Fitting a Feed Auger - Total System Upgrade!
In this video, we tackle a long-overdue upgrade to the feed system in the piggery. The old setup was a constant source of headaches, with frequent breakdowns and endless repairs slowing us down from other more important jobs. Working in a dark, dirty, and smelly environment added to the challenge, but we knew a modern solution was the only way forward.
Join us as we remove the worn-out system, install a new centerless auger feed setup, and ensure the pigs are happier and better fed! It’s a transformation worth seeing, and it shows just how important the right equipment is for smooth farming operations.
Thanks for watching, see you next time...

This week, I introduce you to my new sheepdog, Meg, who’s showing promise-but it’s clear I need as much training as she does! After that, it’s time to sort lambs for the factory. I discover they’ve been overfed, costing me money, but I send off 16 lambs at my best prices ever! I save two potential breeding rams, hoping they’ll turn wasted feed into big profits next year. The rest of the ram lam...

Today’s farming adventure shows just how unpredictable life on the farm can be! Watch as we tackle a series of unexpected challenges: from gathering sheep that break back and go their own way, dealing with a van that’s deeply stuck in the mud, and facing some “real problems” on the lawn. With family pitching in (and plenty of laughs along the way), we keep pushing forward, because in farming, y...
Repairing DRAWBAR and a HYDRAULIC RAM on a ZERO GRAZER. #engineering #workshop #farming #welding
Переглядів 24 тис.21 день тому
This video is about repairing a damaged hydraulic ram end and pivot bracket on a zero grazer. The ram end is badly worn and needs replacing as the bolt is breaking after a few weeks. It's an important part of the machine as failure can leads to the machine swinging out into on-coming traffic and could also result in further drawbar damage. No sheep in this one - all workshop. I hope you enjoy t...

We also hit a few roadblocks ...

It’s another eventful day on the farm as we gear up for winter! Today’s main task is mineral drenching and bolusing lambs to prepare them for the colder months ahead. We separate ewe lambs and ram lambs while dosing them through the race, but things don't go as planned-one lamb gets stuck, which leads to a mix-up and a ram lamb sneaking out with the ewe lambs. Just another day of sheep farming ...

In today’s video, we’re tackling some important sheep farming tasks, starting with setting up the mobile race to mineral dose and bolus my sheep. It’s a job I’ve never done before pre-tupping, but concerns over mineral deficiencies affecting fertility have made it a priority this year. My student, Cian, who helped during lambing time, is back on the farm to lend a hand, while Robbie takes on th...

In today’s video, I’m rushing between multiple farm tasks to get everything ready for the winter. First up, I’m loading the dung spreader and topping weeds before clearing out the shed to store the hay bales I made in a previous video. This job is long overdue, but time on the farm has been scarce! My trusty old Landcruiser works hard to haul a large trailer full of hay. With the help of a fell...

She threatened me with the pressure washer 🤣
What a job! Great to see your skills at work, you made that look easy!
Thanks 👍
I live in South Africa & a farmer.I like your video.May I ask for the sheep layout shed & the vide measurement of the layout structure
15ft 9" bays. 94ft 6" long total. 49ft 2" wide. Pen are approximately 18ft x 20ft. 35 sheep per pen. But can fit 40 if really stuck. Walk through passage ways are 3ft wide.
You could do with a "Mystic Meg" on your team.
wee short trailers are a pain
Alot of work David fair play to ya 👏
I wish you the very best with feed project for the pigs.
Great project david. I wish you well . And have the best of every Thing david.
You wouldn't need to be going to work at Orla's utility after being in the pig house all day 🤮
Great man David 👍
I’m mess with that feeder damn there every day I work for a virgin turkeys in the United States in Greenberg county West Virginia
I think those old chain feed systems were made as a form of torture 🤣
Free baling for u next year
Great video David, you are a handy boy to have around, master of many talents great job
Thanks 👍
Great job if Mr Rat doesn't stop off passing by, Seen them eat through that white pipe and get themselves wrapped around the auger
The rats can do serious damage alright! Eating the wires is a bigger problem. That why I cable tied the wires under the white pipe. Makes it a bit more difficult for them to get at..
Great work your some man your hands fair play to u put in some work into that and these videos so we can watch u along way
Orlaitha utility must be finished you are talented 👏
Not just finished yet, can't rush jobs like that 🤣
How much did all these bits cost. Could be a great system in a sheep giving out nuts at lsmbing. Save the mad scramble for nuts if thry all got fed at once.
It's hard feed the sheep all together with this type of system but ideal for filling adlib hoppers for fattening lambs.
@sheepschool365 thanks David for the reply. What brand is it?
Where do you buy all the auger bits ? Wouldn’t might doing my own system
All the auger parts came from PE services in Cavan.
A Hendon Tripod ladder, it’s a game changer and cheaper than a broken back or hip!
You amaze me with all the skills you have.
Any plans to fit this type of system in your sheep shed..🤔..would it cut down on some of the labour?
No plans yet but would be great for feeding the fattening lambs adlib.
@sheepschool365 exactly my thinking..
Fair play. Great job.
You are a man of meney skills
Where is the mane man Robby I bet he is doing the utility room at home
Fascinating video David! Cheers! All the very best!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️🐑

What a pit 🫣. I’ll never eat pork again …
We didn't make the cut 🙈
Coming soon 😜
You are a man of many talents.
You are a man of many talents David
Yes paddy👍
Between Adrian and yourself David! What talent! 😊.
It's a Cavan thing.... We can't afford to pay a PRO 🤣
Good man 😅 you maybe a Jack but no daw👌
Great video David and a great job you did 👌
I was please to see you careful on the ladder David (not taking Tom's advice) - if you were not seriously injured by the time Orlaith finished with you, you would have wish you were
Slats are a magnet for tools, hope you'd no losses!
Thank no casualties in this one but there been a few losses over the years 😉
Nothing like a warm pig house on a cold frosty morning for heat
Be glad of it these mornings 😀
How come there's NO grease nipple on the hubs for the bearings??
Most hubs, bearings and caps are packed with grease when bearings are fitted and that's it. I think the most important grease point is the pivot on the tandem axle.
@sheepschool365 surely that grease from packing isn't going to keep those bearings properly,,,and I agree the pivot point is also a crucial point...Bad design.
You have two good handy dogs there, I wouldn’t part with either. Meg just needs to start her training closer to the sheep, with less commands and you using your body movements to control the exercise, until she settles. All young dogs with a bit of push are frisky until they settle down after a few minutes. Until you have a good stop on her and a call off on her, leave a line on her, so you can grab her easily. Keep the sessions short 15 mins a day and call her off 3 or 4 times during the session to get her to realise that a call off doesn’t mean she won’t be going back to the sheep. With pushy harder dogs they need to feel they will get a chance to go back work and the trick is several call offs in a session tells them they will be going back to work which they love and they don’t know when the last call off will be. Many dogs become difficult to call off sheep because when they are called off 1. they aren’t allowed to work for days or weeks and it frustrates them.2. they are called off too soon in the session 3. the call off is harsh and the handler isn’t in the right position I.e. between the sheep and the dog.
😊😊😊😊😊
Hi Wayne, Thank you for the advice and it makes perfect sense! Anytime I call Meg off she was reluctant and it was always the end of the session. Will definitely work on few call off's going forward.
