SIR#34 Modded DSL1H

Here is another mod I’ve been playing with for the DSL1. This might be my favourite so far. The base tone is very close, but just doesn’t quite generate the same bottom end as the big boys.
This is the same base mod as the 800, but employs a few improvements and the inclusion of a diode clipping switch on the back of the amp (you’ll see me switch in the middle)
Excuse the playing, it was late at night and the amp was setup on the floor.

sounding sweet man! any chance you wanna share the details of what you did? ive modded my dsl1 a little and know how many component changes need to occur to bring it to jcm800 topology. did you stick with the plate-fed tonestack and add diode clipping after c13?

It’s a conversion to cathode follower. It involves cutting a couple of traces to move the third stage after the second relay switch. Interestingly, you can add nfb by simply wiring from the third cathode (unbypassed 820) to the 16ohm tap without an nfb resistor. This amp generates such small voltage at the output. I opted to skip a presence control and instead just added a fixed depth over the nfb.
