The barn I boarded with used walkie talkies for the guided rides. If I was riding out alone I’d grab one for safety. We have snakes, bears, wild hogs, etc. so it was very important. The walkie talkies we had worked all over the 350 acres of trails. They were put on a bank of rechargers each evening. We are in the Appalachian mountains also. Hope your rains ease up! Love seeing the adoptions making people and horses happy!

The flooding didn't look fun at all, but it looks like everyone pulled together to get it cleaned up. Walkie talkies will definitely make things easier for you to communicate. Love seeing the adoptions, doctors visits, and auction saves.

Can you sandbag along the hill to direct the water away from the barn, at least temporarily until you find a more permanent solution?😊

A divergent ditch would be better than a damn. Also putting a berm and french drain on the hill side of the barn. Having stalled horses in perpetual damp stalls we learned to put mats at all entrances. Helped to keep the stalls dry for happier horses & staff.

Yes in Scotland we use drainage ditches and balancing ponds to cope with our frequent deluges, usually plant a bunch of vegetation round it that will suck up the water too, thorny bushes if you don't want to attract too much wildlife.

Try to find out about having French Drains put in around the barn. They are put in the ground and take the water away from a structure. Here on long island we have flood plains and people put them around their homes to keep the rain out of the basements. It works great...try to check it out since they may take care of this problem.

You need to get a big French drain with cobble fill and large bore field drain tube in it to cut off any water coming from above the barn and divert it around the side and away.

Wow, the flooding. Nice to see so many handy hands show up to help out. Now lets hope the biblical deluges quit for a while, eh?
I'm so glad Sugar got to go home with such a wonderful family who knows how to deal with hoof care and rehab. I'm sorry you had to deal with all the people who just assumed, for some reason, after all your years in rescue and finding good homes for horses, you suddenly couldn't figure out how to find a proper home for Sugar. YEESH! It must be exhausting having to explain the same things over and over to people who don't bother to read comments. I for one, had faith you knew what you were doing sending her home with them. 😊💙

Oh my god..last video l commented that you'd need and Ark after seeing a preview but goodness me that was Horrendous..have you got any sand bags to put onto that wood you've put down and they will soak up the water..hopefully you didn't damage any of the feed as it's so expensive..such hard work getting all of that done..what an amazing team you have Cindy.. but I'm sure you already know that..!! Great to see Sugar get her furever home..hope they look after her feet and don't ride her..l know they're small but her feet are so sore..Janis is hanging onto her baby..and as you say..thank goodness she didn't have it the storn night.. George is a sweetie..and poor Fergie/Effie must have had awfully cruel treatment at the hands of a woman..clearly wary of everyone but oh so much better with men..god only knows what she has suffered..but suffered she definitely has..!!
    💔😢.
Those walkie talkies were great..especially in such a big area needing to contact each other..definitely worth the investment.. l hope and pray 🙏 that the rain stopped and you didn't flood again..and just as well you got all of that hay in because that amount of rain would have ruined it..
    Take care everyone..🇬🇧💕🙏✝️👍👏🚣‍♀️🐎🐎🐎🐎🐈🐾🐈🇺🇸

With construction, people would be able to talk to supervisors around the area.

A little to add to your working theory about Fergie.
She may be more tolerant of men, but not necessarily like them.
If she’s Amish then she likely only had men working her. So in her mind, she can’t escape men, so she withdraws in an attempt to not irritate men and provoke a reaction .
Women she has less experience with, so she feels it’s worth the risk of trying to escape.
It’s hard to tell obviously from a few videos, but that might be what you’re working with.
Also ignore the hate comments about Sugar. Some people are too quick to assume there’s nothing more to rehoming than what they see on the screen. They don’t see the hours of back and forth between you and an adopter that happened before the meet and greet. Xx

This was a highly experienced home with hoof care/rehab that has adopted two others from us. What Sugar needs the most right now is time. I think it is wonderful that this home was willing to take her in and give her the time and care she needs all while being in a loving home. Sad that bothers you. And yes, our stalls need work.

I do believe she will be better off at her new home for a number of reasons.💗

Is that stall big enough for Janice to foal in???!!! I’d personally put her in an area twice that size…. she needs lots of room to turn around and not step on that baby esp as a horse with foot problems like she does! 😳
ETA: maybe that’s a huge stall and I just can’t tell, or you have another plan… just wondering

She has significant rotation that with time and management she will be comfortable. This was a highly experienced hoof care/rehab home that has adopted two others from us.
