    LGA1150 is retro now? Damn, my desktop is still AM3 with phenom II x6 cpu, and im not planning to upgrade it any time soon.

    • @TheRailroad99
      @TheRailroad99 4 роки тому +19

      I would not say it's retro. But this board is still very rare, as all testing boards are.
      For me " retro" computing begins a few years after the item has become obsolete. Pentium 4 stuff (early to mid 2000s) could now be called retro. However even socket 775 is still sort of relevant. A core 2 duo (and especially Quad) can still be used as a daily driver for most business tasks.

    • @jefftan9800

      Still rocking with my Core 2 duo. 🤙

      still on AM3? why?

    • @TheRailroad99
      @TheRailroad99 4 роки тому +5

      @@AeroFix94 AM3 is fine, especially the 6 core phenoms still have some life left after 10+ years. When clocked to 3.6Ghz, and a nice HT/Northbridge overclock they can even play modern games. They definitely start to struggle, also because the miss SSE4.1, but right now they are still usable.
      However for gaming that won't last long anymore, time to upgrade sooner or later.

    • @fradd182
      @fradd182 4 роки тому +5

      @@AeroFix94 Well, with 6 cores at 3.5Ghz, with 32GB of RAM and SSD, it works smoothly with anything i throw at it. But im not a gamer.

    Q87 chipset is definitely not on the market. Mostly made for businesses. Though, that board had more overclocking settings in it than a ASUS Rampage Extreme. I still have a ASRock z77 Extreme4, 16GB's of 2400MHz DDR3 with a delided and liquid metal i7 3770K clocked to 5GHz and a eVGA RTX 2060 3slot Phatty. It can still hang with most 7700K's clocked to 4.5GHz. Not to bad for a 7to8 year old set up and upgraded GPU. I upgraded to that from a eVGA 680i SLi rev.2 board and a 4GHz Q6600 GO. That chip gets a 400cb in CB R15. I bought that Q6600 GO in 2007-2008. I can't believe it took intel so long to add more cores to there CPU's. When the 8700K and 9900K was released, i found a couple open box deals with some motherboards and build a new Gaming and Streaming/editing setup. I had a Ryzen 7 1700X because i thought 8cores and 16threads would be future proof. But when i got the PC setup, it ran noticeably slower than my overclocked 3770K. I wish i would've held on to my x370 Taichi board. ASRock just dropped a new agesia BIOS update for there X3 series of motherboards. Now they can run the 16core 32thread 3950X. Being that Zen2 has passed intel in iPC, i wouldn't hesitate one bit to upgrade to Ryzen. I have a feeling when Alder Lake drops with its Golden Cove architecture. intel might have another Sandy Bridge chip. So I might have to wait a couple more years.

    would love to see a video on LGA1155. It's my personal favorite because of the legendary i7 2600k. I had that CPU for solid 9 years. I'm not sure if it's retro already :)

  • @ratcatcher4804

    That is cool. Why the mix of caps? There's Nichicon, Panasonic, Sanyo and questionable Samxon. It's probably set up that way to see how stable it will preform so an easy recap can be done. That bios has an option for everything.

    It’s not very strong and RETRO, I have RETRO LGA1155 (on Z77 chipset) and I5 3470 and I’m not going to change it yet.

      The Athlon II x4 series was a budget processor though so not surprising really, it competed against stuff like the core 2 quad q8400 & similar most likely a year or so later at a much lower cost in 2010 then late gen socket 775 motherboards with ddr3.
