People need to accept they’re never gunna be like IOWA again, and they don’t want to be. They were in a really dark place at the time and have said they don’t want to go back there again. IOWA and the self titled album are stand alones that can’t be replicated so the band taking a new direction is definitely a good thing and adds variety to their work.
I wholeheartedly agree. People don't understand that their music is based on whatever trauma they go through. Their music reflects their lives. Any true fan would know that. I wouldn't want Corey or the gang to go through that dark time ever again. The music was amazing for the time but that time has passed
I'm not convinced they won't go back there and revisit that sound..... this song is the parting gift to Roadrunner records. Its fuking lovely :).... it is the radio song Road runner has been asking for all these years, and it's a sic fuked up way to say give me pop money for our metal or we are done :) it's as slipknot as slipknot can get... when you unravel the lyrics.... man it's fuking sic as hell. Love it
I couldn’t agree more Tom. They aren’t young, drunks, and drug addicts anymore. They all have families and kids at this point and they are all happy. I agree that maybe at some point they will revisit IOWA content, but that will be post Roadrunner.
At that point they will be let off of the chain, and they can either do things their way and possibly create their own label, or join a label that isn’t so restricted and will let them have creative freedom.

The chorus is going to be stuck in my head for a long time, I love it. I actually enjoyed the fact that instead of going with Jim’s guitar solo, they went with Sid’s turntables. Like seeing other people enjoy Slipknot! Great reaction 💜

People keep saying that this sounds like stone sour because Corey is using his clean vocals, but I think that his cleans mixed with a heavy song is super unsettling and awesome!
I agree man, this sounds like Slipknot, not Stone Sour. There's at least one song in this style on every album since Vol. 3, Slipknot always has a variety of songs on each album.
People forget that slipknot have been doing clean vocals for years…

This is Slipknot since Subliminal Verses, since the moment they've truly found their own style and sound. If you don't like it, fine, but then you just don't like Slipknot.
@@pilotpetrov3855 exactly, those same people probably thought Slipknot "sold out" with the albums after Iowa. Bands experiment and evolve over the years, Slipknot has evolved but have stayed true to their unique sound on each album.
If a band doesn't evolve, then they get criticized for "always sounding the same". People are going to complain no matter what a band does, it's impossible to please everybody.
this is one of my all time favorite slipknot songs right now. it’s amazing.
My favorite out of the three they released,this sounds like vermilion or gehenna and i love the fact that they are giving a space to each member to shine in this 3 singles

I've listened to Slipknot since their Self-titled album and I'm fucking loving how they evolved with every album since then. This album is definitely going to leave with a bang from Roadrunner records.
This album is their last (7th) of their current deal, which was signed in 1999. Seven albums for $500,000.
I love this song men, the new sound is amazing, you can hear now the percussion sounds so good men, and they give it more presence to sid so thats good.
Is Slipknot going Cyberpunk or somethin? New sid mask kinda makes me thinks of that

Never apologize for pausing. Songs always leave a better impression when you listen to them instead of just hearing them. Pausing it, letting the verse sink in, absorbing lyrics and peeling back the layers of instrumentation and taking it all in makes it so much better. Especially for bands like Slipknot whose songs are so multi-faceted that it's sometimes hard to understand what it's about without going back for a second round.
It's a fuking lovely parting gift for road runner records.... I love it.... it's the radio song they were asking for all those years, and it's a middle finger in their face.... Sure I'll die, for lots of money, but not for you :) it's a perfect radio song for Slipknot.... can't wait till they turn down the rock and roll hall of fame.... I'll be one happy little fuking maggot on that day. No other main stream metal band represents me at all.... they all sold out, even Metallica.... Slipknot came in with fuck you all! Iowa was amazing and has it's place but for me personally I find their newer music to be significantly better. Much more depth to their music now.
How do you not LOVE older slipknot. The Iowa album is so fuckin heavy and dark, not saying the new stuff isn't good but it's hard to top how fire the early stuff really was. Going back to it time and time again it was so great.
IOWA and ALL HOPE IS GONE are the Best Albums i think.

I don't think that's what it was named after. Yen is a slang term as well, mainly for a strong desire of something, a strong craving. "I have a Yen for..etc" So in context makes sense considering the lyrics. Seems to be a Yen for another person in this case

They recently told a magazine that they would turn down being inducted to the rock and roll hall of fame, because they have been inducting pop and rap artists, and showing little to no respect to metal as a genre.
