This was a great video. Super clear and simple with good angles too. I did my rears without the scanner, it was a terrible experience lol and I had replace a sensor.
Great video! Good to see a someone as meticulous with a clean car as myself. Love my 2020 Type R and considering a brake pad with less brake dust too. Any follow up after a few hundred miles would be great!
If my memory serves me correctly. Once you put it in service mode you can turn the car off. You’ll need to take the brakes out of service mode before you can drive it
Yeah, you can reset or enable the parking brake after swapping out the pads Took I used is just a pin tool used for punching calipers pins for most brembo brakes amzn.to/3OEmV0k
@@eddiemcars thx Man. It’s really helpful to me. Also wondering any obd scanner(or what kind the scanner) will does the reset job when we after finished the pads changed?
did the same install and i’m having the very very annoying squeak on the rear pads not sure why. Maybe it’s because the oem pad had some sort of adhesive to the caliper and the akebono dont? please let me know if you had this issue

Great content and binging lots of your uploads. Honorable mention to Carbotech pads as they are pricey but much better bite and less dusting than even the Akebonos. Lots of good info out there on them for your next change in a few years. Just a thought, Cheers and Regards!
Hello I am doing my first ever brake pad change. Mine are very used and grinding. Do I need the compression tool or can I use my hands like you did and pull?
Compression tool is easier but you may be able to use your hands or carefully use a flat head screw driver covered with a towel so you don’t chip the paint on your caliper.
@@eddiemcars awesome. Thank you! Your video made it look so easy. I also ordered a brembo pin and an Autel scanner to put the e brake in maintenance mode. I will follow your video step by step and come back here letting you know how well it worked for me!!!
@@eddiemcarshello just letting you know the job is finished much thanks to your easy to follow video. My buddy had to come and help me with the rear brakes, I used the scanner for the electric brake maintenance mode but the piston was way too tight for the new pads. So he brought a tool that squeezed the piston back into place! So far so good. I Do have a question though. Do I have to bleed the rear brakes now since we took the caliper off like in your video?
No. It's a closed system for a brake pad swap. You should only bleed if you open the bleeder valve or replacing a brake line or caliper. Even if you open bleeder valve by accident because air is introduced in the system.
@@eddiemcars thank you for clearing that up for me!! i just bought my type r a month ago and i want to make sure. do you have any good service/repair manual recommendations so i can attempt to do any maintenance on my vehicle?
That will MIGHT work but at risk of damaging the actuator. I’ve heard a few people doing it this way and ended up having to visit Honda for replacement after losing rear parking brake and having a bunch of malfunction lights in the dash
Bro you forgot one important thing, after hitting the pin’s in your supposed to pull on them and say “yeah they ain’t going anywhere” or else your anger the gods !!
one of the best DIY. Clear and short explanation, good camera angle, and simple. Thanks
Glad you liked it
Thank you for uploading this. Its very clear and informative. This helped me doing it with the FL5
one of the better videos shown doing this. Need to do the rears myself

Uh oh. Hopefully not too bad!
I did it without the scanner and worked out just fine just keep hand break off and do not turn on car PERIOD
I did this without scanner also and my brake light came on so I’m dealing with that today 😂

just did this job on my buddies car, there is a way without an obd2 device, i manually did it for the rear calipers, great video btw
How?

I didn't catch where you ordered these from, can you please let me know, thank you for the walkthrough.

No, I don’t have Hondata.
Can BimmerCode code fog lights to stay on with full beams but go out with dipped beams.
Fog lights on X5 F15
You want fog lights to activate with the high beam? I think the best way is have fog with high beam coding and turn on the fog lights as needed.
Do you have to remove the brake master cylinder cap while compressing the piston on the caliper?
It’s not required but good practice. Since the pads have very little miles on them there was hardly any room to push back the pistons.
@@eddiemcars I appreciate your response ,my rear pads are worn out at 21k miles.
No grease?
For where?

My front Akebono’s are great but the rears are still dusting more than I would like.
I'm looking at the carbotechs now. Just not sure if $430 is worth it. The hawk Hawk performance ceramics are like $180 right now front and rear.

My pistons aren't budging

Yes. It's required for electronic e-brake. I used a Foxwell

@@adamr7172 You dont have to bleed the breaks after chaning pads. only if the brake pedal is squishy or you are doing a brake fluid flush
Did you compress the piston ? Or the service mode does that for you
The service mode only disengages the electronics so piston can be retracted without damage.
How are the brake pads holding up? Looking to getting these for my type r as well
Type r wheel torque is 94 ft lbs.
You are correct. I read the wrong section. 🤦🏽♂️

It’s the NT530
I had to buy the Honda/Acura license as extra thought. On Amazon you can get some already pre loaded

do you leave the obd2 scanner plugged in and on while you are doing the rear pads?
I can’t recall if I left it on but it was plugged in. I want to be able to take the parking brake out of service mode.

Which country …. ?
Did you fluid fill nesr the top after you changed brakes?
No need.
Fluid doesn’t evaporate and since it’s a closed system the fluid from the pistons got pushed back into the reservoir

Why do the rear pads wear out so fast 😭
I think it’s because of the VSA. It working in the background. Really not 100% sure. Had a Acura TL the ran through more rear brakes than fronts.

What rotors do you have on them? I have 2019 and those look like you can resurface them
These are probably stock rotors. The 2020 refresh uses different rotors from the 2017-2019 models.
