Glen Campbell's Amazing Guitar Solos!

- Some of the best compilations of Glen Campbell's incredible guitar solos have to be seen to be believed...As a young child in the mid 70's I like most everyone was captivated by the song Rhinestone Cowboy and many other songs sung by Glen. But what I (and I'm sure many others) never knew was (until one time in the early 80's I turned on the TV and saw Glen Campbell playing guitar and totally shredding on it) how amazing a guitarist he truly really is. At that moment I knew that heard is someone that has utterly mastered his craft. I hope what you see here will convince you as well.

How Glen Campbell isn't on Rolling Stones list of top 100 guitarist of all time, is shocking.
I was thinking the same thing!
is in my top 3 all time
it's a disgrace.
Right. He's one of the best of all time.
Rolling Stone has lost all credibility with the guitarist and the singer’s lists
Me being a black man who loves and plays guitar, I listen to country music every once in a while. I will say this, growing up in the 70’s I would watch Hee Haw and be amazed by this gentleman, Jerry Reed, and another guy who’s name escapes me, NOT. ROY CLARK! So many others on that show. I was teased by my friends for watching that show but I didn’t give a damn. I knew what I was watching GREATNESS. This wasn’t Earth Wind and Fire, naw man. This was another level of playing guitar all together. Country players, what can you say. Some of the best guitarist in the world.
Great comments.
Buck Owens?
Buck Owen's is the other guy on he haw
He is absolutely amqzing
Danny Gatton Albert Lee
How a single individual can be blessed with such an abundance of talents remains difficult to grasp for mere mortals like us.
Good enough to be part of the Wrecking Crew, good enough for me!
Had the pleasure of working as a stagehand when he came through my town. I was into bands like Metallica and Slayer and all i knew about Glen Campbell at the time was Rhinestone Cowboy. Wouldn’t say I was a fan. We were setting up and his crew told us that he was really sick with the flu and would only show up long enough to play his set. Showtime comes and he shows up, absolutely burns the place down, and was out the door. It was incredible. Still one of the greatest live performances I’ve ever seen.
Maestro!!!!!!!! When I was 7 he influenced me to pick up the guitar ! I’m 62 , 25 bands and 55 years of playing thanks to him ! He’s the greatest up there with Jeff Beck but can sing too !
Thank you for mentioning Jeff 💔.
I was thinking same as watching this.
So underrated rip. No effect. Prue clean sound
@@robertdillon9989 z
His 12 string 32 notes per measure solo has to count 64 notes per measure right? Would that make Al DeMiola cry? Maybe my spelling teacher will cry then.
Lineman from the county, Gentle on my mind, Galveston are 3 songs etched in my brain recalling our 1962 Chevy Impala 289, 2 speed automatic and gasoline at 19.9 pennies per gallon. Red bench front seat driving I-80 and I-70 between Golden, CO and college in Lincoln, NE. Playing spades and Rook at 55 mph in 1974-5-6, Glen was on both the pop left side of the Radio dial and the 1600 ends.
Glen Campbell one of the greatest guitar players that ever lived no question about it
You simply cannot talk about the greatest guitarists of all time without talking about Glen. And so much of it was on a 12 string! He and Roy Clark were at another level.
One can easily add Jerry Reed to that level
@@johnhofmann7031 According to Glen Campbell himself, Jerry Reed was the greatest of all time.. Praise doesn't come much higher than that!
@@robchaloner7534
Glen was just being humble . Jerry was a find guitar player but he wasn’t on Glens level.
Glen is like the Eddie Van Halen of country and Reed - Angus Young
Let’s just go ahead and add Chet Atkinson to that list too while we’re here.
Roy was insane. Could playing anything with strings better than almost anyone
Jerry Reed, Roy Clark, Chet Atkins, Glen Campbell, Lenny Breau…….5 of the greats who don’t get the recognition they deserve
To say Chet Atkins lacked recognition as a guitarist is ridiculous. Players such as George Harrison and Mark Knopfler frequently named him as a major influence when they started their careers.
@@cliffwheeler7357 I didn’t say he didn’t get any, he just didn’t get what many these days get like Hendrix, who certainly was not as good as Kath, not near.
Add Joe Maphis to the list
That would be my list. Roy Clark was nothing less than a miracle man and Jerry Reed hey when you're hot you're hot.
they ALL DID.
Glen was a shredder before it was even a thing. So good.
His innovation.
the most underrated guitarist i can think of, he is an absolute beast, he could stand toe to toe with les paul danny gatton or tommy emmanuel and easily hold his own, legend
They are good, but I believe Glen is a step above them. I really Tommy and Les Paul but I've never seen them play that well and sing that great as well.
Underrated????
I'm 66 & was watching His TV show as a kid. I was a Rock n Roll generation, but was a fan of him, Roy Clark & Jerry Reed.
Not Underrated At All.
Was part of the Wrecking Crew
@@billyclub9863 i understand all that, what i mean by underrated, stand in the street and ask 100 people who they think who was the best famous guitarist out there past or present, nobody will say Glen, i bet at least 40 percent will say eric clapton though
Lol, this guy was nowhere close too any of those guys you mentioned. I want what you’re smoking
For underrated you might want to toss in Roy Buchanan. Glen was a big influence in me picking up a guitar, aside from my Dad being one of the best pianists in the world. I never missed a show on TV. An incredible talent. I also watched Lawrence Welk as a kid. Neil Levang was the guitarist in the band. He was excellent and could play anything with strings on it. Tone Chaser-GC can hang.
that speed? and precision is fucking AMAZING! what a legend he is. always remebered
There are many great guitarists but Glen was one of “the” best!
The William Tell Overture on a 12 string is as about insane as it gets for me. He really was so underrated.
Glen always was amazing and so underrated! But if you look (and listen) closely you' find that's actually a 12-string guitar strung with only 6 strings (often done for the slightly wider fretboard action).
I was just thinking the same thing. That is total control.
Not by Alice Cooper. Search what he thought of Glen.
@@artform1364 I’d like to hear him play smoke on the water 😂😮
Bad Fuckin ass bru ❤️✊🏿💪🏾
One of the most talented players to ever pick up a guitar. A Legend.
And self taught!
@@oldtimer7635 Not true. His uncle Boo taught him.
@@arturbello4213 Of course he had help and guidance (e.g. Boo), but he never received formal guitar instruction or education. It's a big difference.
100%
Eddie Van Halen once asked how he could get a guitar lesson from Glen. Let that sink in. Glen was an incredible guitarist.
Wow. I always thought Glen Campbell was a country singer. He was a monster guitar player.
That had immense respect from the other greats. Glen is arguably top 10 of all-time.
He played on 563 sessions with the Wrecking Crew in 1963 alone.
It was said that Glenn Campbell couldn’t read music.
What a brilliant musician!
I remember fondly how our entire family would gather in front of the TV to watch the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour. Too bad there are no good entertainment shows on like that now.
Agreed. I miss wholesome television too.
I can't say I was ever a fan of his records, but Glen Campbell is, without a doubt, one of the very best guitar players ever. His solo virtuosity and his amazing work as a studio musician with the Wrecking Crew is sterling.
When it comes to raw talent with no pedals or feedback Glen is the greatest. Period.
One thing that stands out as a guitar player is his picking ability and technique. He strikes the strings with his pick on just about every note. Very few hammer on's/off's, tricks, or short-cuts. Very pure playing and immensely difficult to pick those things out like he does. Thank you Glenn!
Great analogy!!!
Don here from Hamilton NZ on my Wife's tablet, yes this guy was ABSOLUTELY QUITE SIMPLY BRILLIANT, man Iv'e been playing for 60 years but, this Guy was something special !!!
Agree totally, no tricks, just picks every note.... stunning.
Yes he was from the same school Al Dimeola comes from…
Jerry Reed was one of the few players that could keep up with Glen. Two underrated guitar legends.
People don' t realize Glenn Campbell was a member of the wrecking crew an amazing ensemble of studio musicians
He also toured as a Beach Boy!!
The Wrecking Crew was on probably at least half of the records in the 60s and 70s without credit.
Yep, the Wrecking Crew and the Swampers played on just about everything back then.
And Glen Campbell considered himself a studio guitarist (which he was), but with such remarkable charisma, he was destined to be a star.
Definitely one of the most talented guitarists ever. I'd have loved to see him play with Don Felder, lol, but perhaps in another universe. 😁🎼🎵😅
Campbell had done something early in his career to someone that caused him to be blackballed so that is why he didn't get the gigs he should have gotten?
@@mollybell5779 It's impossible to say one is better or the best. They all have their own unique talent.
Glen just had it in his soul and hands. I met him once, with my father in a parking lot in Morehead City North Carolina in the 1980s, my father and Glen had the same kind of car and struck up a conversation. You would never have know he was such a celebrity. He was just grocery shopping like we were.
That's very cool to see a celebrity just being like the rest of us.
Beyond gifted, Campbell was an absolute master of the instrument. His speed and fretboard wizardry are impressive as heck, but his melodic sensibility is truly a marvel and something all guitarists should study
Holy cow! I never knew! I grew up with GC on the radio year after year and till this very day I never knew the guy could totally shred. I need time to think. This changes everything I thought I knew. God bless your soul Glen. You brought joy to millions.
I was thinking the same thing. I also grew up with Glenn Campbells songs on the radio and also watched his tv variety show he had. I never realize just what a talented guitarist he was. To this day I still love his music.
Me...repeat what you said! Incredible!
Same here. No idea he played that well.
Do a search on UA-cam for Glen Campbell, classical gas. Pretty cool!
I understand...
This is why he was one of the Wrecking Crew.
Yep.
All I can say is Wow, why isn't Glen's incredible talent better known, or better when he was alive? What an incredible talent, one of the greatest musicians in American history.
So he had millions of notes in his head, and knew where they where on the fretboard and could access them in fabulous succession. And let’s not forget songwriting, and performing. Truly one one the greats.
Glenn was a country Shredder!
This dude could play. Fast, clean, just enough Jazz to brighten things up without making them weird.
Glen was one of the wrecking crew. They made hundreds of songs for TV, and musicians and movies 👍👍🥳🥳🥳
People think "shredding" started with guys like Blackmore, Yngwie, Rhoads, Vai, etc.... Nope. This guy was it.
Glen was absolutely a genius. I mean he had so much talent. Then to top it all, he makes it look so easy.. My word!!! Rest in peace master Glen. You will be dearly missed.... ❤❤😢😢
WE gotta have a movie about this LEGEND !!!!
I’ve been playing for years and can do all kinds of stuff on guitar. However, when I watch Glenn Campbell play I feel like a beginner on guitar. Goodness this man could play anything and with all kinds of technique, speed, and soul.
I'm like you and played for decades and I can hold my own but GC went that place beyond and lived the dream.. Thanks and take care..
Man, this what I've wanted to hear from an experienced pro guitar player. I'm thinking that Thomas guy I replied to does indeed have his pompous head up his _ _ _.
Yeah pretty much makes you just want to burn your guitars
Another vote for world class musicians and composers who can't read music! It's all about heart and soul, a good ear, a cup and a half of talent, and plenty of practice!
Being able to read music doesn't mean anything. Most people that I've heard than play by sheet music are no where near as good as people that play from the heart by ear.
It’s a great fusion of country and jazz
Glenn was one the very best guitarists. Full stop.
Glen was shredding before that was even a word. .
People don't realize how great of a guitar 🎸 player he was!
He was a freak of nature and extremely underrated as a guitarist. Add in a 5 octave voice and that hair! 😂
He was shredding long before the word was even invented...
Glenn Campbell had great songs, was a great musician as well.
Loved his music!
I could watch glen campbell play all day long he was absolutely fantastic
I had to watch it again is it still amazed at how well this man can play guitar.
Glen Campbell and Roy Clark should be highly respected for their playing.
Glen Campbell was a phenomenal guitar player, I never realized how great a player he was. I guess I was born a little to late. But WOW.... truly a legend for sure !!! RIP
Glen Campbell was a natural! Defying traditional methods, he sat in as a key member of the Wrecking Crew and performed live countless times for us and the people in his elite circle.
The LA session group of musicians was referred to as the First Call Players. Hal Blaine (Drummer) came up with the name of Wrecking Crew later.
Elite indeed and he played bass with the Beach Boys because they needed a bass player while Brian rested.. and he sang backup.. what a trip of a man.. Best GOAT..
@@PsyJaye GC sang BW's parts and backing vocals. It was when BW stop touring. GC played the lead guitar on most of their albums.
@@arturbello4213 We definitely in tune Brother.. I'm watching T-Bone Wolk work Maneater on bass.. another quiet genious.. Peace
I think this is the Kindest thing anyone can do in tribute to Glenn Campbell's fantastic Guitar Genius. Thank you so much.
You've heard Glen Campbell play guitar more times than you even know, as part of The Wrecking Crew he's on tons of music from the 60s
While best known as a country music star, the Arkansas native was an accomplished studio musician who even moonlighted as a member of the Beach Boys in the mid-Sixties. “He was one of the premier guitar players in rock and country. A lot of people don’t know the respect he had in the rock & roll world,” Alice Cooper says. “Eddie Van Halen asked one time, he said, ‘Could you get me a guitar lesson with Glen?’ Most rockers would go, ‘What?’ That’s the kind of guitar player he was. He was considered one of the five best guitar players out there.”
So…who’s the other four?
@@cirenosnor5768 Roy Clark would be one.
@@dangermartin69 I loved the way Roy looked at Glen on Ralph Emery's TV show when he did Gentle On My Mind. You could tell that he was full of admiration and love for his long-time friend. ua-cam.com/video/ETkzK9pXMio/v-deo.html
I always listen to Alice Cooper on his syndicated radio show and I was amazed when he spent an entire show relating his relationship with Glen Campbell - it really struck me as quite the mismatch.
Great guitar players need no explanation. Their playing will speak for itself.
Amazing...One of the greatest guitar players who ever lived.
Dang, I never knew Glenn Campbell could shred like that!
Glen Campbell, Chet Adkins, Roy Clark, Les Paul and Vince Gill are in thier own category
Glen and George Benson had an awesome guitar jam at the end of Midnight Special a few years back. Glen was laying down some serious jazz licks. I will never forget that. RIH Mr. Glen Campbell.
I'll have to check that out love George thanks for mentioning it.

Glen was a studio guitarist before his own recording career took off.
He could play any genre of music.
he definitely studied his Pat Martino and Barney Kessel
I remember that well!
Glenn Campbell is the man that made me wanna learn how to play guitar. I used to stand there in front of the TV when he had his Glen Campbell variety hour. My parents had gotten me this little 3/4 junket guitar, and I tried to copy right along as he was playing. And that's where it all began thanks to Glen Campbell.
Even better than I remember him - as good as any shredder today!
I remember my parents being a big fan of his. Never understood why, until I seen him play a solo. Incredible guitarist. Way under-recognized for his real talent as a musician.
I had an instructor when I was growing up who insisted that GC was the purest instrumentalist he had ever seen pick up an axe. At about 8:15 into this video, there's a clip showing him improvising his way through the musical section of MacArthur Park. Now I see what that instructor was talking about! His sound is like two great guitarists battling it out simultaneously. 🎸🎸 Clearly, a shamefully underrated musical talent.
Definitely one of the most under rated guitarists ever. This guy has solid technique, and most importantly SOUL which fast guitarist lack 99.99% of the time
"Definitely one of the most under rated guitarists ever." No, not in the professional ranks. He was a God.
Who is one of these fast guitarists you say have no soul ?
@@deanwitt7903 Lets start with YM. But Glenn is definitely Shredding on some of these
How can he be under rated when he was known as on of the best ever
@@kerrymead3885 He is not in the R&R Hall of Fame.. that's criminal
He was a musician of the extra class, both as a guitarist and as a singer
Glen Campbell doesn't need to be on anyone's list as he just may be the GREATEST picker ever...
In his later years it seems he derived some of his greatest happiness while playing his guitars because they go what the words cannot go. It is rare to see someone with such dexterous command over his instruments have both that and happiness peacefully coexisting inside the same body. For me there is something miraculous and angelic to lay witness to such events taking place in one’s presence. To have one’s ears taste the audible flavors Glen cooked up, takes audio succulence to a wholly different (and higher) plane of listening and appreciation. Glen Campbell was one of our country’s finest talents.
I'm primarily a metalhead today, (I began playing Cello, listening to Pablo Casals and going to the symphony in the mid-60s), but grew up with Glen, Roy, Buck, Chet and the other greats of that era, and dang, they had real TALENT!
A true master of the guitar! 🎸 R.I.P mr. Campbell you are truely missed.
I think that Glen Campbell's career as a popular singer detracted from the fact that he was also a superbly talented guitar player. He was of course an exceptional and very in demand session player as a member of the legendary Wrecking Crew.
Like others, my mind is blown. While I was familiar with him, I was really introduced while watching Stone Temple Pilots play with him on the Witchita Lineman. I knew he was respected and I love the song, but had no clue he could shred without even trying. What a legend.
The man was a genius!
One of the most amazing things about Glen Campbell is that even when he was in advanced stages of Alzheimer's, if someone handed him a guitar he could still play riffs like this.....
It was hardwired into him at a very young age. I recall that he would have difficulty remembering his songs until the band started playing and he got the guitar moving. Then it would all switch on.
and riffs are all they are. they are not songs.
@@helicart What do you consider a song?
Not that surprising; it's the same reason Charlie Parker could play great even strung out on heroin; muscle memory takes over where consciousness fails.
What a performer. Recording engineers and session players knew about his musical prowess. But most definitely not appreciated by the public at large for the massive talent he was.
There is no doubt in my mind - none. Glen Campbell is the greatest guitar player who has ever lived.
Not just for technique alone, but for emotion
also. I agree.
Totally agree
Possibly the greatest guitar player of all time. To me he is.
how great and underrated he was. Despite his guitar playing, The song " Lineman for the County" used to brings tears to my eyes driving home from.!!!! Listen deeply, it will change you life!!

Watching Hee Haw always hoped he would just play the guitar-didn't care so much for when he sang. Same for Roy Clark. And Jerry Reed. Getting any combination together with guitars and no vocals was a treat. He played on so many records and hit songs. And the most amazing thing is he never learned to read sheet music. He only played by ear. What a gift. He's in our "Most Underrated" video.
The history of music and the artist is very fascinating. Many lost everything but some made it BIG.
I didn’t mind his singing. Sure it wasn’t the best voice ever but it was entertaining anyhow.
Hee-Haw with Mr. Campbell as a guest was a definite treat every time he was on.
I followed his career as best I could...as a kid🎶🎸🙏
@Tommy Roc 2 amazing other guys were Charlie Daniel's and Kenny Roger's. I met Kenny Roger's here in Columbus Ohio in 1966 he was with the First Edition a rock group at the Bistro. Very cool. Miss all of those guys.
One in a million god bless you Glen
Honestly, I think one in a hundred million may be more accurate 😉
My mother used to listen to Glen Campbell - Like WTF?!? HOW DID I MISS THIS GUY?!?!?!?
Ha, ha, ha..!
I hear ya..!
“I’ll play one boys” man he sure could. Teared up several times during this video. Shows what kind of effect he could have.
Same, my grandfather, who was my only real backer when it came to being a musician, was a huge gold Era country and western, as well as even older gospel music connoisseur. I grew up on this stuff on his absolutely insane stereo. And when I say insane, I mean 12 big ass floor speakers scattered throughout the house and 6 old school Sansui quadrophonic receivers...lol. that man had me listening to this music when I was a kid in the 80s and had a guitar in my hand before I hit puberty. He passed when I was 15, 3 days before it anyway and at 40 years of age, the music that I grew up on, even though I'm a metal musician is still the driving force behind all of it, so a special thanks to that grumpy old hillbilly fart.
I discovered him 2 months ago. An absolute beast of a guitarist!
Glen and Roy Clark were popular around the same time in my childhood and at the time I thought Roy Clark was a better guitarist, but that was because there was so much of Glen's work that I hadn't seen! Wow.
Well, Roy Clark was really good, but Glen was way out ahead of Roy.
Well, one reason folks would be gobsmacked, was because so many would know him as the terrific singer that he truly was..!
How disgraceful is it that GC isn't fairly and honestly recognized by Rolling Stone Wokeazine... the 'music' periodical that used to cover Music at one time..!
😉
Glen was a studio musician. His songs never showed off his ability to tear it up. He played guitar on the Righteous Brothers “You’ve Lost that Lovin Feeling”, on “Strangers in the Night”, with Frank Sinatra. With The Beach Boys “Fun, Fun, Fun” and a few others. Elvis Presly, Merle Haggard, The Monkees and many more. In his time, he was sought after. Can you imagine if he had been in a Rock Band !! He could do it all.
RIP Glen. Thanks for waving to my little 6 year old nephew riding by on your rhinestone palmino in OKC! Still talks about that incredible moment 48 years ago!
Very cool memory, I am sure..!
WOW, what a great compilation of Glen's fantastic guitar work, he was a fabulous singer but this guitar playing is surely something that many of his singing fans knew little of.
Thanks for all the wonderful sounds and great songs you left for us Glen. RIP. Gone, but not forgotten.
Seems like Glen was always playing during my childhood. Wichita Lineman brings me right back to my grandmother’s house. In her living room. I can see it perfectly. That’s more than 55 years ago
Just beautiful to see. Thank you to the person that uploaded this clip. Fabulous. Thank you.

Glad i'm alive to appreciate this amazing talent
As a kid, I grew up listening to his albums (mostly because of my parents). Until recently, I'd no idea of just what a maestro with a guitar the man is. Listening to him just tear it up and watching his fingers dance across those frets.. Blown away would be the understatement of the year.
For much of the general public, Glen's mastery of the guitar was overshadowed by his heartfelt singing. Ironically he would have enjoyed more fame as a guitarist if he wasn't such an accomplished vocalist.
Best guitar player ever. The man was an artistic genius, a rare talent. God said He wanted to create a person to show off how to play guitar and He created Glen Campbell.
Wow! Glen was so fast my internet service provider couldn't stream it fast enough.
Big Glen Campbell fan...and there are tens of millions of us out there. I took my two sons to see the Iowa premier of the documentary I'll Be Me at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines in I think 2015. They expected 300, and 1300 people showed up. His wife and kids were there. We sat in row 3 right near them, and they talked and answered questions about alzheimers and dementia- from which my mother suffered. He was just the best entertainer... maybe ever.

I totally agree. This video made me a believer.
I am always surprised when I see so many people say they never realized how good a player he was. I can’t play a lick but I guess I’m always listening for something that stands out as different and artistic, and Glen always displayed that. He could play just about anything and it not only sounds great but could knock your socks off. He’s long been one of my favorites.
THIS EXACTLY!!
Amazing… I started playing guitar when I heard his album called 12 string guitar, which was just instrumental. He was a studio musician back then and no one knew who he was. The rest is history.
He was definitely one of the finest guitarists in the world. I first knew him as a singer. Far later I realized how good he was and started paying attention after seeing him play the lead on "25 6 to 4" by "Chicago" with ease.
No small feat. Terry Kath was a monster as well.
Breath taking technique, soulful phrasing and such a melodic giftedness to his playing! Truly wish I could have seen him live.
