Cassidy was Randy's father in law.
Photographed Spirit in the 90s for their last two releases and live concert photos. Randy was such a mellow guy. He was so laid back and down to earth. When their manager called me to tell me Randy had drowned trying to save his son.. I cried.

I believe he was his Step Father. Randy was a bit of a prodigy and hung out with Jimi James (Hendrix) in NY, before the Experience. Jimi gave Randy his nickname Randy California. Randy wanted to play music and when he formed a band, at an early age, Ed was there to keep the boys out of trouble.

@@richarddavis5542 yeah I meant step father...
I had the privilege to be Spirit's official photographer in the early 90s when they were trying to make a comeback.
Then Randy drowned trying to save his son from a riptide.
      So sad..

I recall seeing Spirit at the old Alexandria, Virginia roller rink back in 1970 ....Ed stood out dressed exactly like his album photo all in black with dark sunglasses.....

It really is sad what befell him. One can only wonder what great music he may have made had he survived.

@@georgeszilva1223 Spirit with or without Jay was a great band! Whereas, Jay was a great talent in his own right. I saw Jo Jo Gunne in South Bend, Indiana just before they released "Bite Down Hard" got to hear the whole album before they got into the Run Run Run stuff. As of 08/13/22 it's still in my top 5 concerts of all time.

@jinglejuggs69 And Spitit's bassist, Mark Andes, found his way to be a member of Heart.
I saw Spirit years ago in Philadelphia. To this day, I can honestly say they were the tightest band I have ever seen in a concert setting. And over the years I have seen many bands.
