    The thing about this situation is that if it happened to some random person, it would be hard to say that they have changed just due to the fact that it has been 6 years.....but with Avo we have been able to witness his growth and see how he’s changed as a person with things such as ruin an hour and plenty of things he’s done for the culture. If you think otherwise and want him gone, then you’re not wrong because that’s your opinion and you have the right to believe whatever you want. Personally, Avo has helped me with personal things in my life and I believe he is not that person we saw in the video.

    If we are going to take people who were once racist but no longer are, and tell them they're racist forever, then racist people will never have an incentive to change their ways.

      You know what abandoning systemic racism means for white people? It means giving up privilege. That privilege may be the difference between having a job and not having one. So yes, it does require incentive, even if it is clearly, no debate, the right thing to do.

    • @nybxcrotona
      @nybxcrotona 4 роки тому +6

      @@origamibulldoser1618 It's basic psychology, I think. To change a bad habit, you need to replace with something else, and you need incentive to ensure it sticks. So whether it's swearing less in casual conversation, to not being racist, you have to at least be able to point out "the good ones" and ensure those good behaviors are shown and emphasized to be acceptable.

    This discussion is really helpfull for people like me ( from Romania, Europe ) that never realised were racist or how many forms racism can have, because we have never really been exposed to too many people of color. Racism in my country is normalised against gypsies for example.
    This conversation was really eye opening and made me challenge lots of the stereotypes In my country and i am definitely looking to self educate more now.
    Big shout out to Rx, Geechi,Pass for taking time to educate us and also to Avo for being willing to be put in the line of fire and taking all that hear for the greater good imo.

      I am the same from Romania and I was same like you racist against gypsies. But I was like this because I was listening Parazitii and agreeing with Cheloo when he was raping his verse and always beeing against gypsies but this was years ago when I was young and without no leadership but now when a grew up I can say that I accept them and understand their culture and now I can say that I love them and their music, I m not talking about manele. The second I saw the video and saw how physically different he was, I knew this was something from the past. I compared it to what I've seen as of late, including the Twork marathon, which was cool as a part of this culture and as a Human. If I had everything held over me I've done, I'd still be that same person and I'm sure many can say the same. It wasn't his finest hour, but personally in my book I won't make it his last.

    I’m still not mad at Avo. He’s been a different man the past 6 years. While it was uncomfortable to watch, I put more stock in what a person has been consistently doing as opposed to an isolated incident from their past. I can’t hold that against him. And the primary difference I’ve seen between Avo and others who’ve had situations like this is he has taken full accountability. How many white man who’ve made racist comments have ever sat in a room with 3 black people and taken every bit of the criticism and questions the sent his way? They pulled no punches and Avo gave no excuses. That’s just my take tho.

    • @jjf77able
      @jjf77able 4 роки тому +1

      Not really. They can’t have genuine conversations, because if he said something that they didn’t like it would be a problem. The only way this would’ve been productive is if everyone can say what they wanted without the fear of what people think.
      If avocado didn’t say he has privilege and overall kiss black peoples ass then people would cancel him. So it changes nothing. When he goes home he’s still going to think the same way behind closed doors because he couldn’t have a genuine convo and get everything he wanted to say off.
      When Rx asked him since he only knows 2 Black people how would he know about black fatherhood, the real response would be from stereotypes, internet, and statistics. But he had to say some bullshit because he had to think how would people perceive these statements.

    • @highlight915
      @highlight915 4 роки тому +2

      @@jjf77able The convo wasn't just for Avocado. It was for all white people to think about the stereotypes they make fun of and how deep rooted they are.

    • @jjf77able
      @jjf77able 4 роки тому +1

      Leroy Peeples True. I’m just saying there won’t be any real change until they can tell people exactly how they feel without backlash.
      Even if Avo genuinely hated Black people. Or genuinely thinks they are crappy fathers, he’d never me able to say it here. Because the culture would immediately cancel him. Which refrains from any genuine conversation.
      If Avo straight up said “Yeah I think black fathers aren’t good because ______” everyone would lose their shit on him. So since he can’t openly say that, or how he genuinely feels about Black people, it’s still in the back of his mind, and there were no discussion to convince him why his thought process was incorrect because the convo was never had.

    • @highlight915
      @highlight915 4 роки тому +2

      @@jjf77able Again, that wasn't the purpose. It was to explain why that behavior isn't tolerated. The white perspective is inherently rooted in racism due to this country's origin. Stop caping for him. And if you're white, leave this convo alone.

    • @jjf77able
      @jjf77able 4 роки тому +1

      Leroy Peeples I don’t care for anyone. And stop with identity politics. I’m an adult that has my own thought process. I don’t have to abide by anyone else’s thoughts because we share skin color.
      If you learn how to actually read I don’t care for avocado. I’m just saying this entire video was pointless since there’s no genuine conversation going on here. They have to ask questions that don’t make it look like they’re on his side, because they’ll be called uncle toms. And Avo has to answer questions to kiss ass, because he’d get cancelled otherwise. That was my point.
      And I don’t want to hear your thoughts on racism. Assuming you’re a grown man: Stop being a bitch and do something about your life. Stop bitching to white people or about racism. No one cares. Only 2020 where grown black men cry about racism.

That in itself is enough for me. Avocado and ruin your day has been a big part of my journey to healing and growing as well. I relate to change, and not being the person I was 5 years ago. I personally forgive Avocados and want to see him grow more as a person all we can do is be a better person than yesterday. I accept his apology though I’m Native American I’ve experienced a lot worse in person. Avocado faced the music and I feel he’s genuinely sorry and I truly do believe he’s a different person today. It’s a bad timing for a 6 year old video, involving a guy who’s earned his stripes big-time in a culture he’s a guest in, to pop up again and discredit him this way.
    Yes, the vibe from the video was bad.
    Yes, Kyle apologized and realizes the mistakes he’s made.
    Makes one wonder if this video would have come up if:
    a. George Floyd’s death/murder didn’t happen.
    b. The world wasn’t on fire due to COVID and BLM protests/riots.
    c. Last but not least, Kyle didn’t speak up against Caffeine.

    Black people as a whole we have a deep inherited trait of forgiveness. I, personally, would never want to be judged on my past transgressions. I strongly disagree with the notion that "this" is how white people are behind closed doors. Let's not forget that Harriet Tubman had a lot of white people help the underground slaves she moved from state-to-state. White people marched with MLKjr and today white people and many other races have been apart of the BLM movement worldwide because they see injustice of black people. Avocado should not be canceled or stopped being apart of the culture he has adapted to. Let's stop saying "guest in hi hop" like there were no white people in hip hop in the 80s... This is a good conversation to have. I'm similar to Avo, similar age and similar background (although I'm from the UK) in terms of growing up going to a largely white school - maybe two Black kids. I had groups of friends who were pretty toxic (looking back at it now), they regularly made racist and sexist jokes. I called them out a few times in recent years and got a lot of aggression back. In the end I cut them out. Hopefully we can all grow and change.
    The world has moved on a lot in the last few years, #metoo and #timesup, climate change, Black Lives Matter. Even in battle rap, battlers are coming out as bisexual and gay. I can't imagine that would have been accepted a couple of years ago. Change is good, progressing is good. Otherwise the sub culture dies.

Avo was not living where he grew up and was surrounded by people of colour and knew better. Shout outs to the caller from Colorado, asking some key questions that the panel (friends of avo) were never going to ask.

      I gotta disagree. I know ppl right now who are mid-20s and gay. Raised by homophobic parents. Once they learned THEIR kid was gay, eventually they realized the views they held were wrong. His parents are around 50 years old.
      Do you think drug addicts can't get sober at 30? Let's say some dude is a hardened gangbanger with multiple bodies to his name, but one day he has a kid and realizes "damn, every person I killed was someone's child", then changes his life.
      Some ppl def do fake change but age has nothing to do with it. I converted my racist grandmother who is 70 and this is all FACTS. She believed all the media bullshit about y'all until I made an effort to change her. I showed her she was wrong and she's a better person. Not one word of this is an exaggeration.

      I mean I agree with a lot of what B dot said, but that point is kind of silly imo. An ideology that is that inherently engrained into his lineage is going to take more than just moving into an area with more people of color for it to be changed in his mind. It takes time, experience, and most importantly, _willingness_ .
      If yall really subscribe to that idea that there is an age threshold for when it's acceptable to shame someone for their mistakes such as these, then wouldn't it make more sense to embrace the change that people like avo have made at their age? Since the basis of your belief is that people should "know better" by that age, it should be harder for people his age to make those changes mentally right? Yet here he is striving to make those changes of what is inherent to him as a white man who was raised among other whites with racist ideologies.

      @@NoName-cz3wn I never said that people cant change. What I did say was that there is a lot of holes in what he is saying and this should be addressed. As hes doing panels with his friends, these issues are not being addressed, which actually hurts avo. We dont need to compare this to drug addicts, gang banging or anything else, let's stick to what it is. He was in the culture for several years and there was no indication of him being racist. He was also publicly friends with various African American battle rappers. He was then filmed laughing and contributing to racist comments. The footage actually came out years ago, which is why 24/7 quit battle rap, but people seem to forget this, including avo apparently. We are now in a situation where some people are saying that over the last 6 years there is no evidence of him being racist, he has African american friends etc. Again, this was also the case when he was filmed making the above comments, so it's a really poor defence. The point is that nobody but avo knows if he has changed. BUT if he is going to try and convince people that he has, sitting with friends who are going to avoid properly dealing with some of the obvious questions is not going to help avo at all.

    It disappoints me everybody throws 24/7 under the bus like that. He didn't and doesn't think black men are bad fathers. He made that joke, obviously aware of the fact it was based on a racist stereotype. That's why he even went further with the 'based on race'-joke. He wouldn't say that if he really believes that. Saying something you should not say was the fun of it (A lot of battle rap lines are based on this, actually, especially in the Grind Time era). His intention was not racist at all.

    Avo, what you did was screwed up, and you was wrong, but I don't think you are that person that you were 6 years ago. Your apology seems to be very sincere and I appreciate that.
    Most white guys don't take responsibility for their actions when they do foul prejudice and racist stuff. Usually they private or delete their social media, or try to act like nothing ever happened or in worst cases double down on the foul behavior that they displayed.

WE’VE ALL DONE IT, BUT
      It shouldn’t define who we are. We’re All sinners and brothers and sisters made in the image of GOD and we need to be quick not to judge but to turn the other cheek, because at some point we were or will be in that persons situation. For the dude who called in, asking any person to dead their flesh and blood over ANY views is not how the human condition works. There are women who were raped by their fathers and still love their father on some level, bc that's her father. It is on my gen and younger of white ppl to try and open those ppls minds, but the idea of "how can you love or respect a racist family member" makes me feel like you just don't understand humanity in general.
    The real way to change this for future generations is to fight back against the old crusty rich white ppl who spread this toxic shit to the younger generations in the first place. Get rid of ppl like Joe Biden who put so many black fathers in jail, and Donald Trump who wants cops to get away with murder...
    And no offense to the black communities but you can't beat that machine alone. But the more conversations we have, the more honest dialogue, that's how you stop this shit at its root instead of always just working on one case at a time. And remember, those elites WANT us divided. Not just racially but thats a big angle for them. But the percent of white ppl who are waking up and want to be allies is bigger every year. So as much as, like Geechi says, it feels like y'all have just been taking Ls, from the white side of things, it's only getting worse because its getting better. We are starting to win and the ppl with the old mindset feel like we're taking "their country" from them. FUCK THEIR COUNTRY. Let's talk about how to make this OUR country.

    I have a hard time accepting this conversation of racism in battle rap being the same thing as that convo that has caused all this backlash. I loved the convo here and many good points were brought but talking about things done within the art form and how the rappers used it is far different than the more hateful/ignorant nonsense that was in that video with 24. I don't think those 2 things need to go together. I understand why its all being brought together and with good reasons and an even better cause but this needs to be compartmentalized to a certain degree. Conversations and how one responds to something is different than art itself. With rapping, comedy, whatever ... artist whether distasteful or not are often using the audiences ignorance as well against themselves to get reactions and entertain. Please don't compare that to that convo with 24.
    This whole idea that rappers in battles were expressing their true ideas or further advancing a systemic racist format is a convo on its own. Rappers/artist in battles is 1 lane ... 2 dudes in conversation shooting the shit is a completely diff lane. There were no other groups of culture present during that convo on cam, no live audience, none of that. They aren't the same and this convo at times amalgamated the 2 which I don't cosign one bit. I love what Avo has done for the battle rap culture but this needs to not be merged in my opinion. This is just speaking from my own opinion for the little that its worth. I've suffered and bled for this rap shit. I believe we all have room for growth and Avo clearly has shown he's grown. I commend him for taking this head on as well. I appreciate your contribution and overall involvement in the scene to a great degree, as a long time fan, but I feel like saying that I think the convo w 24/7 was actually more of a middle ground between a "candid conversation" and "artistic expression"... It happened on a show that was meant for entertainment. They knew people were watching. This wasn't a leaked private chat. In some ways, this makes it worse- you could say- "wow, they were really bold and comfortable to talk like that knowing people were watching", on another side of the coin, you could also see it as an extremely cringey attempt at edgy humor and just being ridiculous for the sake of shock value and entertainment to the viewers, as you said "artist whether distasteful or not are often using the audiences ignorance as well against themselves to get reactions and entertain"- I'm not really sure how that would only apply to battling and not to other forms of entertainment.

I did unsubscribe to RYD Patreon when I first saw the video because I want my dollar to work like a vote. But as a non-black person (I'm half-white/half-mexican who is familiar with both cultures) I feel like its really up to black people in hip hop to make this cancel call, not me. i might be wrong but it still feels wrong-er to continue support without any financial ramifications. I'm learning from these videos either way how complex this is, and thank you for sharing to all involved. I can reconsider support at a later date... There's one thing I notice in these comments tho - WHITE PEOPLE - if you're expressing support for Avo, at the same time dismissing the weight of that video ("it wasn't that racist", "I've heard worse", etc.), YOU AREN'T SUPPORTING AVO AT ALL. In fact, you are making the case worse for him, by 1) ignoring his own acknowledgement of the racism, and 2) adding to the fact that Black people inherently don't trust white people and you saying it wasn't that bad, implies there's even more racist shit out there to be found. Get on board, acknowledge the racism, and learn what you can from there for yourself.

      That's a little different. Diz is Arab and his ppl have arguably gone thru more oppression in the last couple generations than any other race. I hear you and I would tend to agree but, as black people, we have done our share. At this point it's about survival, as it has always been for whites. We need to worry about our children and the future generations. We can't afford to waste time trying to change other groups mind as a collective or individually. We don't have that luxury. That kumbaya shit is over.

    I had to stop watching after the Colorado rapper called in. He sounds like one of those people who doesn't believe ex-cons should be employed. Anyway, there's too much focus on whether or not Avocado is or isn't racist, or whether or not he's "changed". The teachable moment that's been overlooked is why the joke by 24/7 is a racist joke to begin with. I don't think we should take for granted that everyone understands that the joke is racist. That joke exists because some people believe that black fathers are "bad fathers". I would love to hear from battle rap fathers Danny Myers, Aye Verb, and Math Hoffa. I would love to hear from Hitman Holla and Calicoe about how Big Gerald and Blackface support their careers.

      The joke was about a lot of black fathers not being around for their kids. It a major problem in the black community. That directly relates to 4 of the 5 people you listed. Verb, Math and Danny all have kids that they did not live with/raise on a daily basis. Calicoe's dad was locked up for years.
      The "joke" pertained to 4 out of 5 people that you listed as good examples of fathers. The lack of dad's living with their kids is a major problem. The joke was in poor taste but it's based in statistical truth. That's why everyone got the joke. Society should be outraged at dads not living with their kids WAY more than a joke about it. The best thing for the black kids and their communities would be to have a strong familial base

    • @acpjr
      @acpjr 4 роки тому +1

      @@Mrjohndoe280 Yes everyone understood it was a joke, and hardly anyone found it funny. Many found it more than not-funny, they found it offensive. Let's assume that what you say is true, that absentee fathers are a problem in the black community. The joke by 24/7 then, however fleeting, only adds insult to injury. The joke doesn't "pertain" to anyone - it's a negative stereotype that undermines black people's struggle to gain respect, especially those black men who are actually good parents. My point to have a discussion with the battle rap fathers isn't to prove anyone wrong about anything, nor to parade them around and say "see look...", no it's to have a discussion about black fatherhood, its challenges, and why the topic of black fatherhood is not a laughing matter. I don't know if these battle rappers are good fathers or not, and neither do you, but we should show them respect and listen to what they have to say.

    • @Mrjohndoe280
      @Mrjohndoe280 4 роки тому

      @@acpjr I don't think that's a bad idea. And I don't disagree at all about the joke.
      My point is more that I think we are really close to the real heart of the matter, which is absentee fathers. With that we can discuss the challenges of black fatherhood.
      The sterotype exists for a really sad reason. I would like to focus more on that reason particularly, then deal with the asshole jokes. Longterm, once that reason goes away the stereotype will too.
      I am all for hearing what they all have to say and I think we both agree that it would be great to hear a lot more about fatherhood, specifically in the black community

    Avocado and everybody who promoted white supremacy stereotypes should, (if they are remorseful) take time and create content that 1. exposes what was done systematically to black people and how those things lead to the conditions we are in now. 2. show and promote positive black men and masculinity (because we gotta counter the feminization of black men). 3 dont let anybody else talk that shit around you.(if it was your grandma or your child you wouldnt let a mf talk crazy about them so have that same regard for black people)
