The untold, last piece of that story is that I had two full band arrangements that Adrian Fry and I had written especially for Glen Campbell that were never used on that May 2 show… ‘Wichita Lineman’ and ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’. So come this week, discussing with Adrian what I would perform as my ‘Elio’s Aperitif', it was he that suggested I should do ‘Wichita Lineman’. I have always adored this song (Glen Campbell’s first No.1 record, released in the year I was born, 1968), and so here I was with our joint arrangement of this incredible song sitting languishing in the pile and I suddenly felt it calling me. I tweaked the arrangement to suit me as a piano-player and with the brilliance of everyone around me, it all fell into place.
I have since performed this classic tune many many times live and I relish the opportunity to do so time and time again! ❤️
