    If you chain 4 on your final row instead of 5 you'll get a flat edge that will match the other side. Like how you did a single crochet every 4 to begin with and create your first row.

    I want to say I am happy to see that a guy is giving the lesson. I say this for the reason that I am a guy who crochets and it is hard to find tools, lessons or anything for crochet that is male or unisex related. Most do not know or think that a large number of crocheters are male.
    Thank you.

      Actually I did not know lot of guy did crochet. I never see any males at the knitting circle (that is not just for Knitters).

      well unfortunately most males are hung up on what other males may think of them for doing what is thought of as anything not "manly" so those who do these things are less likely to make it well known.

    I got it to work with a foundation chain of 4+2. If you add 3 and then sc in 2nd chain from the hook you'll always end up with that extra chain. (Yes I know that the loop on the hook doesn't count.)
    I had to draw out the pattern to see that +3 was never going to work.

    This is exactly what I was looking for. I prefer to see the continuity of the piece by being shown twice in a row. It is easier to visualize that way. I don't need blow by blow of every stitch though, that would, of course, be too much.
    Thank you for the video

    (continued from my previous comment) So can you correct me if I'm wrong in what I've been doing which is: Chain 23 (20 is a multiple of 4, then +3=23), sc in the second chain from the hook, chain 5, skip 3 chains and sc in the 4th chain along, chain 5 and repeat to the end of the row which must end with a sc in the last chain.
    that is what I've been trying to do, but I cannot end on a sc as there is 1 extra chain? are you sure its not meant to be "chain multiples of 4 +2" instead?

      So I don't know if this is how you guys are doing it but the loop that is on the hook does not count as a stitch skip one chain work into the second, chain 5, skip 4 and at the end it'll be a single crochet in the last chain. Make sure you pull your chain because sometimes your stitches can hide behind previous stitches

    I was ttold 4 plus three means chain four then crochet 3 for the turning chain so it would be seven chain what i did was count 4 then 3 has many as needed hope that helps I am starting out but not crocheting i have done since 12 years old this work is harder i agree

  • @lucylulululu
    @lucylulululu 11 років тому +6

    that doesnt work for me. I chain 20 (a multiple of 4) and then add 3 (making it 23 chains) then I sc in the second ch from the hook and continued the first row as you directed...but I come to the end of row 1 and theres 1 chain remaining! I know its not me because I did it over and over again from the beginning and even used a different multiples of 4 (+3) but I still end up with 1 extra chain at the end of row 1? I don't understand this?

    For those who are having issues the loop on your hook doesnt count as a stitch. And if you pull your foundation chain as you go sometimes the stitches can hide behind the previous stitch you put in.

      You multiply by the first number, then add the second number at the end.
      So if you wanted to knit a scarf, it might be 5 multiples of 4 (20) then add 3 = 23 sts cast on.
      Does that make sense?
