I first became an Elvis fan while watching his Aloha from Hawaii TV concert. It aired in April 1973 and I had just turned 13. Right after the TV show I begged my parents to buy me the live album. It was my first Elvis album. It is a first pressing. It has no song list on the back. I also have two other Aloha from Hawaii albums that I purchased after ‘73. I also have the Aloha from Hawaii rehearsal album that I bought around 1989-1990. It’s also a first pressing.
I couldn’t help myself either Ed but yet to play it. I think I will though.

Ed, the newest 50th anniversary release on vinyl is the best sonic quality we’ve ever had of the concert, ever.
It’s a fresh remaster by the wonderful Vic Anesini. Can’t go wrong. 😊

Quadradisc: was a gimmick that was used to distinguish the Press from normal pressings. At the time of "Aloha's" release in January 1973 Quadraphonic sound had been developed, where the listener heard various musical tones from the Quadraphonic Speaker set-up. Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of The Moon" was originally released as a Quadraphonic listening surround experience. I have a copy of that album. Quadradisc was RCA's attempt to cash in on the Quadraphonic craze of the time. Still, I would keep those copies of "Aloha" Ed, as they are part of the Elvis story and your Families History. Stay safe and go well.
I went and picked up the new 50th anniversary album, only to come home sit back and chill and find out that my record was warped !!!
no biggie, took it back for an exchange, but I did get to listen to it before I exchanged it and the sound is awesome.
Anything Vic does for Elvis music is top notch.

Loving my copy of the LEGACY release ELVIS ALOHA FROM HAWAII boxset. I still have my double album set ALOHA FROM HAWAII from the mid 70's that I bought. And I also have the alternate Aloha from Hawaii on cd ( the rehearsal concert ) . I think the boxset from LEGACY sounds alot better than the ones I have.
As mention before I was able to get the quadradisc Japan version. Best lp and book combo.
But great to know the other versions around.😊

Good stuff sir. The sealed one you have is a record club version I think. It can range from the regular orange label, tan, or black. Would be cool if it’s tan!

Hello Ed, very good video. A version of "Aloha" that gets overlooked is the 1998 25th anniversary CD edition. The mastering was very good and it included the five bonus tracks
I have a copy of that still in shrink wrap because my first one got ruined. But yes it is a great cd and very much overlooked.
Ed you're like me when it comes to buying and wondering why did I bother. I will say I did enjoy the sound quality on the 50th anniversary edition. And I actually bought 2 copies to leave one sealed. And yes after doing so I had a big "WHY" in my mind. But I still think iit's worth having in our collections. Again another nice video, keep up the good work.

Hi Ed, another Snowman Special lp. I have several of the first additions in my collection as I back in 1973 pre-ordered mine from my local record store. The reprint release today is a joke. I do not need to add a copy of a copy from 10 years ago.
Hahahaha! Us Elvis fans, We can’t help but get every release! Glad you fixed your turntable Ed! You get too excited about these vinyl releases (as do I) to get rid of your records. I got the vinyl off Amazon and the cd box set off of shop Graceland. I hate to tell you this Ed, you’re probably not gonna like to hear it but I highly recommend getting the Aloha FTD cd box set as well. That is truly the best sounding version to date in my opinion. I didn’t wanna get it and ended up pulling the trigger and I’m totally happy I did. Love your videos Ed, always entertaining!
Hi Ed, just a follow up to this review. I watched an interview from Elvis week. 2023 where a long time RCA excutive and Ernst Jorgensen were promoting the 50th anniversary cd and lp releases of this album. They made it sound like this new release was even better then in the past issues. You might want to have a look at that as i am sure I saw snow flakes coming down above their heads.

Really great Ed I have the quad dark orange label with a not for sale on the back cover I found it at a record shop about 20 years ago I didn't know that much about it but I thought it was kind of unusual

Great collection Ed. The 4 lp set from music on vinyl is also awesome. Too bad they did not use the latest ftd mix on the new lp, that one is outstanding. When i started collecting US pressing around 2000 i found a lot of them on ebay sealed at good prices, long before the current vinyl craze. The dumb mistake i made then was to remove the shrink including the hype stickers 😖, not realizing they are of value 😤. Oh well thats how you learn. Hope that you give the new aloha a spin and hear what you think of it. Respect to you Ed from Amsterdam 👍

I was always disappointed in the British release that we got over here because we never had the cut on the sleeve showing the picture from the insert sleeve but we did get a paper slip with the track listing clear and big enough to read
We were luckier here in Australia, we got what the US pressings were. Quadradisc and all. Again, Quadradisc was RCA's attempt to cash in on the Quadraphonic music craze of the early 70s it failed miserably, just like many other things RCA attempted to do with Elvis' music: such as fake stereo on his 1950s mono releases. Indeed RCA/Sony still can't get Elvis' catalogue correct after 67 years. Stay safe and go well.

Don't feel bad because I am going to order it as well just to add it to my Aloha collection which now consists of the Deluxe Edition dvd set, The Special Edition dvd, the 1998 cd release of Aloha, The new 50th Anniversary 3 cd/Blu ray set which now I have two of because of a screw up by Amazon Prime believe it or not! So yes I will get the album just to round things out like I did with On Tour 72. But after that I am truly done for quite awhile. Great video Ed as always.
is suppose seeing as you have so many version of "Aloha", you may as well get the new version to add to your collection, even though there is nothing new to hear on it.....but i do recommend the cd rehearsal version in the cd set as Elvis fudges quite a few words in the songs and also the band sound a little different. check out Burning Love where he tentatively sings the first verse twice...
I remember buying the 30 year anniversary dvd back in 2003, and i was very disappointed about the mix. They had almost completely removed Elvis`s background singers from the mix. Elvis would have hated it. I listened to the new mix, and the backgrund singers are back in the mix. That made me very happy. I`m not a huge fan of the setlist Elvis did in Hawaii. Given the fact that he was able to reach an international audience i find it weird that he didn`t do more of his international hits like "Its now or never" "Good luck charm" "The wonder of you" "In the ghetto" "She`s not you" "Return to sender" But he didn`t.
I agree with you on the setlist suggestion. Its strange how Elvis never reached deep into his back catalogue of songs as a source of live performances. There was nothing really stopping him from doing so as he held the Copyright to most of them.
@@TERRYMism Very true. He made very wise choices for his 1968 comeback show, where he did all of his biggest rock hits, and ignored Tom Parkers idea of him doing a boring Christmas show. He should have cut back on the bigger production numbers he did for Aloha From Hawaii, and instead done more of his biggest rock and pop hits. There was a lot of really big hits he never did live. Aloha From Hawaii could have been the place to do them for the first time. Rock fans didn`t want to listen to big show numbers like "What now my love" and "My way" There was also cover songs.
@@yellyman5483 Totally agree with you on your assessment of both the Comeback Special and Aloha. However, by the time of Aloha Elvis was too set in the way his live performance song list were received by his audience, that he possibly felt that it was wiser to leave the setlist as it had been on the mainland. Poor choice in my opinion, because at this stage of his singing career he had recorded at least 600 songs. Sure, not all of those were good, but the vast majority were. With the 46th anniversary of his passing fast approaching one can only speculate what would have been the future. I do know one thing though, it would have been a future without Tom Parker. Go well.
@@TERRYMism He should have treated this as a tv show and not as a concert. That would have allowed him more freedom to do whatever he wanted. Instead it ended up being a low energy Las Vegas concert from Elvis, where he hardly moved, and the setlist was full of slow show numbers. I prefer "Elvis on tour" to Aloha, because Elvis was more energetic and did better songs. They way he moves in Elvis on tour is much cooler.
That sealed R213736 could be an orange dynaflex, tan, or black label. No way to know without opening it. It was the record club release.

R is the Record Club. New LP has wrong air date. Plus you need the 33 Juke box EP. Stop by we can compare. Anything With RE has titles. Black label shows RE2 and the beat goes on

My copy has no sticker, but also has no track listing on the jacket. The records themselves have the same quadradisc at the top. But… Mine also differs in that my jacket interior is the world map (printed upside down) and the photo that yours has on the interior is printed on the record sleeve.
Hi Ed, on the back of the new LP, in Planet Saturn, it says that the concert was broadcast on January 24, 1973, not January 14, 1973 ! What a Mistake !
January 24 is the day it was “mixed” in 1 day !!! 😊

Got to know if the blu ray improves on the dvd before I buy the 50th anniversary set. Haven’t been able to find any reviews on the blu ray as yet
I’ve watched the bluray and it is no better than the DVD if you ask me. The CD’s though sound fabulous!!
The Blu ray is the same as the Deluxe dvd set. No change at all Video or audio quality wise.
Where can I buy this? Also I just bought a 1960’s master 6 lps box set not sure if I paid a fair price at 120.. it was still sealed
The originals can be bought on Discogs for a hefty price. Other than that, the new release of "Aloha" is widely available through specialist Elvis shops such as The Elvis Shop in London. Personally I would go with the 2022 FTD release of "Elvis Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite" its a three disc set that has fantastic sound. However there is no Blue Ray Disc. Apparently other's who have the newer set of Aloha have stated that the FTD Version is superior, and that the Blue-Ray offer's nothing new and again, apparently it's a bad digital transfer of the concert.

From other's that have the Blue-Ray, they state that the Digital Transfer is a bad copy of the concert and offers the viewer nothing new. I have the Deluxe Edition of "Aloha". Its a two disc DVD set I can highly recommend it. However, that copy is not Blue-Ray. That version has a running time of 242 minutes.
Has anyone else had problems on side C of the 50th anniversary vinyl set? Both copies I have bought have bad popping and surface noise when What Now My Love and Fever play, both copies have the same issues in the exact same spots. Very disappointing.
I haven’t listened to mine yet. Will keep an ear out for it though and get back to this comment…could take months though 🤣👍

Nice collection, it has an historical importance for sure, but I think it lacks energy, almost boring at times, just compare Johnny Be Goode Las Vegas '69 version and the Aloha version, two worlds apart
It was two worlds apart due to Elvis wanted everything perfect doing the Aloha show. Not to mention he only had the Satellite feed for only an hour and he couldnt replicate what he already did at MSG a few months prior.
