When discussing wisdom vs intelligence, I always enjoyed this example. When discussing rain, an intelligent person can determine its raining. A wise person would use an umbrella or get out of the rain. Critical thinking has always been under attack. When I was in school, they eliminated for school course, civics, ethic and economics. Civic teaches you how goverent works and it's weakness. Economics teaches financial intelligence and wisdom to control your money and investment. A couple of days ago I was sent a link to an article that was, basically, a hatchet job against Tolkien's grounding in Christianity.
The most repulsive part of the entire thing, to me, was that it relied on spouting easily verifiable falsehoods - that many people are not aware of, because the culture has forgotten them.
I was thinking of what could be the proper response to such a vile enterprise, and RJ's position sounds like the best answer: create an article that shows Christianity in Tolkien as it is, transparent and incontrovertible. Not to personally persecute the slanderers, but to recover the truth and showcase it in the public sphere: to strip the liars from the excuse of ignorance, and to innoculate others against their malice.

But then you mention being able to see a pattern, how things connect. There is an exercise in IQ tests that tests a person's ability to piece together 2D objects in a 3D perspective. Now being able to create a thread, a pattern of how things are going to play out, or rather the likelihood that something will play out in a certain way utilises this ability. Yes more knowledge allows you to be better at it, but if you lack that ability you can be taught plenty of things, you're still not intelligent enough to put it into practice.
The comics industry is dead. They are totally irrelevant. They have been supplanted by Manga. And everywhere they push this ideology it goes belly up. The new Star Wars movies are hated. Most new Marvel movies perform mediocre at the box office. Excluding the new Spiderman. More and more people are running away from this crap.

I teach kids and I see natural jealousy over features that other kids have, and they cannot help.
It's usually the lower IQ, less attractive kids, jealous of the features of those who are smarter and/or better looking.
