Aw thank you so much for your support and encouragement man! That really means a lot to me! 😄 Ohh yeah, if you like the idea of a space shooter defender hybrid, you’d really enjoy X-Morph: Defense!
Fantastic video. You did a nice indepth review on this I have played this game before and pretty much everything you said was on point. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for your wonderful words of support and encouragement! I truly appreciate it. 😄 It’s awesome that you’ve played X-Morph: Defense and found my review to be on point!
That's awesome to hear that X-Morph: Defense is your kind of game! I sincerely hope you enjoy the game! Thank you so much for your appreciation and support man! :D
Hello mate, apologies I haven't been able to be as active in the last few months as usual, been so busy with the band but back on track now and always make time for a bit of a Panda binge ha. This definitely has taken a little influence of Future Cop LAPD in the tower defence section (defo check out the precinct assault mode!) Not a bad thing though, great to see a slicker version!
No worries my man! I know you’re a busy guy doing amazing work with your awesome band! I’m grateful to you taking the time to be so supportive! 😄 I didn’t even know about Future Cop LAPD, but I looked it up and definitely see the similarities. I like the futuristic setting in both. X-Morph: Defense even has mechs as well! I guess Earthlings have to protect their world from aliens somehow haha!
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! I truly appreciate it! X-Morph: Defense is definitely a good shoot ‘em up that just so happens to be mashed up with a fun tower defense game. If you get the game, I sincerely hope you enjoy it! 😄
I really like that X-Morph: Defense is a good genre mashup, and if you already love tower defense games, the shoot 'em up makes a great complement. I almost don't remember seeing the game shown off at a Nintendo Treehouse, and I can easily see this one being the gem that gets overlooked.
Thanks a lot man! I really appreciate it! 😄 Yeah, I feel like another game could have had it the other way around with players being the humans and defending Earth, but this role reversal makes X-Morph: Defense slightly cooler hahaha ;)
Great review! Personally, I'm not a fan of either tower defense or shooters, so I don't see myself playing X-Morph: Defense anytime soon. I like that it's a hybrid game, though. And I really like the twist that you get to be the alien invaders and take over the world! It's a refreshing spin on a cliche concept. I can be like Pinky and the Brain! And the two phases of building and shooting seem to complement each other well. The caricatured voices made me feel like I was on a theme park ride or playing an arcade game, but they fit the mood haha. I hope those humans took you to their leader! :P
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! :D Yeah, if you were at least a fan of either tower defense or shoot 'em ups, you could enjoy X-Morph: Defense, but not if you don't like either. I like the genres, and I found the blended gameplay to be very clever and effective. I never felt like I was waiting around for towers, and the fact that I could build them during the combat segments was actually really exciting. It's like a real-time strategy game or some kind of combat chess! And hahaha, yes, Pinky and the Brain was what I was going for, but I'm no Maurice LaMarche hahaha. He's the true Brain! Also, I don't think I gave the humans a chance to take me to their leader. Fine by me. :)
Thank you so much for your kind words! I truly appreciate your support as always! :D I agree with you. X-Morph: Defense looks so much greater than I was expecting for a tower defense game on the Switch!
Great Review Mr.Panda!! This seems like an intriguing game with the nice blend of genre's, making the ship invisible to set up towers was sick, seems like a vital tool to have for strategic defense! I guess the big draw-back for me is this is very arcade like with the game being based around trying to top your high score, I feel for myself that would get stale after awhile. But based on what the game was aiming for it executed well!
Thank you so much Koolaid! I truly appreciate your kind words and support man! :D I really like the premise of X-Morph: Defense and its clever combination of the tower defense and shoot 'em up genres. It's very much arcade-like, and even the voice acting sounds like what I would hear from modern arcade cabinets. The concept grows stale, and even the story mode, which has the primary focus of campaign completion, grows old. The game doesn't evolve too much aside from the awesome mecha bosses. As a real-time strategy game, the maps are solid, though, and the execution is pretty fun! I just wish there were a little more to it.
Once again, you absolutely nailed my own thoughts on this game. It's good for a few missions but then it starts to feel exactly the same and loses a lot of its momentum. By the third mission, I'd seen pretty much all enemy types and unlocked enough tools to be able to handle them. Adding in the co-op mode would have been a huge lift, and also for score chasers having no leaderboards really diminishes the drive. It's a game that I feel had a lot of potential and is not bad by any means, but misses a few big opportunities to shine.
That's absolutely awesome to hear you share my thoughts on X-Morph: Defense man! I love the game's concept so much. It's genius to combine the tower defense and shoot 'em up genres, but the game's excitement factor wanes as the game continues. The exception, of course, is the super cool giant robot mech bosses. Leaderboards would have have been fantastic for high score sharing, as would the missing co-op mode. It's as you say, there was more potential, but ultimately missed opportunities, which is a shame.
@@MrPanda2002 More of those mech bosses would have done nicely as well! I went in thinking you'd get them every level but they are actually few and far between.
I like that you get to play twin stick style, that's a cool take on the tower defence genre. However I find that games like this always fail to deliver long lasting fun, like you said with replayability etc. I sometimes think it's better to have shorter levels and have the game done in a quicker time than try to pad it out and have the levels take 30+ mins. I think if this is on a crazy Steam sale, I might pick it up but I don't see it dropping price enough for me to pick up on the Switch. Great review as always Mr Panda, almost at 1,000 subs!!!!
Thank you so much for your wonderful words of support! Yes! Almost at 1,000 subs!! I'm excited! :D X-Morph: Defense and other tower defense games are fun, and I'm usually down to play the genre for a little while. But yeah, it gets old after a while. The twin-stick shoot 'em up and giant mecha bosses did keep me engaged throughout, but I still felt the concept wearing thin midway. I completely agree with you that shorter levels would have probably helped, especially given the Switch's portability and the genre's repetitiveness. I believe the game is starting out with a 20% sale on Switch (both the base game and the "Complete Edition" with DLC), but whether that price drop is enough to justify a whole game with this playstyle is completely up to you!
@@MrPanda2002Yeah I think it's like a £10 or less game for me (as I don't think I'd stick with it all the way through), it's £15 currently with the discount in the UK eShop.
Yeah, I definitely hear you with that price threshold. I think it's good for X-Morph: Defense to have that discount on the Switch eShop at launch, but that price may still not be low enough to justify a purchase for plenty of people. I know I paid nowhere near that price for Plants vs. Zombies. Then again, that game didn't have spaceship shooter segments. (but maybe it should have hahaha!)
This is a cool premise, that I could also see wearing thin after a while (a la Rampage.) It's also odd that there's no co-op on the Switch. This seems like a fun time waster, and something that lends itself more to portable gaming than anything else. Plus, it's the closest thing to a Kang and Kodos game that we're ever going to get.
Hahahaha, this is the Kang and Kodos game we've always deserved. One of the stages should have just had people attacking the aliens with boards with nails. "That board with a nail in it may have defeated us, but the humans won't stop there. They'll make bigger boards and bigger nails. Soon they'll make a board with a nail so big it will destroy them all!" Seriously though, X-Morph: Defense is definitely a fun time-waster and you still get the enjoyment of destroying buildings like in Rampage. I wish the co-op was intact, though.
Aww thank you so much for your kind words and for subbing! That truly means a lot to me!! :D It's awesome to hear that you agree with me about X-Morph: Defense!
Aww yeah!! To 1,000 subs! We’re not sure yet what we’re gonna do for our thank you video, but I’ll definitely be doing something. We’d love to show off more plushies haha! 😄
Yeah, I love how many games the Nintendo Switch has from the big first party hits like Super Mario Odyssey to indie gems like X-Morph: Defense. The winning combo of portability and so many great games works so well for the Switch. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Yeah, the Switch version of X-Morph: Defense does not have the 2-player splitscreen co-op. :/ It's really unfortunate because that mode would have been really fun for us. Perhaps multiplayer could be added at some point? I was looking all over for it, too, and I seriously thought I was just missing something.

Space shooter defender? Right up my alley since second 2. Amazing find man! Looking forward to your next one!

Now this game has my 3 favourite things. 2 of my favourite genres combined and high score chasing. Buy... no question.
Ooooh yeah, wow, X-Morph: Defense is perfect for you! I hope you have an awesome time with the game!
X Morph looks like my kind of game I'm gonna definitely buy it, Thanx for reviewing this man....

Yup! It's also why I kind of like playing as villains in all the Mario Party and sports games, and Super Smash Bros. haha!

Jace Glover For real! I thought there would be an awesome new mech boss at the end of every level, but it’s more like only in half of them if even.
