Great video, hope the health stays good with Robbie, I'd never be so nosey as to ask but people might have been worried for him, great worker and great craic. looking forward to seeing the lambs out of that big Lleyn ram.
It is always educational watching your channel. I hope Robbie remains fit and strong for many years to come. He is a real gem. Kids have a knack for finding dirt and grease. 😊👍👍
Karol -when I was watching a recent video of you and your father sorting and jabbing sheep ,I thought Karol's one of those things that David on Sheep School has -hope it suits your purpose
I am not a farmer, I'm a mental health Occupational Therapist. I found your channel through a recommendation from Lynn at the youtube channel Ewetopia Farms. She said you were a fantastic channel and I agree :) I enjoy watching people problem solving, sharing knowledge, and your family is lovely too :) This type of content , real people doing their best, figuring things out...is great for the mind and soul. Plus I'm learning lots !
My wife and I are not on the land David, we live in Melbourne, Australia, but we love your videos... Sheep, Engineering, lovely wife and gorgeous children.... but we especially enjoy seeing Robbie.... A true Gentleman with a great sense of humour. 😂
That's an interesting brake setup. I've got electronically controlled brakes (US, if it makes a difference), there's a box mounted on the dash that controls them.
I'll try to add a little more in the videos. Just out of interest, do you think an engineering only video would be better or mix it up with sheep work?
Watch Farmer Tyler Ranch. He’s in California, raising beef cattle. He’s also an excellent fabricator and makes a lot of what he needs. He has videos of both. Could give you some ideas about how to mix it up. youtube.com/@farmertylerranch4399?si=5a97zc00iX5yT9LG
Jeez he’s a solid ram! Will he be used to breed a more terminal type line of rams? I like your chats with Karol, be a great video of you two driving around each others sheep talking about them.
The ram has definitely size and power but he'll need to breed productive females or he'll will have to go.. that's why I like the performance recording, great to keep an eye on that.. Karol is a good lad & the craic is always good 👌
@@sheepschool365 oh yeah always gotta follow the stats. Be interesting if you ran through that one day on a video of what you’re looking for on the stats and how that looks in the sheep and how it breeds into them. A stud sheep bloke I used to know said he always sold all his single ewe lambs at breeder sales, they always looked the best and it vastly improved his twin rates. Dunno how accurate that is 🤷♂️
You would have been better running a tap in the threaded hole after seeing the state of the thread on the old locking handle. That pylon line bolt that Robbie kept from his working days knowing it would come in handy might get tighter. I sure he will have plenty more, Hahaha.
Spoke to a guy the other day and he has been using the Cottercrate for a few about 3 years or so. He's having fierce trouble getting the sheep up the ramp and into it now, as they don't like being dropped down every time. Have you noticed any hesitance yet?
Only sheep I've had up twice were the hogget ewes. Once for dosing & next for drafting for sale. No problem 2nd time up... will keep you posted in the videos 👌
the pro and con's of early lambing - when you show one of the 2025 years lamb they are just that little bit older and bigger - you get to the market early are the prices better - if you need to additional feed do you have enough hay - when does you ground warm up (normally) - what has the weather been doing over the last 5 years over that period to see if it has settled as it seams to before spring (windows without rain) - we had a spring snow storm here in NZ this year and as we lamb outside that did cause a bit of a problem both in loss of lambs and the ground getting cold again slowing down the grass but this does happen
A rule of thumb lambing after St. Patrick's day always was better warmer weather but really unpredictable lately. Some of the best weather has been January and February followed by terrible wet March & April spells. Peak grass growth is May & June. An ongoing gamble as when to lamb....
@@sheepschool365 farming is a gamble - looks like you might have one group lambing January early February so without realising that wee lamb ram, that got in with the girls could produce your test case - track that group and see how it goes (grass growth, weather conditions, additional feed needed, temperature of the soil) - then maybe commit to the whole flock (or not)
There is a very odd pitch of thread on those jockey wheel clamp bolts. It's a 1.75 or 1.5 mm pitch! I don't think that bolt was 100% right as I've tried several times to get a bolt the proper thread and a tap to suit. Ended up buying a proper kit with a plate to sit into the rips on the jockey wheel!
If it lasts as long as the last one I'll be happy. Stuck an esb bolt in it over 10 years ago and never gave any trouble until the incident! We'll hope for the best 👌
That's the heating boiler for the project in the video link below. It works well but like a few other jobs, yet to be finished.... ua-cam.com/video/ChCOwUUS8Ho/v-deo.html
Only farming for 10 years this October but have been taking things apart since I was a child. The toy box was old clocks, springs and various other gadgets 😀

Got out of sheep yrs ago but look forward to your videos every week, nearly tempted to get back into them 🤔
Life is only complete when there's a few sheep running around 🤣
I’m no farmer but I love these little videos David. Pleased that Robbie is getting there.
I watch 2 farming streams, and by God what I take from them both, is how much of a multitasker you have to be on a farm these days
Hi lad that was a great job with it and the best of luck with your class Ram to lad 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I am glad Robbie has things in hand. Pun not intended.
Great video David. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼👍🏼

Great video David and well done on the 15K subs. I see you have the same handle in the sledge as me 😂

You and me both! She will love it..😉
Another great video hopefully Robbie will be getting better as time goes on. My thinking is any grease is better than no grease lol
Great point. I see lots of equipment in for repair that never saw grease in its lifetime!

Any update on how Meg the dog is getting on with her training David?
She has come on well. I'll try & show her in action soon.. serious power but headstrong....
Great video David . Just have a question were the texel lambs good out of the llyen ewes
Hi Charlie, texel crosses are lovely lambs, much stronger than the purebred lleyn lambs but more work with them at lambing time.
Thanks David
David…..what was wrong with the rams eye? Pinkeye? What is the best treatment for that?
Doubt it was pinkeye, eye just gone a little cloudly think it is from dust in that particular bale of hay. Shot of blue spray works a treat. ..👌
