. Do I need to remove these leaves? Many thanks
Hi Yvonne,
Thank you for watching 🌱
First of all find out why the holes are there:
- A pest infestation
- Low humidity issues that affect new growth
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Rot caused by overwatering
- Physical damage
If there is an issue, take action - treat and/or adjust care routine

I’m in south Florida and just bought a FL Fig. I have it outside by the pool under the roof overhang facing north. Is that good as far as light? It’s in shade all the time.
Also in Florida do you also just water spring and summer or year round since it’s mostly warm here all year?🎃
Hi Gordon,
Congrats on your new plant!
Best to use Soil Moisture Meter bit.ly/2yuXVpc

Is it good and posible to get it in full lechuza pon instead of using soil for this plant?
Hi Alberto,
Yes. Just keep in mind that PON is heavy and when a large plant potted in this substrate, the pot will not be easy to move if needed.

Thanks for the tips!

Remember to rotate the plant often 😃

Hi!! Does the fiddle leaf need to be watered when repotted?
Hi Alishia,
Plants need to be watered after repotting.
If the soil around the roots and/or soil you used is wet, water just a little.
If all dry, water well.

Need help my FLF. The growth tip is brown. No new growth seen. How do I fix it?
Hi Ekta,
There are might be a few reasons why your Fiddle Leaf Fig is not growing and has some browning:
- not enough light
Plant needs to be in a bright light area.
- need some nutrients
Watch our video about when and how to fertilize plants bit.ly/3teZEaw
- watering issue
These plants are very sensitive to over and under watering.
I strongly recommend getting the Soil meter mycityplants.com/products/soil-moisture-meter for establishing a proper watering frequency for your plant.
Test the soil with the meter once every 7-10 days
Water the plant when the meter is in the 2-3 zone
- not porous soil
Important to use well draining potting mix/soil + use a pot that has drainage!
Hope this information helps.

Here are a few things you can consider:
- Check the Watering Routine: Always test the soil before watering. Make sure the soil is dry (as deep as you can test it with your finger) before watering again. These plants are very sensitive and can stress out if they dry out too quickly or sit in water for too long.
I would recommend getting the Soil Moisture meter to help you to establish a proper watering frequency.
Learn more about this tool here: mycityplants.com/plant-care/how-to-use-soil-moisture-meter/
- Repotting Impact: Repotting can be stressful for a plant, especially if it's been done while the plant is already struggling. Ensure that the new pot has good drainage and you have used fresh, well-draining soil for repotting.
Wishing your plant a full recovery! Green Cheers
If the leaves drop after repotting . How to prevent the leaves from dropping?
Hi Kyle,
It is normal for some lower leaves to drop due to repotting shock.
Make sure the pot has drainage and the plant is in the bright light spot.
Establish a proper watering frequency by testing the soil once every 5-7 days.
Plant should stop dropping leaves once it’s acclimated to its new pot or/and room + gets proper care.
