- Michael gives a little insight into the trailers he has in the GCS hire fleet and why he buys the trailers he does.
What trailers do you have experience of?
What is important to you about a trailer?

Thank you for giving out such index view of a trailer.I never realized how many different types sizes saw
Thanks Michael, interesting
We run a fleet of Richard Western hire trailers in the South West. We are very happy with the build quality and dealer back up. We tried a couple of KTWO trailers but our customers didn’t really like them and the silage sides were not easy to put on or take off. Great video.
Thank you
Great video. Resale value is really important and the price of new equipment means it needs to be looked after, your gear us always shining, fair play to you. I,m from Ireland and we have a hugh selection of trailers too.
Belter of a video and very interesting and instructive.
A nice step up on content today Michael and really interesting to hear your thought process in the purchasing and operation of your trailer hire fleet. The ongoing development of the sheeting of trailers, is going to be interesting as I have heard through a contact of mine, that there is going to be a major push by the DVSA and Police on both the education of and conviction of those who are causing materials to be lost from un-sheeted loads.
Another good video gcs
Appreciate it!
I wouldn't but another Bailey because of the poor paintwork. It just rusts from behind.
when did you last buy one? the last few years they now have twin place paint and fully blasted after your problems
Well done Michael on the video. Its interesting how u go about buying a trailer and other equipment. The chart on the side for tyre pressures etc is an amazing idea and something i think trailer manufacturers should all put on as standard. Which trailer is the best in your fleet if u had 2 choose 1 only?
Hi Michael, good interesting video on the different types of trailers, Stewart trailers are very well made and popular up here as they are made local to me, there are a vast amount of different kinds of trailers here as well but I think the Stewart is very good for lasting as even the older ones still look good !!
I would like to know what your opinion is on fuel bowsers, what’s the best fast tow bowser ? Thanks 👍🏻
Hello again buddy! The silage tops subject was very interesting and one ive had a bit of experience with. When I was on the farm we used to run Eric cooke trailers for grain, dung and silage. Putting the tops on was a dodgy business, it was a single part top , we used to pick them up on 2 telehandlers, balance it on the trailer driven underneath, put blocks across the front corners, sit it down then remove the blocks and bolt it on, I saw it slide off more than once.
Do you have special trailers for dung work? that stuff is always full of bricks etc.
Very interesting, Thank You Michael for going into detail, We personally have a Richard Western 14 ton. Build quality is excellent, silage sides are pretty easy to fit, there again we,re not doing it 50 x a week like you 😂
Michael, the perfect all round rental trailer, most versatile will be to expensive to buy and rent. As you say one doesn’t fit all. Over spec and it costs $$. Great video and explanation of what each market requires. 🏴🇺🇸
You may be suprised how cheap they are to hire. Very cost effective
Heath trailers are very well built i wouldn't have anything else
Stewart, Trailer are the Rolls Royce, Western on a par, the rest are 2nd division, although the Irish are great trailers in my opinion, other brands bog standard, cost less a suppose, guess these brands are the best for hire fleet though built to last
Hi Michael good explanation a lot of variables to choose quality we always resell easier work has 2 Warwick grain trailers 1 old eastaby At home we still use a old weeks Have a good week thanks again
Weeks were a good and popular trailer
Good points Michael, the easy sheet conundrum with greedy boards is a tough one!
Hi Michael,
Another really interesting video on why you do certain things just like your video on buying tractors.
I really find it a good watch when sometimes your just focusing on one business decision, as your obviously doing something right and I really like how you always give your team credit also.
Hope things are eventually drying up for you 👍
Thanks 👍kind words
Interesting one again Mr GCS customer satisfaction is what you pride yourself on and looking after your machines when they return. Keep up your good work and videos
Brilliant video as always
I want to know which is the most stable on hillsides?
Fancy RW but heard they lean too much?
Rocking axles on my bale trailer which is so stable but a rougher ride if going long distance.
I have a 2015 Stewart 14-19, and I've been in some faily silly feilds, and it's felt fine, looks terrible to other people in the feild but it's not gone over yet 😊
I think easy sheets will be standard fit this year
But they won’t keep potatoes or corn dry
Hello Michael, BRAKE SLACK ADJUSTERS! Nearly every farm trailer we have in for service/safety inspection, has manual slack adjusters & if a trailer is used all the time, they need adjusting about once a month- which generally does'nt get done! The brake chamber rods are then at the full travel & performance falls off. Mandatory auto slack adjusters have been fitted on commercial vehicles/trailers for the last thirty years & cost about £30 more each & in my opinion should be fitted at the factory. Thanks for an interesting presentation & happy Easter, regds, Whitehead Machinery Ltd
Hello. Tim. Thanks for your kind words. I will look into that
Great video again Happy Easter from Ireland
Same to you!
Stewart every time
Try a smyth trailer, at least have a look, very well built
I intend to go over and take look
Smith trailers are Not a patch on Broughan for strength
No smith's or super cube smith's in ur fleet south Ireland makes best trailer s north them northern irl herron or kane bean tins 😅
I intend to go and take a look at the SMYTH? Trailers. It’s on my to do list
Come over to Ireland looking forward to your trip, great content lately michelle is a boost
Part I don't get is why long term hire men don't buy own as surely you can't operate without profit
You get 100% tax allowance on hire and you would maybe be suprised how cheap long term hire can be Also not everyone has the deposit for finance or even get finance. I’m seeing a big growth of contract hire in all aspects of machinery
@GCSMachinery admire what you do it's fantastic business
I try hard
🇮🇪🇮🇪👏👏🙏🙏👍👍
I have got to disagree with your comments at the start, a farmer buys a grain trailer, a root trailer and so forth, up to retirement i worked for a farmer/grower, large you could say, potatoes the main crop, take trailer 1, it will have to haul in its life time, spuds, corn, beet, bullock shit, lots of it!, scrap iron, rotten spuds, old tree branches, you name it, it went in them, the all had manual roll over sheets fitted, removed end of potato harvest, They were serviced every 2 years by me, after 8 years a good overhaul, again by me included a paint job, only when the arse of the trailer which could be 10 to 12 years old was scrapped. The boss never hired trailers for own use, but will when he hired in tractor & driver in busy times. So no when he bought a couple of new trailers, they had to do every thing.
What ever happened to Tim in these videos
Tim left our employment a few months ago to be a tractor driver
