Me and my children have just started out in the sheep world after watching your videos your sheep look amazing we've gone for the welsh badger face as we are from South Wales
Due to anthelmintic resistance, COWP ( Copper oxide wire particles) have been trialed to control Haemonchus contortus in the US in goats and some breeds of sheep not as prone to Copper toxicity. Interestingly, showed to be more effective in lambs than ewes. There've also been studies using fungi spores to control worms. Whatever happened to the rescue border collie you were training?
If your breeding ewes are "VERY THIN" and you decide to flush them? Be careful twin lambs are always a bonus and you will have extra lambs to sell. But the paradox is when you are pushing for a higher lambing percentage % Your ewes will need enough milk to look after the extra lambs, sometimes a single lamb is better than a double. But it depends on your flock management system and your resources available.
Dead right. I find the Lleyn ewes hard working mothers and pretty thin at weaning especially the twin rearing ewes. I'm finding the really fat ewes at tupping time didn't rear very good lambs.
@@sheepschool365 this is because she's not feeding her lambs enough, she's keeping herself well fed, where as a fit sheep most of the time will put her energy into her lambs ! I have bred my own texel x nc mules and I'm putting them to charolais rams .there fit, nothing worse than a fat sheep I find they usually have a single, to thin and you get a triple 🤦♂️and a ewe that cant feed two lambs !!! Sheep who'd keep them only a mad man haha and it seems there's lots of mad men and women around! Look forward to your next video, your tips are valuable especially your prolapse rope trick !!!
You should have 20 or 30 in your pocket a long you leg for 10 or 15 minutes first to warm bullets not good giving them without that because like putting an ice cube into stomach and when you let her go she starts coughing and throws it up I was at same thing last week and 2 them put it up and they were ones that started coughing and I had them warmed a bit first
if you feel your ewes are a bit lean - why not flush them with some sheep pallets for that final bit before the rams go out - 1 lamb v's 2 - it just might be worth the investment - don't know how many bags a day you would need really depend on the amount of ewes in the field - do one field of ewes then you can work out whether the investment $$$ in worth it 150 v's 189% is a lot of $$
@@PotatoBodo The flushing process 3 weeks prior tups go out involves increasing sheep nutrition and energy intake before breeding season starts. This elevated nutrition helps optimize ovulation, conception and embryo implantation rates, which can result in a higher lambing percentage. - a lean ewe is more likely to have a single
You are a great teacher and sheep farming ambassador. Cheers to you, Robbie, Enya, Noah and Cian. 👍😊👍

Hope that ram lamb hasn't messed things up for you. It's great the factory is always an option, there he will pay the price for his misdeeds.

David do you ever footbath your sheep ?

Fit not fat is the key too lots of twins .

How easy are your sheep at lambing? Fertility rate?
Pretty good at lambing time. Less than 10% lambing difficulties. Usually scan 180-200% with 70% twins.
@@sheepschool365 that’s great! Thank you for the information!

That's interesting. Never heard that before 👍

Why don't you have one drenching and one doing bolusing
We were after doing an 8 hour shift in the workshop and didn't want to sicken Cian with work 🤣
Personally wouldn’t want to keep the one with an abscess. She’ll probably be a constant source of infection, lambs will probably be the same.
She will go along with the culls, no room for passengers 👌
Why don't you bolus the ewes?
After looking at the difference in the lambs it really is something I need to consider in the future!

So, increasing feed just before they meet the ram gives them a higher chance of having twins?

Great definition of flushing 👌
@@sheepschool365 Thanks David - a quick memo for the girls (ewe's) a set of live twins each is all that is asked for - don't go crazy
So you want them thin or not fat but getting plenty to eat. Going into a bulking phase so to speak?
