Toncontín International Airport or Teniente Coronel Hernán Acosta Mejía Airport is a civil and military airport located 6 km (4 mi) from the centre of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The History Channel programme Most Extreme Airports ranks it as the second most extreme airport in the world. The approach to the airport is considered to be one of the most difficult in the world to all aircraft, especially in inclement weather conditions

Lot of people think we in the Caribbean are part of south America as well. I think a lot of people just think North America is just the USA and Canada.
@orbit funez if you use the model of continents that has the americas as one, yea they are just regions. But if you use the model that separates the two, North America is USA, Canada, Greenland, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Either way if defining it is completely valid depending on the model used where you live. However saying Central America or the Caribbean is a part of South America isn’t correct in any continent model.

Hey Swiss, I'm for Tegucigalpa City were Toncontin is located. The experience of landing on Toncontin is unique. The pilot has to do a difficult approach and when landing he has to stop very quickly. Years ago, a Taca Air aircraft crash at the end of runway 02 when landing. Also for a airplane to land correctly it has to land before the double lines on runway 02. The new airport is located on Comaguela is known as Palmerola.

It’s really cool watching being from Honduras. I’ve landed in Toncontin many times and although I know how dangerous it is, I enjoy the adrenaline. Anyways, if you wanna go to Honduras and don’t want to land in toncontin you can also fly to MHLM or Roatan airport.

I live in Tegucigalpa, airport I use every now and then. It ain't that bad. I actually used to work at the airport. Honestly is quite a ride but it isn't that crazy. Just for the record Honduras is located in Cental America and not South.

Old Quito's International Airport was 9.228 above sea level and it was in the middle of the city, near Pichincha volcano and many other mountains in the Andes.

I flown into and out of here before an a United Airlines B-757 from Houston, TX. It was quite turbulent down low, and the aircraft made a lot turns prior to touchdown. The takeoff seemed unremarkable though, we just climbed rapidly above the surrounding terrain, which is actually not all that high. The flight attendants told us that the Captain has to have a special authorization earned
from a previous flight into here with a training Captain.

Also, in the old days. They use the "seen and be seen" method. Because back in the day, (in the 50's for example) radar was not yet a thing which means that you have to look for planes in the air which make things a lot harder. That's why radar was introduced.

I live in Honduras Tegucigalpa and ive seen how the approach and landing of the planes is and as I hear there are 3 landmarks to make the correct approach 1 is a radio toqer another is a pool and the third is a popeyes chicken restaurant if you dont make the approach the control tower authorizes you to land the plane the other way so that you aint facing the mountain and the cliff you see in the video also thats a reason of toncontin being so dangerous
