Hi Brian I have recently purchased a 1988 C4 Corvette and of course it's old and there's a lot of minor repairs that need to be made, my first concern is with the cluster panel and when it's on and working it's absolutely perfect except when I hit a bump it turns off and on intermittently ,while watching some of your videos on troubleshooting my best guess would be that there's a loose connection, so my question is what is the most common area that you're finding this problem with a bad connection or bad solder joint those kind of things, I am a technician with experience on Hi-Tech computer controlled machinery although I have no formal electronic repair education just troubleshooting and replace, I'm pretty confident in making the repairs myself I thought with all of your experience with this issue which seems to be one of the most common issues I'm sure your finding the most common causes would be ----------- ? Where you're finding the two or three Main issues are???? Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated Thank you in advance
Also I want to put a 4link amd my drag motor in it what wires to what gouges if I cut the plugs and make my own speedo oil and water and tach amp also thats all I want and need would be nice to just take a peice of sheetmetal amd put round aftermarket gauges in it it's going to be a race car eventually but driven on the street until I get it all done it runs drives it over heated and now I can't see temp and radio gone any help please and thanks
Im trying to fix one for a friend of mine and the backlight is not working. If i inject on the dimmer pin some volts then it starts and the dimming works good. Any thoughts?
Brian, I have an 87 with peculiar issue. The right side of my cluster is dim and the left side is bright. I don’t have any fading or backing separation. Wondering if it could just be bulbs? Also I have intermittent flickering with lights on or off. Wondering what you think my problem is. I’m thinking power supply.
My 84 starts out fine for about ten min--then it goes to a mode of both turn signals and the bright lights indicator are frozen on, while everything else is practically off. Sometimes it may come back to proper operation after a long while, or in a rare occasion a big bump, but mostly it stays in that mode.
Mine is doing the exact same thing. I'm thinking there's some kind of fuse blown somewhere or a bad ground. My 85 is temperamental I swear there's a gremlin in the electrical system.
@@derekenlow7607bad ground I think...I dealt with that many years ago ...run a wire from your brake pedal metal area under The dash to the ground in the cluster wire harness ground
Mine is flickering why is that happening it is from Arizona but I'm in Washington so is it that or a starter wire is kinda ghettofied but it flickers at first but doesn't barley do anything now prices flicker in amd out
My 84 cluster has a tach lighting issue. When it’s cold, the numbers from 0-40 don’t light up. As the car warms up they start to flicker. Once warmed up, they stay lit. Could this be a dirty bulb contact, or am I in for a major overhaul? The car has 36,000 miles on it, and has always been garaged.
Is the issue that the LCD segments aren't turning on, or is it that the illumination bulb in that corner isn't lighting? You might need to take off the trim and check all four bulbs (under the silver covers).
@@crazyuncleburton it’s the numbers going up the tach ramp. 0-10-20-30-40 do not light up steady until the car is warmed up, or the weather outside is warm.
Bryan, I just got my film for my 3 panel, do I really need to take out the entire dash to get to those?
Is your repair service for these still available? I'd rather have a professional repair my gauges than to try and do it myself

12 pin backlight connector is #1. Power supply is my next suspect.

It's power supply Right??
Do you have time use polarized panel or can I put a clear so I see clearer in daylite? Is it hard to replace .I just got my 86vette.
Hey man
So how much to fresh one up

They flicker on and off till they’re happy. Lol
@@FranksModelAviationWorkshop I believe it is either a bad 12 pin connector set, or broken solder joint on this connector.
If all the other data is correct while 0-40 is flashing, we may have a bad LCD driver IC
mayne read 17 volt when its only 14 volt
The power supply output voltage is too low. It is the reference voltage for the volts measurement. Replace the power supply.
