Thanks for watching guys - So this rig is specifically for FrogLeap stuff, as it definitely the most suitable rig for the job, I’ll still be using my Chapman’s too, and of course my Kraken stereo amp setup for everything else. But damn this stuff is good and lots of fun!
I've just started using helix for live too, any chance you could upload some of the patches you're using?
Cheers :)
Rabea Massaad what is the song running in the background in the beginning? New toska?
I'd highly suggest that you check the line6 website for presets and thoroughly investigate the different things they do before you just go and pick components and build a patch. It sounds great but it can sound so much better.
Saad Hameed It's Comme Ci Comme Ca off the new Grinding Gears EP👍
Rabea, use snapshots within patches for main, chorus, etc. It'll be a seamless transition, unlike with changing the patches themselves.
Cheers for the kudos mate! =)
Legends! Thanks for watching and making stellar tunes hahah!
The Australian Faith No More \m/ Awesome stuff.
Saw you guys live last year in Düsseldorf, and it was fucking amazing. We were not only blown away by the compositions but also the pragmatic use of your Shurikens and Line 6 Gear in combination. For our coverband we slowly migrate over to a similar setup you are using (saving up dough though^^). We are really stoked. We are going to be very busy..... :D
Twelve Foot Ninja , holyshit, mate. You've been fucking busy.
Seeing you guys in 2 weeks, can't wait to see this gear in action!
Hey, Bea - looks like you're using patches to switch tunings etc. There's a much better way to do it (I'm assuming you haven't tried) - snapshots. No switching gap, and it gives you delay/reverb trails too.
Snapshots are dope!
I just use a digitech drop.
I use a digitech drop in front of my Helix. Great for changing tuning... However, snapshots allow you to change amp channels and turn on/off assigned Helix pedals for a specific sound that you create with that snapshot. It's the best feature of the Helix in my opinion. For instance... If you want to go from clean with a reverb pedal to dirty with three different pedals, all you have to do is step on one footswitch, and there's your sound.
I don't use Helix for it's amp models, but as a pedal board with snapshots going in to my amp it's fantastic.
ooooh rabea using a variax and helix....thats exciting to me. youre gonna do great things with it
It was nice to meet you at NAMM. Glad you ended up with a Helix! Hope you drop by the Line 6 Helix Family of Products User Group - Original on Facebook. Not sure if you remember me but I'm the co-founder and you did a walkthrough of the Norsman for me at NAMM. Keep rocking!
New rig is sick dude 👌
Ben Minal But drummers don’t understand guitars and its players...
Max Scardanelli Jared Dines..
guitarfrozenintime He’s not really known as a drummer though. He’s way more famous for his guitar and vocal sketches/covers.
Max Scardanelli doesn't change the fact that he's also a drummer
Can you see how useless this back and forth is on Ben's comment? I'm sure you do , go to bed babies :)
It honestly astounds me that Line6 haven't made a Variax bass in quite some time. Hopefully they will do soon, can't imagine what wizardry your bassist is having to pull off to play this set.
So they gave Rabea a Variax and a Helix... Just imagine the possibilities!
When your tone is as massive as your fro
Maxwell Fuster I
He saves a fortune, annually on haircuts, stylists, and a blow dry.
That's it. I'm sold. Getting a helix, brb.
I got one a couple of months ago. It is unbelievably cool to use and sounds great. They have regular update patch releases as well. Couldn't recommend it more.
You know you wanna make a sitar patch for incubus - Nowhere Fast ?? 😎👍
Whatever reason for using I'm glad you've joined our Line 6 and Helix family Rabea. I can't wait to see more of what you can do with this awesome gear.
Ok, so now that you and Leo have these rigs, you need to do a video where you guys start out covering a metal song, then switch to a bluegrass version with dobro and banjo a third of the way in.
I second this
I'm thinking they need a recording session in Nashville, TN
Dude, I LOVE my Helix and my Variax! It comes in really handy with the Mrs. Smith gig because it's all over the place. And with all the loops, I can run it with my Victory Amps too. It's a killer unit. 🤘🏻❤️🤘🏻
I've had a Variax 600 since college, when I was too poor for all the guitars I needed. I run through a POD HD500X board, and the tones are outstanding.
I need this helix patch... SICK!
Thank you so much! I've own my helix since it came out and have been on the fence about the Variax guitars. You have really shown some of the things that I've wanted to see. Thank you again. Keep up everything you are doing!! Love the music!
It sounds way better when just dropping the guitar tuning up or down in the Helix/Variax if you just use the pitch block on the helix. The Variax gets all sorts of overtones that cross blend across strings when you palm mute. So just using the pitch block is way better sounding.
Mindblown. The possibilities are endless. Imagine making a song with different tunings. Thank you for sharing Bea! Rock on!! \m/
"...ba-donk..." The way you said that was priceless. lol
good move Bea, I saw 12 foot ninja in Sydney a couple of years ago ,before the Shurikan
was available, and was blown away .I bought a JTV89f a week later .I've had a line 6 hd500 for years and together I just love what you can do .I'll be in the UK in october hopefully you're gigging in one of your bands.I would love to see you live.
Big heartfelt thank you Rabea, I’m new to the channel, loving the content, I’ve just got the line6 helix as well, it’s a versatile bit of kit, even makes my 2002 Gibson LP standard sound even better if that’s possible, running through the orange rocker 32, appreciate the informative vids all the way from Australia
Happy Birthday, enjoy Norway brother
I'd like to see a Chapman Guitar version that sounds decent unplugged... The only problem is that Rob will probably call it the Chapstix or something equally daft!
Seriously though Line Six really have this well wrapped up... it's impossible to ignore just how bloody awesome this is as a musicians dream come true!
Matt Allen chapman needs to go away
Really really recommend the *snapshot* feature for smoother changes btw. Don't overlook those.
Cool rig for the job!
A Helix grandfather got promoted from this, out of L6 into Yamaha as a whole. Fantastic product. Well deserved to him!
XiXora I have the Helix. But the Yamaha 100hd to me sounds and feels better. It’s so simple as well to use. But I guess the Helix is easier to travel with and now the tiny stomp Helix.
That guitar is sick for a fly rig. Happy Birthday Rabea. The number of viewers of my youtube video of you guys at the Guitar Center is still growing. Thanks to you Rabea and Rob Chapman. Cheers, Flood!
I have been a helix user for about 2 years and I am amazed with how far the technology has come. I still have my valve amps but they are sitting in my closet. You're tones sound excellent.
Something to watch out for..... i use the helix in stereo w/dual pitch shifters so i can go from Eb to standard tuning sometimes without having to refloat the bridge and just about every time I do, within minutes one of the shifters freaks out and starts doing interval harmonies and the only way to fix it is to dump the preset and reload it (the controls do absolutely nothing until you reload the preset) also find the tracking to be pretty glitchy when setting the shifters to B standard
Don’t you just absolutely love new toy day. Great excitement. Thanks for sharing . Have fun Bea!
Line 6 is great when you're working inside a budget. I still have my 19 year old Spider Gen1 100watt 212! its still a beast! 4 channel, all programmable, still my favorite loud amp.. Cheers!.
Doesn't it feel weird when the guitar is in drop A from the speakers but the resonance against your body is essentially drop C? That's what felt weird for me when I tried the Digitech Drop.
Jukka Pesonen to be fair when you are on stage playing next to a sub you don’t feel anything except thag
It's awesome seeing such a great guitarist using the helix! Sugestion: Maybe snapshots can make up your life easier. One preset for each song and several snapshots for each part of the song.
Good luck for the gigs and hope to hear some feedback about the helix experience after the tour. Cheers
one rig to rule them all
So, you can tune to a tuning where the string tension feels the most comfortable, regardless of the scale length vs your preferred string gauge, and then make it sound like whatever tuning you need for a given application, that sounds pretty useful.
I knew the Helix was good but great to see in detail how it is going to be applied and used in your FrogLeap Tour. Makes me want one even more! Good luck on Tour Rabea! As always, I’m wishing the best for you and yours.
Mind = blown. I need this set up so bad!
Got my ticket, booked a flight, looking forward to hearing this rig live 👍
thinking about getting one.... could you do a video about your experience with it on tour when you got time? Thank your for the amazing content!
I am so happy for you and Leo from Frogleap studios. Should be an amazing time. The line 6 gear is amazing but not cheap. Here in Canada it would cost me for that set up somewhere in the neighborhood of a custom shop guitar for it. Hope you enjoy playing around with it. Happy birthday and have a fun time at the gig.
Bea, Use the snapshots, its like a patch within a patch, gets rid of any latency when switching patches
I think it was another great video where I get to watch one of my favorite guitar players jam out and show me some cool new shit.
Rabea, Just wanted to wish a fellow 12th of May born person a happy 30th Bday, i'm turning 50 this year, love your music and wishing you a great show for your Bday, i'd love to be there for your show but as you can imagine a 50th will be a pretty mental day, Cheers from Sydney Austrailia.
One small step for Rabea, one giant FrogLeap for guitar mankind...I wonder what sort of crazy new tones you could coax out of that rig after fiddling with it for a few days, please keep us updated
Wow, that is such a wild set up! Congrats on the new gig! Seems like things are really working out well for you. That's awesome! Your hard work and dedication is starting to pay off. You deserve it!👍😎🎸🎶
My Line 6 POD HD 500 could also do this with the pitch shifter assinging it to a button on the pedalboard, however if I tuned it bellow 1 step the end result would be too "digital sounding". I don't ear that in this case, seems way better. Very nice.
For the budget minded the line 6 fire hawk fox and an iPhone can get you there with your curren guitar for about $350 if you catch a sale. Many of the presets are already in the cloud.. its torpedo wall of sound and bias fx in a pedalboard for 350. It’s mental
twelve foot ninja is the perfect showcase for the variaxe and the shurikan...stevic is absolutely brilliant at his craft and this combo has helped him to achieve live performances that otherwise would have been impossible if it were not for the shurikan and the variaxe ..glad to see you moving beyond and outside of your box bro..i think once you get out there gigging with this combo..your more than likely going to do it all the time and even marry it with your already awesome rig set up...kudo's my brother namaste
Goddamn this is too good of a commercial for line 6 setup. Love it!
Dude that Owl shirt kicks ass! Need one!
I've got a Helix and Variax. I would never go back. It's a beast of a rig.
Awesome!! Really hope you'd consider sharing these patches. They sound killer! Thanks for being bad ass!!
the cheeky look at the camera switching between drop c and drop a while it rings out hahah
Yeah! 12 Foot Ninja represent, and I love you too Rabea. I'm about to pair my Chapman with a Helix to get my EP out in the next several months. I feel great hearing my heroes using the same gear that I'll have quite soon. Good luck and good travels!
Digits Fx Pedalboards have become ridiculous amazing.
Hey Rabea, would think about putting up a download for your cabinet IRs ?
You'll have to ask the Line6 guys to model the Victory Krakens (both channels and both valve options), the would be cool AF...
Mark Gilson But it being Line 6, it’d sound shit!!! 😂😂🙄🙄👌🏻👌🏻
No shit!!! We need videos of you playing live!!! This is fantastic. I have a variax standard with the helix and I'm loving it. You should do a relic variax as well!!! And please, do share your patches someday. We can at least experiment your music and your sound!!! And let us hear you chapman guitar as well with the helix. Really nice to see your new set-up!!!
Very cool! Hope to see yall on tour, mind blown on the vareax! Thanks for the video
Dude no need to explain or feel uneasy. It is the right tool for the job. I'm just grateful(😉) technology is far enough that it sounds excellent. I still love my Tele and little solid state Fender amp because it gives me the sound I need for the project. I get it. 🤘🍽
Sounds great. Great tones and great playing. Thanks for showing a bit of this amazing equiptment
Daaaamn Fro...
I saw the Namm-demo already and immediately wanted to own a Shuriken with a Helix. Now I almost feel like I NEED to have em.
Get those guys from Line6 to gift this gear to you because probably a lot of people will buy it cuz of you!
All the best, Fro!
Dude I cant wait to hear the live versions of Leo's covers! especially with you playing guitar!!! keep up the great work bro!
The banjo sounds legit!! That thing is nutty!!
Comme Ci Comme Ca playing in the back✔really digging the tune Bea. It BANGS🔥
Calling it, rabeas going to have his own signature line 6 spider with its own mega insane setting!
Thanks for this video, I'm totally amazed. I've been a Line 6 guy for years but I've dismissed the Variax as wonky, but my mind is totally blown.
Made my day seeing you delving into digital modelling. It's getting better and better. What a great time to be a musician. Best of luck with Frogleap!
I bought my HD 500 off Rohan from Twelve Foot Ninja 😁
Upgrading to a Helix after dissatisfaction with the Bias head. I never thought Variax guitars were legit but I'll definitely be getting a strat model. Hopefully they do a bass too.
Bradley S did u have volume issues with ur hd500?
LUV IT !!!!!, you looking great man... doin great... props dude !!!!! amazing what you and friends share, nothing top secret set up or tones anymore - so much diff than 80's - you and friends are the reason , the word on the street is -" this is the golden age of guitar " - has little to do with manufacturing or cost - more about sharing info !!!! the more shredding artist's the better...
Headrush Pedalboard latest firmware introduces a pedal called Drop Tune. It’s spot on too.
Hey Bea! You'll fall in love withs the Helix, just wait and see ;-) Very few limitations on that unit. My tip is; you can program the stereo spread to FOH per snapshot and preset. Most of my sounds are 70%R/70%L but on some sounds the spread is 100/100, and the FOH guy doesn't have to do ANYTHING - XD
Lots of people lovin’ the Helix. Some day I’ll pick one up.
Good luck guys! Cant wait to hear new masterpieces from you!!!
Mind blown! The tech now days is incredible.
That tuning stuff is mind-blowing... It's really interesting to hear about how this came from you having a problem that needed solved and this rig did that, rather than it just being gear for no reason.
Good luck with the shows, dude!
I love the minimalist-looking Helix interface.
I hope you guys come to the states
Duuude!! That guitar is nasty!! I fucking love it!
OMG! COME TO CANADA🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Nice one man... The Helix is the dog's cahonis! Currently saving for a JTV Variax then my life is complete 👍
Look at snapshots for feel good. you'll find next to zero drop out between selecting patches otherwise.
Mike Trickey well I’m
More into my amps. I’m not a gig player by choice. But u do have the Helix. But they fixed that with snapshots for the floorboard.
Happy early 30th birthday fro-b1-kenobi!
Holy cow I can’t believe I just heard about this!!! I love you guys man both of you!
Totally right way to go, I mean not much can compete with it.
Wow, thst is very impressive, and people really won't be able to tell that you're not using valve amps. Would love a Helix and a Variax, it's the future. There is plenty of room for traditional players to exist alongside those that will embrace technology. I reckon it's a great way forward. Nice one guys! My birthday is three days before your so it'll remind me about your and the upcoming gig.
Yikes, the big 30. I was mad about that one for the whole year haha. Glad to hear the continued involvement with Frog Leap.
So glad you are trying this gear out. Like others have mentioned you gotta use snapshots to really unlock the potential for live use! Looking forward to seeing what you can do with this awesome tool!
Come to Iowa! 🤘🎶🤘
I love my Helix btw. Welcome to the club
Really cool rig. I am interested in seeing more about this setup.
Can't wait to see the content that will come from this partnership, rig is sick and the songs are gunna be incredible!
I'm just chuffed you're jamming with Leo. Now Frogs Leap band and Toska need to do a US tour.
Rabea looks like he's been busy.
Raff Pajarillo busy BEAver
busier than a cat
I can have all the gear in the world but if I don't have skills...nothing happens :) You are very good PERIOD.
when i found that guitar last year i was also blown away by that technology. nearly bought it but i will be overwhelmed by all the possibillities :-P
And i found it through Twelve Foot Ninja who became one of my favorite bands as well, and the things Stevie does with the Helix is sick and genius!
Congrats on the gig with Leo, Enjoy!
Wow that sounds killer. I have a helix, but have been kinda cringing at the Variax. After hearing you play it though, my mind has been changed. Good luck with the shows 🤘
We share the same birthday! If only I had half your talent. You one of my favourite musicians and biggest influences to push my own ability! Keep up the amazing work
Just started out on the Helix road myself, still figuring out how best to amplify & monitor live - last gig was straight into the PA and also into a Tech 21 Power Engine for monitor - worked OK. Would be interesting to know how you'll be setting up. Also, the Snapshots are a great way to switch sounds in a song - none of the slight delay changing between full presets.
Happy Birthday Rabea!
please do that video showing the specifics of the amp models, routing, ir's etc. i was using helix native (i believe uses all the same models as the hardware units) and was struggling to get any decent high gain tones, although i will say the cleans were stellar!
Cool! Can you show us some of that killer licks like the one in 11:18? I mean, some legato licks with no pinky involvement...thank u!
Good luck on the leapfrog tour.
I think it is very sensible travelling light and the helix is great kit to do that. I love my amps too but I bet when you return and go out on tour with your full rig again, you may secretly want the helix back ;)
