Very nice! When i did the retrofits on my Legacy, i did 240 degrees for 20min. Headlights came right apart! Nice work on the headlamps!
awesome, add me on instagram @StaggeredHorizons so I can check out yours and thanks so much, I really appreciate the kinds words and for stopping by the channel :D
will do man!
To say this was a project is an understatement. Just wondering if using a primer first would have helped cut back on the number color coats?
I didn't mind the coats. The painting of these, (not to speak big about myself) I'm no pro painter at all, but these came out amazing :D I can't wait to see these installed, thanks for watching Peter! Trying to keep myself busy with the Subie so I don't get down in the dumps about the wintertime with no z06 haha
Please don't think I was insinuating the job didn't turn out great, which it did, but I would have been worried about the non-primered first coat, if not the 2nd or 3rd as well, running. Not that you know what's involved, wouldn't it be the same process to do it on the Vette as well? Really looking forward to seeing Suzie after her surgery. :-)
thanks Peter, She will be looking pretty good, regardless the off colored hood for now that we will get fixed. This would be the same process for many different headlights, however, I wouldn't touch anything on the z06 :D
damn you made this job seem much harder than it is. Kudos for making the video as i'm digging the channel. i've pulled my 05-07 headlights apart a few times and found it to be super easy. i also baked mine for 200 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes and that worked a treat. how long did you let the paint cure before installing back onto the lens?
hard than it is? haha oops I was trying to show that it's a DIY project that isn't crazy but definitely takes some time. Appreciate the kind words on the channel. I let the painted headlights cure over night and put them together the next day. I would definitely give them time to dry and fumigate before closing them back up. Thanks for stopping by!
no problem man keep up the content :)
Thank you!
Nice! i want to do this but I also want to retro fit some halos and HIDs in there.
hell yeah, that would be awesome! let me see them when you do it! I ended up putting different bulbs in them, which I will discuss in the next headlight video, thanks for watching!
Yeah, baking headlight assemblies is a bit nerve wracking. I did it to a 2000 Miata, to install Morimoto LED projector modules.
I'm watching this video in hopes of seeing how the Subaru projectors work. I have a terrible light pattern from one headlight on a recently purchased Legacy, and noted the cap is missing off the back. I fear that the reflector coating has peeled off from exposure.
Hi. I have outback 2008 and i had to replace parabols inside the bi-xenon headlights. They were not reflecting any light from xenon bulb because the parabols of projectors were so matt from inside. It is fault of almost every car with xenons and every subaru (with xenos or halogen bulbs). Does not matter if it was exposed or not. I replaced them one year ago, but now i am thinking of installing new bi-led projectors instead of bixenons.
@@peterv8459 I finally had a chance to investigate, and was just a slightly mis-seated bulb.
You got me concerned about the parabolic lens. I have been considering installing HID lamps. Is the lens acrylic or glass?
Take it from someone whose tried all the drop in LED bulbs, including very expensive ones, that they all suck. Going with something like the Morimoto previously mentioned, is the only way to get a proper light pattern. Down side is, if it should burn out, you have to bake the headlight assembly again, to replace the entire unit.
I want to do that to mine two looks amazing do you think il be easier whit a heat-gun ? Or the oven is the way to go let me know😊
Thanks for stopping by! a heat gun or an oven could work. a heat gun could directly put heat around the housing. I have seen people do both heat gun and the oven. I figured the oven would do the trick, that's what I use when opening headlights. You could also do both, oven and then take out the headlights and use your heat gun to further add heat to the outside housing. depending on your headlights, it could be very sticky adhesive and sometimes not much at all. Let me know how you make out!
Staggered Horizons i try a heat gun yesterday dint work it was pulling and melting the plastic casing so i got scared and i stop it was to much glue lol i gonna try the oven see if that work thanks for the quick reply 😅
@STAGGERED HORIZONS. I recently was extremely blessed to have come across & buy the cleanest, 1 owner, overly cared for, most well maintained a 06' LGT spec. b __#309 out of 500 (Baddest car I've owned, love it!!) Anyways I wanted to darken the head lights also, would u have any thought on or know anyone who has used the "LENS Darkening" paint they sell at Home Depot or Lowes?? Comes in a spray paint can. After watching ur video, seems it would be waaaaay easier just painting the lens. But I still want it to look legit. So IF need be, 🔥ill bake em'🔥I guess. Just dont want the LGT lookin cheezy.
Definitely dig the channel man. 💯✊🙏
Keep up the good work. Cool to see other Legacy enthusiasts....👍👍p
First off, Congrats on the Spec.B that’s awesome! Also thanks for stopping by and the kinds words. Just my opinion, I don’t really care for touching the lens on Headlights, which can affect the Lighting output driving at night and have also found it to look cleaner opening up headlights and painting inside parts, because the lens is still nice and clear but gives everything a dark/blacked out without touching the lens, just my 0.02 but you could totally use that to get a similar look. I haven’t had any experience painting the lens, but know a few people who have got them professionally done and they look really good. Hope that helps!
I may start making some headlights for a few people.
eyyyy, we follow each other on IG! I'm grown_sti with the 07 Spec B.
eyyyy gorgeous Spec.B ! Thanks for stopping by and checking out the channel :D
Do you mind doing this for my headlights? I'm 45 minutes away from u..?
of course man, DM me on Instagram @StaggeredHorizons
@Marcia Ducksworth 👏 good for ya
Did you try to take out the paint? Lol.
what?! lol
Staggered Horizons sorry I meant like...if you dont like the color anymore or whatever reasons, you can't take out the paint right? (Noobie status).
It would probably be easier to just sell them and buy used unpainted ones
Can I live with you and your parents? I'm bleeding money on rent and bills that I could have been applying to my truck.
McDonald’s or Taco Bell
hahaha don't eat at either, but thanks for watching! :D
4th gens have terrible headlights to begin with, dude just made them useless🤣
Stop moving
Dude, stand still...
