I can't wait to retire in the Philippines because life for me is much netter there. I won't have to pay any rent and the only thing that I'm thinking about doing is going solar so that I can save on electricity in our house. With rent being that high in major US cities it makes life very difficult to survive but in the Philippines you can live life like the rich do in the US. Well maybe not as good as the rich but life would be very nice living off of 4k USD a month in the Philippines. I like the province life over the city life because things are cheaper. Yes things are more convenient than in the province but that's fine with me.

Solar is a joke in the Philippines. We did it and a complete waste of money. With substandard inverters, controllers and labor cost, be very careful. I'm now just using Meralco with a voltage regulator and energy efficient appliances.

I paid $3,200 a month in Bethesda Maryland, but i didn't have flies and mosquitoes inside my condo even while always having the windows closed, constant construction on the same floor and above me despite living in three different premier condos in Cebu.
Also everywhere else i've lived in the world i'm able to go outside anytime of the day or year and get some exercising in.
Here in cebu between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. it's way too hot to even walk outside for more than 15 minutes.
I love the social and dating environment here (and in this regard i really do live like a king) don't get me wrong but sometimes there is a reason things are more expensive.
I favor the trifecta or quad factor approach where you have multiple homes around the world.
The lack of an active lifestyle and low quality food in the philippines is a big down.

I will also add that it took 4 months of extensive searching in Cebu to find a condo with decent enough internet (> 300mbps) and again it's not stable (the philippines still has the worst internet in Asia).
People need to understand that you will make concessions and sometimes there is a reason why places are cheaper.

@mikefranks4528 I don't need to know that person to know he has no medical coverage in the Philippines. Unless you're a citizen, they're not covered except if he buys private medical insurance which will cost him around $3000. I have a residence in BGC and travel to the country on business frequently. I do have family in Manila. BTW, what coverage at MS? He left his supposed $12k/month job and relies on his army pension of $2600. Don’t disrespect Seattle! Life is great here… Sure we’ve got some cloudy days, but it just makes us appreciate the sunny ones all the more. And we don’t get as much rain as everyone thinks we do. And with climate change… This is going to be a great place to live. While the rest of the country is sweltering, or having snowstorms, and wildfires and windstorms and hailstorms, we’ve got a nice temperate climate. And one more thing… We have the fourth highest Filipino population in the United States.😊 OK, my rant is over!😊

Evan, there are two good impediments to living in the Philippines: a) the Philippines government has put the country into the dangerous nexus of a war between the US and China; b) the intense heat and humidity as in much of Asia makes it very difficult for so many of us to adjust to life in a place like the Philippines.

"How are you liking it so far". This is a biased question that forces the person answering to agree with the preconceived notion that they are liking something when it could be the complete opposite or just somewhat true.
