Another easy way to remove excess water from saucers of really large planters is by using a turkey baster.

I just inherited two beautifully tall fiddle leaf fig trees in our newly purchased home. They were in pots that were far too small and this was so helpful to understand how to repot them. Thank you!

Thank you for this video. As usual, it's very informative. I purchased my first Fiddle Leaf Fig a couple of weeks ago. I was sure I had it in the right spot because it started to shoot up new leaves very quickly and they looked very healthy. But the past few days it's been very rainy and overcast and those new leaves fell over. I did some research and figured it was a combination of the fact that the leaves are new and the plant was due for watering, and when I watered the plant over the weekend they perked up soon after and were standing upright again, but a day or two later they fell over again. I've now moved it to the patio, which is South-West facing. I think with all the rain and how overcast it is outside that the window I initially placed it by was no longer providing adequate light. I hope it will be okay now that I've moved it.

    • @Mycityplants

Hi! If you keep the plant in its original plastic nursery pot, it (maybe) just needs to be repotted in a proper pot. When selecting a pot, make sure it has drainage and about 3-5" bigger and deeper than the original pot.
*** South-West exposure is too strong for your plant.
Indirect bright light or filtered sunlight is the best.
Morning sun is very gentle and the plant will be also happy growing in a spot with East exposure.
Green Luck, and thank you for watching 🌱

      @MarshaABranch 3 роки тому

@@Mycityplants - Thank you very much. I still have it in the nursery pot because I’ve only had it a few weeks, not even a month as yet. And all of the plant channels I watch here advise not to repot immediately after bringing it home from the nursery.
I don’t have enough light coming from the east. It’s blocked by the house next door. I felt SW would be too bright but it’s the rainy season here and the days have been so dreary and overcast. So it was no longer getting enough light by the window where I had it, which is also shaded by large trees. Some days I feel like I’m really catching on and becoming a plant mom. Other days I feel like a plant murderer. 😭

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  3 роки тому +2

      You can repot the plant.
If you can find a shady spot in that South-West facing area or, if indoors, filter the direct sun, the plant will be happy!
Rainy days do lower the light intensity but plants can handle gloomy days as long as they are close to a large window and exposed to a natural light.
You may also get a grow light and use it during long rainy seasons or for plants that are in a lower light areas. 🌱

I can imagine the effort you have to go through.

      Hi!
Thank you for watching and your kind words. Glad you like our videos.
Fiddle Leaf Fig leaves will brown most of the time due to improper watering.
Make sure you are testing the soil before watering.
Soil Moisture meter amzn.to/3uUrnnq will help you to set up the right frequency:
If the plant gets lots of bright light, water when the meter reading is in the zone 4-5
If the plant is in a lower light spot, water when the meter reading is in the zone 2-3

Hello I am new to your channel thankyou for all the viable information. However, I do have a fig leaf and it hasn’t grown quite well for me. I just repotted it in a new pot with peat moss but I did not water it once repotted. Should I have done? that yes or no , also what’s the reason for the brown on ends of the fig leaf, and I know you stated trim them but what else is required afterwards? Thank you again !

    • @Mycityplants

      Hi Anita,
If the soil is dry, water the plant.
Brown dry tips can be the sign of dehydration or/and low humidity.
Brown soft tips can be the sign of overwatering.
It is best to use the Soil Moisture meter to establish a proper watering frequency. Fiddle Leaf Fig should be watered when the meter reading is in the 2-3 zone
Here is our video about how to use this tool before and after watering: bit.ly/3TI2sMb

When I got my fiddle leaf it was pushing out a lot of new growth. It was in a south facing window that got like two hours of sun rays and the rest was just bright indirect light. I moved to a new apartment with a wide east facing window and it has not grown any new leaves in a year. It still has a big view of my east facing window but I also bought a soltech grow light. I’ve just cut the top and going to fertilize. Hoping it stimulates new growth.

      Hi! Thank you for watching!
Moving a Fiddle Leaf Fig to a new location and change of light situation can affect its growth temporarily.
Plants can experience a period of adjustment when they are relocated to a new environment. This adjustment period may cause the plant to slow down or temporarily halt its growth as it acclimates to its new surroundings.
Here are a few other factors that can contribute to a Fiddle Leaf Fig (Ficus lyrata) indoors stopping the growth of new leaves:
Overwatering or Underwatering: Incorrect watering can stress the plant, leading to stunted growth or leaf drop. Make sure to adjust watering routine since the plant is placed in a different light environment.
This tool will help to establish a proper frequency: amzn.to/3VwiNpV
Here is our video about how to use Meter: bit.ly/3TI2sMb
*** Water FLF when the soil moisture is in 3-4 zone
Nutrient Deficiency: Fiddle Leaf Figs require regular fertilization during the growing season (spring-summer) to support healthy growth. If your plant isn't receiving enough nutrients, it may stop producing new leaves.
Glad you are feeding it now.
Root Bound: If the plant has outgrown its pot and its roots are crowded, it may struggle to uptake water and nutrients efficiently, leading to slowed growth. Repotting into a larger container can help alleviate this issue. FLF needs to be repotted once every 2-3 years.
Temperature and Humidity: Fiddle Leaf Figs prefer warm temperatures and high humidity. If the indoor environment is too cold or dry, it can hinder growth. Consider placing a humidifier nearby.
Pests or Diseases: Pests like spider mites or diseases such as root rot can also impact the plant's growth. Inspect your plant regularly for signs of pests or diseases and take appropriate measures to address any issues.
Green Cheers & Hope your plant will adjust and thrive!

      Hi Yvonne,
      Thank you for watching 🌱
First of all find out why the holes are there:
      - A pest infestation
      - Low humidity issues that affect new growth
      - Nutrient deficiencies
      - Rot caused by overwatering
      - Physical damage
If there is an issue, take action - treat and/or adjust care routine

I’m in south Florida and just bought a FL Fig. I have it outside by the pool under the roof overhang facing north. Is that good as far as light? It’s in shade all the time.
Also in Florida do you also just water spring and summer or year round since it’s mostly warm here all year?🎃

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  2 роки тому

      Hi Gordon,
      Congrats on your new plant!
North side and under the roof - this light environment is not best for Fiddle Leaf Figs.
      These plants need bright light.
Since you are in Florida where the sun is pretty strong, place this plant in the spot where it can get indirect bright light or at least move from under the roof.
Plants need to be watered when the soil is dry half or 3/4 way down. Best to use Soil Moisture Meter bit.ly/2yuXVpc

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  2 роки тому

      Hi Ekta,
There are might be a few reasons why your Fiddle Leaf Fig is not growing and has some browning:
      - not enough light
Plant needs to be in a bright light area.
      - need some nutrients
Watch our video about when and how to fertilize plants bit.ly/3teZEaw
      - watering issue
These plants are very sensitive to over and under watering.
I strongly recommend getting the Soil meter mycityplants.com/products/soil-moisture-meter for establishing a proper watering frequency for your plant.
Test the soil with the meter once every 7-10 days
Water the plant when the meter is in the 2-3 zone
      - not porous soil
Important to use well draining potting mix/soil + use a pot that has drainage!
      Hope this information helps.

      Hi!
I'm sorry to hear about your Fiddle Leaf Fig! It sounds like it might be experiencing some stress.
Here are a few things you can consider:
      - Check the Watering Routine: Always test the soil before watering. Make sure the soil is dry (as deep as you can test it with your finger) before watering again. These plants are very sensitive and can stress out if they dry out too quickly or sit in water for too long.
I would recommend getting the Soil Moisture meter to help you to establish a proper watering frequency.
Learn more about this tool here: mycityplants.com/plant-care/how-to-use-soil-moisture-meter/
      - Repotting Impact: Repotting can be stressful for a plant, especially if it's been done while the plant is already struggling. Ensure that the new pot has good drainage and you have used fresh, well-draining soil for repotting.
Wishing your plant a full recovery! Green Cheers

      Hi Kyle,
It is normal for some lower leaves to drop due to repotting shock.
Make sure the pot has drainage and the plant is in the bright light spot.
Establish a proper watering frequency by testing the soil once every 5-7 days.
Plant should stop dropping leaves once it’s acclimated to its new pot or/and room + gets proper care.
