- Dash cluster was working fine for about 2 hours after a full rebuild and now seems to have developed a bit of an issue. It isn't the power supply because i have tested 2 known good ones.
The issue is a poor connection between upper and lower boards, and in this instance it was one of the data lines.
This is why i now run them for a few hours on the bench before i consider them repaired!! - Ігри
I ordered a refurbished cluster for my 84 and when i plug it in and turn key on i have nothing iit wont light up only thing working is turn signals
Bad connection somewhere, who rebuilt it?
@@CaseTheCorvetteMan I got it from Gary's Corvette 's they are out of Texas
@@michaelseay7513 i've never heard of them. I get all my parts for the rebuilds from Batee
I have an ‘85 doing the same thing! Going to try and clean contacts…. What did you do with yours? 👍🙋♂️🖖🏻
This wasn't mine, i repair lots of them.
It was bad solder joints on the connector that goes between the two boards.
If it flashes and resets it'll be more than just the ground pin.
@@CaseTheCorvetteManmine does the turn signal thing only, if I use my turn signal the whole dash flashes.
@@gabelofi you have a bad connection inside the cluster somewhere, and it could be a few of them on that connector between the two boards.
My '84 does this, it works fine when its idleing, but when i rev it a little it does that and/or shuts off, any tips?
Yep, the connection between the two boards inside the cluster has bad solder joints, need to repair them and it'll work.
Thanks! I'll see if I can crack it open today and maybe try to fix it
@@CaseTheCorvetteMan any pointers on how I would fix the solder?
@@C4_Corvette Need a high powered soldering iron capable of at least 350* C and you will need some flux core solder. Sort of need to have a good idea on how to solder, probably not a job you should do if you can't.
My gauge cluster randomly flashes/resets. Sometimes it will come back on and be fine, other times it shuts off indefinitely, what does this mean?
Bad connections between the two boards inside. Bad solder joints is common.
@@CaseTheCorvetteMan thanks for the quick response! how would I go about fixing something like this?
@@teamairsoft1005 open it up and carefully remove the top board, check all the connections, the outer most pin is the ground pin, and you can solder a wire from the last pin to the track which corrects most issues.
