    After watching this video, I'm gonna stick with HDZero. I started out with analog, then went to DJI and latency was insane. HDZero fixes that. Even at 2:12 where you said you was blind, I wasn't blind at all and could fully see through that, and it was only for a couple seconds, and that was only because you hovered. I have one more LR DJI quad left in my arsenal and a couple analog, I'll be changing it to HDZero and take advantage of the new feature that came out last month and set the camera to 1080p/30, and use a GoPro for picture quality...

      @sco0trot0r18 i must admit that the hdzero breakup is much more noticeable than analog. With analog there is more of a gradient scale where the colors slowly disappear, and then the static comes in. With HDzero it's ful "rainbow sparkles in your face!"

    • @Vousie
      @Vousie Рік тому

      Also, the frames where HDZero is kinda covered in static are the same frames where DJI/Walksnail would be stuttering/dropping frames... DJI/Walksnail don't really have "better penetration" - they just hide the missing image data by showing you old data.

    • @Vousie
      @Vousie Рік тому +1

      @@TheCivildecay That is one thing I wish HDZero would change - give an option to have it be black breakup instead of rainbow as it would be way less noticeable.
      Since the goggle firmware is open-source, I wonder if it might be possible to change it in there, or whether it's coming out of the two custom chips with the rainbow sparkles already there...

      I'm going to fly a bit at lunch and see if I get anything better, but I've been flying everyday this week and fiddling with it. It hasn't improved. At all.
      I tried out my Walksnail earlier too and it is still worse than HDZ, so analog and real digital (DJI) are the only things I will be using I guess. HDZ is not good. Walksnail is worse. Analog looks just as good as HDZ and has range.

    Some interesting points, Ive always flown analog never any digital based system so I can’t comment on what they are like to fly and been on the fence for so long considering which system to move too probably since hd zero first started to be tested when Ryan was posting all the testing leading up to the release an it was looking good, then Walksnail started to come on the scene and it was like arrr another spanner in the works. I would say I have a good analog picture and can manage it well, I think what I’m most concerned about switching to a digital system is the higher latency and not liking it, not so much with hd zero because it’s low latency any way that’s more if the breakup is going to better, worse or about the same as what I get on analog so will I be gaining much. I guess for me it’s opposite to you in the sense that your going from high image quality high latency to more breakup and lower latency, I like the analog feel probably because it’s all I know and gonna stick with, maybe HD zero would be the right choice for me. I fly DJI 03/Vista with Goggles 2 and HDZero with the HDZero goggles. I prefer to fly the HDZero for my intense Low Latency Freestyle daily ripping. You can get closer and fly with a higher level of risk due to the lower latency. I use the DJI for spots where I need the penetration and a super solid connection. I run ELRS F500 with both video systems. I also have the Walksnail VRX for the HDZero goggles and that nicely fits between both systems. I'm going to Europe next month and I'll be bringing the Goggles 2 and Quadmula Siren F3 with DJI 03 (Sub 250 build) with me. I'm taking the DJI Goggles 2 on my trip because of their compact nature for my overall FPV travel kit. Also, the HDZero goggles fit on the face way better than the Goggles 2 and the HDZero goggles work great when ripping 8-10 packs. The 90 camera is nice, but sometimes the Micro v2 camera is a little better with the 720p instead of 540p. Depends on the spot and the amount of ghost branches. I am happy to own both systems.

    Your break up is suspicious, I absolutely don't get that much at 1W especially that close . Idk what antennas your are using, but in the situation you were you should use High gain omnis and or patches. TrueRC stubbies are low gain, good for the sides but high gain on top like lillipops

    • @Vousie
      @Vousie Рік тому

      Well, I would say two directional antennas & two omnis (eg lollipops) is the best idea. Some people run four directional antennas (when doing "medium range") and unless they're a really experienced long-range pilot who's good at pointing antennas in the right direction (usually doesn't work for freestyle), it generally results in worse performance than if they just used all omnis.
      My first fpv goggle actually came with two low-ish gain patches, and I thought they probably give a wide enough angle that one or the other would always be pointing to the quad. Eventually I bought an omni and it instead of one of the patches and I got much better signal at the exact same flying spots as I was before.

    The Betaflight OSD on DJI is working now, and since BF v4.4 its in HD mode so you can put things anywhere and you could root the goggles and it works. its very easy really. just takes alittle time. the o3 air unit seems to have a lower latency then the original air unit, especially if you run it in Focus mode, and not record on the drone or even the DVR if not necessary.. it all seems to help the number go down slightly from the already pretty good latency for digital and that level of image quality in day light, but maybe with an pretty dark ND filter on it to keep the camera in focus after coming from direct sunlight to a dark area on the ground it would normally take the camera a second to up the iso and adjust the shutter to brighten it all back up...

    I think what people are discovering is that they see better with DJI and the fly better with HDZero. With HDZero being able to do last minute corrections to minimize crashes and to just line up gaps easier at speed makes your freestyle look fast and really really good. It's a tough decision to choose between seeing better and flying better.

    • @ogpennywise
      @ogpennywise Рік тому

      I fly better when I see better. The latency in DJI is a non-factor. I have yet to wait on a command I send to be executed. There is no discernible difference that I can see. Having a big wall of rainbow pop up when you are 50 feet out doesn't help me fly.
      I, personally, prefer DJI. Right now. If these other players can do some R&D before they release alpha products, they might make headway. But releasing a product and hoping everyone helps you shake the bugs out, isn't ideal. And I'll show my displeasure by lambasting their horrible practices.
      So, I see people discovering that DJI is vastly superior in image quality and that it translates to a better flying experience. I also see myriad complaints and threads saying the same as most people on this video - they aren't ready to compete yet and they have too many bugs that shipped. Deliberate or not, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
      But this video, and others like it, should only be comparing apples to apples and have Walksnail and HDZero duke it out for a faraway second place.

    I think hdzero vs dji will always be a battle. I started flying analog few years ago and made the switch to hdzero this winter. Few weeks ago I also started with walksnail. And for now, the variable latency thing just messes my flying completely up. Doing a flip behind multiple trees, latency goes up and zack, flip ends being a shitty flip.
    Of course penetration with dji is waaaaay better than hdzero. So in a bando hdzero has even less range than analog.
    But for normal freestyle and even LR (8km) i prefer HDZero at the moment and its range is mostly on pair with analog.
    But perhaps I will adapt to the variable latency and start using walksnail. Lets see. But right now, for example my latest video, I dont think I would have been able to do this with walksnail or dji. 👍🏼 That’s some amazing flying!
    I bought a pair of the HD-Zero goggles (only goggles) for use with my Mavic-3 / RC-Pro setup.
    DJI screwed us as always with the Goggles 2 model. Just like they did with the V.2 goggles….
    They did NOT include the HDMI input feature that their DJI Goggles RE (“Racing Edition).
    I have the Goggles RE, but the weight is way too heavy for me.
    (I have Ankylosing Spondylitis, which has fused most my spine)
    So, when DJI’s first FPV type Goggles came out, I assumed it would also have an HDMI in port.
    When the V.2 Goggles were announced, I asked my drug dealer (drones ARE a drug! 🤣) if they would be including HDMI.
    They told me that the video signal would be passed through the USB-C port. Of course, I got burned again.
    I then bought a pair of Orqa FPV One Pilot Goggles and they have been great!
    I only experience the occasional error message on screen.. but that’s only when sending the video signal through a passive 4 port HDMI splitter.
    I then got the HD-Zero Goggles and am VERY impressed with the build quality and video quality.
    The only “flaw” with them is the foam quality. It feels too thin, especially the face.
    But they really did a phenomenal job on the design and build.
    I was also just told the new DJI Goggles 2 were now compatible with the Mavic-3, so I picked up a pair.
    Sadly, it turns out that the Goggles do not have HDMI in, but use RF instead. The goggles are fed with the video signal directly from the drone…. AND.. the drone will not function with the DJI RC-Pro controller.
    The best fitting of all of these Goggles?
    The DJI V.2, followed by the Orqa. The HD-Zero is not the most comfortable, but this can probably be remedied with some foam “mods” in-house.
    Goggles have really made “camera drone” a tremendous experience for me.
    Thanks to the FPV folk who popularized the use of goggles.

    So it's been a few weeks. Worth the switch? I have the V2s, run vista/nebula for freestyle. I want to get a set of goggles for micros/whoops. Can't decide between the fatshark HD or HD zero. I know eventually as the years go on amd the V2/Vista phases out and it's hard to get stuff I will use whatever I choose and retire the vista's. But damn I can't decide which to get.

    • @Vousie
      @Vousie Рік тому

      For micros/whoops I think HDZero is definitely the best option - it's the lightest: For camera + VTX, walksnail's "mini" set is 10.3g, whereas HDZero's "whoop" set is 6g. That makes quite a difference in 75mm quads, for example.

    There is really no comparison. After getting the goggles in and updated, I’m left wondering where the money went? It looks more analogish right now. The vrx looked better but that was because skyzone was making up for what the vrx was lacking. 800 bones after all is said for the goggles, remember it does not come with antennas - all 4 of them, and I’m left scratching my head about why it looks so much l8ke analog with less penetration and range. Just my opinion based on using all of them.

      But not dealing with these clowns is worth it in the end.
      If you think HDZ is bad, stay away from Caddx/Walksnail/Whatever other companies they are using the name of. Diatone has some nasty customer reps. iFlight and Newbeedrone drug out some support until I got my bank involved. RDQ - well, I don't shop there anymore either. Ugh, and don't bother with Flywoo, so much piles of broken crap from them.
      I find that I will run out of suppliers that make and sell good products before I find one that does good. GepRC has not done me wrong yet, and I'll reward them until they do. Most of my fpv stuff now comes from Germany - they seem to still take pride in making quality a priority. So far.

    It's funny. Everyone was use to static to let them know they were reaching the end of our analog video range. DJI comes out and it's a different kind of thing that lets us know when we are about to run out of range. But people were use to the static so they said they wanted the static. So HD Zero makes the static but most of the people got use to the sides of the video getting blurry and now most of us prefer the DJI way.
