  • Are you an expectant parent planning to deliver at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC)? If so, a virtual walking tour of the hospital is now available on UA-cam to help you navigate your way around the facility. This tour provides valuable information about parking, the OB maternity entrance, the Parent Connection office, and much more.
Upon arriving at the hospital's main gates on Charles Street, you will bear left and follow the signs towards the emergency department. The OB maternity entrance is the second entrance on the right, and valet service is available from Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., with a $5 cash fee. If you prefer not to use the valet service, you can park your car at the Lillie Park garage, which is the closest parking garage to the OB entrance. After parking, you can cross the road and follow the sidewalk back down and around to the entrance.
The second floor of the hospital is dedicated to obstetrics and is a lockdown-secured environment with keycard access only to labor and delivery and postpartum units. The Parent Connection office, located in the OB atrium, is open to patients and visitors, providing a lactation lounge for parents to feed their babies, a beautiful boutique with nursing bras, care items for mom and baby, as well as adorable gift options. GBMC also hosts various parent education classes, including preparation for childbirth, breastfeeding, infant care, infant CPR, and cesarean preparation, as well as yoga classes and support groups for moms before and after delivery.
When you arrive, go to the OB admitting desk to check in. If you are pre-registered, your information will already be in the hospital's database, but if you're not, an online pre-registration form is available on the GBMC website. After being checked in, a nurse will take you to an assessment triage room or to a labor and delivery room for a scheduled procedure.
Each labor room has a flat-screen TV, telephone, and a private bathroom with shower. Patients are encouraged to make themselves comfortable by adjusting the thermostat, lighting, and shades. They can also bring in their favorite pillow, music player, plug-in scent diffuser, or battery-operated candles. All in-room monitors are centrally monitored at the nurse's station.
GBMC's Level 3 NICU, located on the third floor, has 13 family-centered rooms. If your baby needs additional attention after birth, your partner can accompany the baby to the NICU.
In conclusion, GBMC's virtual walking tour provides expectant parents with valuable information and guidance on what to expect during their stay at the hospital. With this knowledge, parents can arrive at the hospital with confidence and focus on what's most important, welcoming their new bundle of joy into the world.
