Showed this to my dad who was a PCF (Swift boat) Sailor in Vietnam. He smiled and said "it's about time they figured out how to make those miniguns work on a PBR.
I never truly appreciated how badass these guys are until I went through FMSS. Jesus, the training and other SF guys go through is damn intense. I remember back in bootcamp the "Dive Motivators" I think they were called would PT for hours every morning on top of regular bootcamp beatdowns/PT.
Yes they do, at the begining of OIF SEALs and GROM secured two oil platforms (MAABOT and KAAOT), but that would havew been impossible without the Swicks. Even now they conduct river operations and coastal partols.
Yes SFers are refered as the Quiet Professionals, but that statement is a way to characterise all Special Operations Forces. It has more depth than just a name for a SOF unit.
The SBT's were there, but after 1996 they became Swicks. They were the guys that made the VBBS ops in th ePersian Gulf possible before the invasion of Iraq throughout 2000-2003. SEALs, Swicks and Polish GROM took part in those operations.
@weeeeed808 If you have any doubt, consider driving the best multi-terrain combat team up a one way highway lined from side to side with enemy sentries and combatants. SWCC and SEAL fall into the same training program. Both are Special Warfare and both are high danger and incredibly disciplined and well trained. A mistake from either would be a disaster. Make no mistake, SWCC is as much a part of the SEAL mission as the SEAL themselves.
'River Rats' were not Special Operations (like the Swicks), their main focus was keeping the rivers clean of VC (right now the Navy's RIVERON unit do the same thing in Iraq - making sure insurgers don't go by river), but they did provide SEAL Teams with crucial river transport, often essential for their missions success. Today Swicks provide Special Ops. units with river and open water transportation - something no other military forces have.
@Klown594 It does not relect anything. PJ training is longer than SEAL training. A SF medical NCO takes longer to train than a PJ. Night Stalkers take aprox 5 years before they are full mission qualified. By that logic, I would say that Night Stalkers have the hardest training.
that was one helluva live-fire exercise.. i'm assuming the spinning of the light-sticks at 6:25 is to act as a visible marker for the boatmen? plus the smoke grenade of course.. i've served in the army in my country of singapore and every live-fire exercise is planned meticulously even if it's simple shoot-and-shoot drills.. The fire power coming from the 2 boats would have suppressed an entire company!
Why do you say so? SWCC is an SOF unit - Special Operations Forces dedicated for river/open water transport and support of SEAL Teams and other SOf units. You might call them the Special Forces of river/open water boat units. They go through simillar training as the US Navy SEAL Teams.
There is a reason why only one is usually aboard - ammo is the biggest problem. You just cant store that much lead on a boat to feed both miniguns. That thing chews up a lot of rounds.
The entire Brown Water Navy aspect is a complete "Shadow World" if you will, and it's best that it remains that way. The USN has a top notch SpecOps component, of which the SEALs and SWCC are a definite part.
Join the Navy and become a SEAL, you'll get a chance to work with these guys at least once in your Navy life. Bottom line, SEALs are Naval Special Warfare commandos who specialise in Direct Action missions and Special Recon. SWCC are boat drivers/mechanics. They get SEALs and other SOF (SF, Rangers, etc.) anywhere they need to go when h2o is involved. No matter if it's the open ocean or shallow river watterways. Most important thing: Swicks are Special Operations Soldiers just like the SEALs.
I was in SWCC in the 90's and we had a very similar type pf training but not quite as difficult. While SEALS's may not be SWCC's, SEAL officers command SWCC units.
Pardon the language, but DAMN that is an ASSLOAD of firepower on such a small boat. Good thing water is such a good shock absorber or the thing would tip over from the recoil. :D
Volunteering for Military service takes guts, volunteering for SOF units takes even more. Especially since their service is a lot more demanding. Good luck!
They trace their history back to PT boats used in WW2 and the River Rats of the Vietnam era. SWCC were created from SBTs in 1996. So they are relatively new to the Special Operations Community.
I would think that the idea and need for this team came from the rivers of vietnam. a great idea to have a team like this because going through a river is not the same as assaullting a beach.
@weeeeed808 I thought for the most part SWICK took care of business from aboard their boat. The shore party would consist of SEAL team members and the like. Aboard the boat, I would imagine, they all would fight the same way, dumping everything they have during threat contact and quickly disengage. When the smoke clears the boat is gone and all that is left behind is confusion and dead bodies...
I worked on this. When these guys roll up, they bring the hand of God with them. The video is great, but being there and seeing the punishment these guys deliver is jaw dropping. Bad guys are going to get what they deserve. Thank you for your service SWCC.
Green thumb Im gonna put my self right there. Yes its an easy ambushed target but its to take out the enemy so other people can beable to sleep in their beds with out having to hear artillery shells droping.I think swcc is pretty cool they work right next to the seals and the enemy fears us because they never know when we are gonna drop in on them. Not to many people can have a chance to say they have done this. It takes some guts to put your life on the line for the guy next.
My opinion does not matter. SEALs have different missions, Swicks have different missions. No matter if you are a SEAL, a sniper or a coock - you do your job, you defend your country. As for me, I'm in the Polish Army (Reservist 'till I finish up my senior year in college).
SEALs do demo, blow up shit, kill bad guys in their beds at night, Swicks make sure they get there when the plan calls for a river infiltration and exfiltration. Listen to the guys in the video, they explain the role of the SBTs. And for your first question: why not ?
I'm sure that SEALs have a lot of respect for Swicks. I'm also sure that Swicks have a lot of respect for SEALs. Since they are the ones actually in harm's way, isn't that the most important thing? They are brothers in arms. Both units risk their lives in defense of their nation and deserve our respect.
Those dudes are about the most invincible heavy surgical firepower I've ever seen. Airplanes carrying large bombs have a purpose, but these guys are just what the doctor ordered for closer, quieter work. That GE electric minigun is tits on a Ritz! I think you could go logging in a forest with that!
God Bless You All! And All Veterans that stood watch before you. Thank you for your service and valor for one Vet. to all others!!
Great video. One of the best demonstrations of combat abilities on UA-cam. Thanks, MH6M, for posting it.
Showed this to my dad who was a PCF (Swift boat) Sailor in Vietnam. He smiled and said "it's about time they figured out how to make those miniguns work on a PBR.
Semper Fi to all my Navy brothers. Its nice to know we are on the same side
I never truly appreciated how badass these guys are until I went through FMSS. Jesus, the training and other SF guys go through is damn intense. I remember back in bootcamp the "Dive Motivators" I think they were called would PT for hours every morning on top of regular bootcamp beatdowns/PT.
The secret to any great recruitment video
Show guys fuckin shit up with a minigun!

these guys have some of the most advanced boats ever made. amazin stuff.. reminds me of the vietname era brown water navy
'River Rats' were not Special Operations (like the Swicks), their main focus was keeping the rivers clean of VC (right now the Navy's RIVERON unit do the same thing in Iraq - making sure insurgers don't go by river), but they did provide SEAL Teams with crucial river transport, often essential for their missions success.

awesome unit. never knew there were specific 'river warriors'. very interesting really!
Thanks for the info matey. It's a nice history lesson.
I take that their operations were very successful?
That Minigun is brutal!! I wonder how many rounds per minute that thing fires? What caliber??
just WOW. Anyone that decides to fire upon these boats would be lucky to live long enough to say OOPS. That many round that quick is incredible
@Klown594 It does not relect anything. PJ training is longer than SEAL training. A SF medical NCO takes longer to train than a PJ. Night Stalkers take aprox 5 years before they are full mission qualified. By that logic, I would say that Night Stalkers have the hardest training.

@uchio There are SEALs that joined the Special Warfare Combatan-craft Crewmen, and vice verca.
Why do you say so? SWCC is an SOF unit - Special Operations Forces dedicated for river/open water transport and support of SEAL Teams and other SOf units.

The minigun is breaking necks and cashing checks
that shutdown at 2:12 was badass!!!
was that a SEAL platoon or SF team they went to extract at the end?
that was a cool video, the navy does alot better than the other branches with its videos that for sure
Great vid, I wish the recuiters had mentioned SWCC when i joined.
The entire Brown Water Navy aspect is a complete "Shadow World" if you will, and it's best that it remains that way. The USN has a top notch SpecOps component, of which the SEALs and SWCC are a definite part.
The SOC-R is a boat used by SWCC.
Man, those little boats can flat-out UNLEASH HELL!!
Join the Navy and become a SEAL, you'll get a chance to work with these guys at least once in your Navy life. geezus those boats pack some serious punch, i would not want to be on the receiving end of that mini gun
@napoleon99100 Right now? Most do as drivers for SEALs during missions.
How did those brakes work ?!
amazing power
cool, i hadn't heard of these guys until now. nice video!
Good luck then. Te Swick pipeline is hard but it is possible to become one.
Don't Quit!
Pardon the language, but DAMN that is an ASSLOAD of firepower on such a small boat. Good thing water is such a good shock absorber or the thing would tip over from the recoil. :D

@Connz1029 First brit iv ever seen say that...you just made my day
@weeeeed808 no, some of the same but not as as intense. It still hard and difficult but it is do able. Lots of swiming!
They trace their history back to PT boats used in WW2 and the River Rats of the Vietnam era. SWCC were created from SBTs in 1996. So they are relatively new to the Special Operations Community.
do these boats have fishing rods?
Thats because they are looking to evoke the PBR feel from the movie Apocalypse Now.
Miniguns run out of ammo pretty quickly... ^^ Thats why they have also 50 cal + It can take down vehicles like the Mk19 Grenade launcher.
I would think that the idea and need for this team came from the rivers of vietnam. a great idea to have a team like this because going through a river is not the same as assaullting a beach.
Great & informative
Good luck ! Don't Quit !

think it would be good to add a mark 19. just to get nothing but suppression fire out of the way.
that mini gun is sick!!
Efficient method of deforestation, gotta love the mini-gun.
Do these guys go through the same training as the SEALS? Because he said, that they're only "extract men for Elite Personnel."
I remember these guys zipping up and down the Panama Canal in the early 90's. Some real bad ass boys with some Super Bad Azz toys.
were do i apply
They also paticipate in land warfare if needed.
I worked on this. When these guys roll up, they bring the hand of God with them. The video is great, but being there and seeing the punishment these guys deliver is jaw dropping. Bad guys are going to get what they deserve. Thank you for your service SWCC.
looks just like Apocalypse Now, but hella more badass!
and they need to play "I'm on a boat!" (Lonely Island) as they move in and out :P
2 yrs. i cant wait!!!!!!!
GREAT PR
is swcc same ans soc-r?
They pulled that stop and I thought both craft had actually submerged the hull!
Modern day PBR. Rock on brother!
Don't the Seals have the Special Boat teams, atleast thats what I know from working over in Little Creek and Damn Neck with the Seals.
@m1ke905 "Voodoo Child" Steve Ray
This ought to be a movie..
My God! I'm sure glad that they are on our side..godbless our troops & godbless the United States of America..
Well done.
Very Impresive to say the least!
They are Navy equivalent of Night Stalkers?
thought for sure they were gonna pull a houdini and disappear at 2:20 lol
What army helecopter...

@weeeeed808 Different yet in some cases similar.
Um. Yes. I know. But I wonder if there is another way?
aprox. 2000 7.62mm rounds per minute.
SEALs do demo, blow up shit, kill bad guys in their beds at night, Swicks make sure they get there when the plan calls for a river infiltration and exfiltration. Listen to the guys in the video, they explain the role of the SBTs.
And for your first question: why not ?
HOLY SHIT on top of having a minigun, half of the turrets had like an 800mw laser sight! thats like $2000! for a pointer!
Awesome..5 stars.
when people start forrest fires this is who smokey the bear calls on for back up lmao xD
Threre is usually only one M134D minigun.
get some! set the dial to rock and roll...........
@monkey407 Not quite.
Big SOF has its advantages, small SOF has its advantages too.
@GenGeorgeWashington wow. how old are you? that's a very weird comment
I'm sure that SEALs have a lot of respect for Swicks. I'm also sure that Swicks have a lot of respect for SEALs. Since they are the ones actually in harm's way, isn't that the most important thing? hey good job on icing those Somalia Pirates kick ass !
if i was fishing in a boat and those guys came down the river with their big guns i think i'de pee my pants
Takin on these guys = deathwish
i need to get me one of these
Ok. Just for the record, the 160th SOAR is Army not Air Force :]
They are the best of the best !!!
There are no O's in the SWCC, all are enlisted.
I want one of those boats for duck hunting.
The only prob that a minigun doesn't fix is finite ammo. :)
fucking hell i must be hell to clean those those weapons afterwards
dude thatd be fuckin sick as hell manning a fuckin gatling gun on a boat
im enlisting in the navy and goin swcc out of high school
Those guys are bad ass.
