You know what would have sounded even better
If the guitar would be in tune
probably having to change the strings three times does that lol
It's how he plays. Every video the same
If you press down on your strings too hard it causes them to play sharpe
they might be using a string gauge that’s too low for them and they’re not used to it so they pick too hard idk
lol
14:47 for comparison
you're a godsend
Thank you. So much talking to skip.
true hero
Tq bro
How would it sound in tune?
@@55maltesers you can adjust intonation
Like they Gave a shit .. but alas .. chimpman
@@karls.623 Homeboy Chappers just dropped a video about how he doesn't think that the Evertune is necessary.
And for sure, maybe it's not, but I've always felt that some of Chappers' videos could really benefit from some tighter tuning :)
@@55maltesers Lesser known? Schecter is pretty well known and respected world wide...
Those Bare Knuckles sounded great.
Glad to see a pickup shootout on your page Rob, I feel like this type of video is the one that your channel has been largely missing in the last few years. And of course, all gear nerds love pickup shootouts. If you haven't been able to tell, I vote for more pickup shootouts (with different pickup models of course).
I wouldn't put much trust in a Seymour Duncan artist's pickup shootout videos, though :p
I'd probably be happy with any pickup as long as I had a Silverback to blast them through. :-)
So true ^^
What's that?
Rob/ Dave do america has been so great! Joe seems like a super nice guy too.
Thank you guys so much, I’ve been debating on the invaders or the war pigs for the last couple months and I went with the invader because it was cheaper but the warpigs were still in the back of my mind. The invaders have that nice crisp distortion and it just sounds fuller, fatter than warmer, absolutely love it. Thank you for putting my mind at ease
How does it sound? Out of tune.
Thought it was just me!
askin all the right questions my guy..
Te only thing I know about BARIUM is from the medical world. Barium, when suspended in a liquid, show up on x-rays. This barium mixture is used in tests when a person is having a difficulty in their G.I. track, from swallowing, to abdominal pains, to bloody vomiting. Essentially, you drink the barium mixture and you are then put into an xray machine, and the doctor watches the barium travel through your system, and since the barium shows up on the xray, looks for any abnormalities.
As far as pickups goes, I have no idea.
It's a chemical element, not a metal (as assumed in the video).
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barium
Maybe if you swallowed one then it would be easier for the hospital to locate.
rcoveyduc barium is still a metal. It's in the alkaline earth metals family on the periodic table.
I've had both the barium swallow test (you drink a nasty barium milkshake then they put you on a table and spin you around coating the inside of your stomach and x-raying it)
Then I had a gastric emptying test (eat a meal of nasty barium eggs and toast then get an x-ray every hour for 6 hours as the food moves through my body)
They were both awful, but the barium is less dangerous than the x-ray, the radiation it emits is so weak it doesn't really effect you, I had these tests only 2 months apart, and the doctors were more concerned with the number of x-rays I'd had.
rcoveyduc Barium IS a metal...
Great to know Schecter are getting it right, I think I prefer them too. I'd love to see a similar video on how a cheap vs an expensive guitar sound with the same pickups, it might make it easier to invest in a better guitar. Cheers mates!
Having watched this video while wearing headphones, I'd have to agree that the Schecter pickups sounded best for me. Although without having such a close comparison, any of those choices would be great. 🎸
Damn! I'm surprised with the Schecter stock pickups. They sound just right for that guitar. Nice video!
That was a real shock in some ways, insomuch as I also preferred the Schecters, whereas I was expecting to prefer the bare knuckles, but, as you said, the guitar/pickups are voiced around each other. Very enlightening.....
oh those Bare Knuckles kick ass.....i just happen to have a schecter to drop em in too
I totally agree with you boys... the sound of those schecter pickups are simply unic... I've been playing guitar for over 25 years and can note the difference with all respect to others. The price of that guitar matches its quality 100%
Lovely tones as always rob much support x reallly liked the bare knuckes
Its amazing how much different the ceramic sound from the other ones. The schecters were definitely the winner, bare knuckles were best on clean.
From the video (and youtubes audio compression) I couldn't really hear much difference. That said I really my JBJazz Seymour Duncans. Maybe there would be more of a difference in a range of medium output pickups?
My god, the second PRS from left to right is GORGEOUS
great work rob and friends :)
Agreed!
Great video,I think this demo has sold me on getting a Schecter guitar.
How does it sound clean Dave?
Sounds out of tune is how it sounds.
I have an old Charvel circa 1990's with stock pick ups. It sounds ok but I am getting neither a full clean sounds or sweet screamers with the distortion on. Would I be doing myself any favors by putting new pick ups in or is an old Charvel simply not the vessel I should use? Thanks for any feedback
This was a great video. All guitar videos need this type of comparison.
Hey Rob is the Chapman ml-2 Pro modern in dusk going to be continued into next year? Or will there be a new line up of finishes? Probably a dumb question to ask, But I just like the faded blue finish. Really wanted to buy one this year but I'm 17 and broke. Well, as long as there's some sort of blue fade type thing staying I is a happy boi.
The invaders sound great! Thanks for the comparison!
Rob what are the impedance of each ? I have a set of emgs that are 18 ohm plus that’s not even with an 18v mod I also have a sd sh10 that’s pushing 15ohm so I think it really matters a Friday pickup vs a Monday pickup
Great vid. Useful for deciding on pick ups. Thanks. YO Joe! Yes that was a GI JOE reference
the setup i went with for the guitar i'm making is, Nazgul trembucker - bridge, Cool rails - neck. both Seymour Duncan.
Bear knuckles definitely had some extra umph in them. To me they sounded best without distortion. Powerful clean sound. Would imagine the sound with a little delay and EH canyon ranch, yeah just ear candy.
All great sounding pickups but absolutely no need to change the stock ones! Excellent video :D
Fantastic video!!! I liked the bareknuckles the best.
Problem with alnico V or over winds, is they sound good gained up, but clean not as much, I’ve gotten used to playing low wind alnico II’s and using a boost pedal to kick it up a notch when I need it
I can’t believe how good the stock ones sound. I would NOT change them. Schecter definitely did their homework choosing the right voice for the body and neck.
Wouldn't you be able to tune any pickup to sound like the other just by adjusting the high mids and lows on the amp?
I have that very guitar, with a Floyd rose, and EMG 81/85. These pickups are amazing. They were my first powered pickups. The sustain and squeal I get is just amazing. It really makes this guitar sing.
Oh yea!!
Thanks rob!!
I'm currently building a filthy shred machine and was looking at the war pigs. Very helpful!!
This might be a little weird, but I think I'd be perfectly happy with any of the three combinations. Guitar always sounded great.
I'd love to see what you think of the Fishman Fluence pickups, I've been saving for some to put in my eight-string.
Great vid guys!! Schecter gets my vote as well. I just bought a Schecter Banchee 6 Extreme a while back so this was interesting! I want to keep the Schecter p/u in the bridge for the heavy stuff but I would still like to find something for the neck position for the sweet stuff.
This kind of confirms to me that pickups do make a difference, but a good amp does more!
I think every kind pickups has their own purpose for any guitarist, someone probably like the schecter, someone probably like the others... such a great review, rob...
Love your vids!!
Maaan those Bare Knuckles sound damn good. Might have to actually save up for a set of those.
FYI the Duncan Invader was famously used to get “That Sound” by Synyster Gates, Jake E. Lee(Bark at the Moon), James Hetfield (Master of Puppets/Pre EMG), Doyle from the Misfits, and many more.
I just got a banshee elite and they stock schecter pickups are the best sounding pickups I've ever heard. Really loud and full as well as dynamic. Amazing guitar that has all the spec you could want for a grand.
In my opinion the War Pigs sounded better with distortion and the stock Schecter pickups sounded better clean.
Awesome!
Love to see the Duncan hot rod set and Duncan distortion set in a PRS S2 Custom 24
Thanks guys!!
this is awesome and very helpful 😄 thank you
I have a Seymour Duncan Invader in a Hamer Cali. Guitar it's ok, but I have an old Seymour Duncan Heavy Metal Live wire That kills just about everything. However it's downfall is it absolutely does not clean up. I've heard the newer versions have fixed that issue, but they don't sound the same as mine.
On another note, what's the deal with that Black Label Audio Amp? I need that in my life lol, Cheers!
What is this Black Label Audio stack in the background? I can't find any information on it.
Good question, they haven't been released yet? wyldeaudio.com/collections/amps
Looks like the Master 100 was out there but is gone, they layout of this one is a bit different though. Could it be a hotrodded JCM800 style amp?
The schecter ones have more bite, so I'm guessing a bit more mid to upper mid? Or am my built in spectrum analyzer flawed?
Don't care what they Internet says, I wanna see this with a Chapman guitar. Really curious to see if other brands are or if the Chappies can hold their own.
And when are we getting the stand alone Chapman pickups?
Barium: Typically what happens when hospital treatments fail...
Known to be similar to nitrates, which are generally cheaper than day rates.
LMAOOOOO you win the comment wars
Man, that nitrate/day rate joke is at least 50 years old.
How about coming up with something original?
Though they all sounded good, but I really was into the schecter pups!
I'd be interested in seeing a shootout of some Gibson '57 Classic pickups vs. the Seymour Duncan and EMG pickups designed to sound similar. I know that I've generally preferred the sound of the Gibsons when watching videos of different guitars, but I'm curious as to how much of that is psychosomatic. Shooting them out with the same guitar ought to clarify the issue.
I go with the third option, the Bare Knuckle War Pigs.
Excellent comparison! Same guitar, amp, player and letting the chord ring with good overdrive.
my c1 hellraiser has schecter brimstone pups....how do they compare?
What Schecter pickups were in the guitar? Were they the Sonic Seducers, Pasadena USA, or the Diamond Humbuckers?
Thank you Chappers! I own SCHECHTER C6PRO AND I have to agree with you on this one..
My Schecter just sings to my like a goddess with its factory stock pickups. I own Ibanez mainly with dimarzio, Fishman fluence and EMG and I've got to say without word of a lie my Diamond decimator pups are THE BEST I've ever player in my humble opinion for my style of high gain chuggety chug chug.
Great review, thanks fellas...
Back in the 90's I worked in a guitar shop , we used a Fender Strat with the Swimming Pool Route and special rail mount , to test prototype pickups and to let customers test them. You could switch pickups without removing the strings or using a soldering iron, do to the spring type Speaker connectors .
I must be tone impaired because I thought the Bare knuckles had that Gibson spank to them which I liked but on the clean they had a fender - ish Vibe. I totally dig those. They all sounded really well though. what pots are in that circuit?
Rob has become a much more flavorful lead player since I started watching these videos a few years ago. +1
Please do this with single coils! I’m stuck between upgrading my tele to texas specials, bare knuckles or seymour duncans and would love a comparison
how can knowing the coils resistance be helpful? having a high coil resistance is advantage or disadvantage?
It would be great to tune the guitar first :)
yess...
I'm not sure I've ever heard Rob play in tune.
how come Rob never plays in tune for an expert shredder this is disgraceful!
How did they change pickup without tuning each time
straight outta tune : (
and every time Rob's doing *ugh* he's like *utter bulshiet mine friend*
also, BK ftw
Who makes that Black Label Amp? I've been searching everything I can think of and can't find it.
I liked the Schecters too. I just recently discovered the difference in sound between alnico and ceramic pickups by trading a guitar for an Ibanez S540 with ceramic pickups. It's hard to describe the difference but they just sounded much more responsive to my picking dynamics.
To my old ass ears, the Bare Knuckle's all the way. I'm curious about that the unicorn sitting behind the guys. That Wylde Audio amp? Did that fizzle out?
Where do you get that black label audio amp?!
A little tip for you: the magnet is responsible for how the pickup sounds! Comparing 2 ceramic magnet ones will yield similar results.
However alnico 8 vs ceramic vs alnico 5 will sound completely different bc of the frequencies each magnet focuses on. Either way if you need versatility: add parallel and spin and split mods to your pickups for a real tone machine
What do I think? I think through my computer speakers all three sound pretty much the same, and not really worth the money or the trouble of changing the pickup in my 17 year old C-1+.
I love Seymour Duncan ! Good sound!!!
So I have an LP my stock neck burst bucker is way!!!!!!!!!! Too dark. Any suggestions? Adam Jones tone is my all time favorite. He supposedly uses a Duncan JB in the bridge and a jazz in the neck. I actually really like my bridge sound, it is like 75% more bright than the neck is. The neck is almost unusable in how just definitely dark it is
I liked all of the pickup sounds. I agree that the schecter pickups sounded the best, but what would the best pickup combo be for hard rock and heavy metal? Tunings in E standard, D standard, and C standard
Probably the invaders they’re like the Duncan’s JBs of hard rock. If I’m not mistaken deryck whibley of sum 41 has a bridge invaders in his telecaster deluxe.
But it really depends on what you want it for eg lead, rhythm or whatever. And if you wanna it to be flexible and usable in other genres.
Or you could just get a JB and a Jazz they’re useful in every genre, billy-joe of greenday has a jb in the bridge of his strat that he used for almost all of green days earlier stuff
Why would you test alnico pickups vs ceramic pickups? Did you think it would yield better results? You should have used the ceramic Warpigs IMO especially when you have access to them.
YES! Still love the invaders even though I own them. To my ears they're the most single coil-y sounding humbuckers on the market. I have a set of them in my old Ibanez RG
I have a pair of Seymour Duncan Blackouts, and I love em.
More importantly what's up with that black label amp there in the middle?
Hi Rob! I'm a huge Slash fan, should i change my les paul pickups to Seymour Duncan Slash Alnico II Pro Humbucker Pickups?are they worth it\are they good? Love you and your content!
Depends on how much you like the pickups in your LP at the moment.
Yoni Kup JBs do the job for any of those slash sounds
I am here with a very lame question may be but still I would like to ask everyone out here...I have a $100 guitar(origin unknown..i dnt know what kind of wood it has )no result even on google search...so under this condition if I like to go for duncan pickups will it be worthy enough to spend the money on it...this one was my first electric guitar which i bought from a local music store 7 years back which plays pretty well when played with processor via sony hi-end MDR XB series headphones...can handle dirty patches or tube amp like presets pretty well (never tried on amp tough) currently I have Ibanez RGA42FM...any kind of suggestions and feedbacks are most welcome...Thank you
If you can get a hold of Randall Ultra XL pickups i would recommend those for a shootout. They were only stock in certain runs of their models but just amazing. I have one pair but wish to own more. I look for Old Washburn models for sale so i could possibly get my hands on two to three more pairs. They give high gain tones such a fluid response. Peace out.
What is that halfstack behind rob with the skulls?
I personally preferred the sound of the bareknuckle pickups but they all sounded good through that amp.
I recently acquired an older Seymour Duncan 59 SH-1 that happened to be wound by Maricela Jaurez ! I believe it's something special ........anyone have any idea of the real value of such a find ?
That Sunn amp sounds amazing. They (Fender, they own the Sunn brand) really need to bring Sunn back to the market.
Interesting comparison, though. I was expecting the Bareknuckles to sound distorted when clean, given their high output, but they're crystal clear.
I think they all sounded great in their own unique way. However I thought the shecter ones sounded the best over all. I have some pretty nice prs guitars, a caparison, and some fenders and I've kept the picks that came with them. I've tried switching out to something different but went back to the originals. They sounded best with that particular guitar. Great video. Cheers gentleman!
Remember Schecter was doing PUPs before they were a guitar company. They were the first to offer tapped single coils. They were among the best places to go to upgrade your axe back in the day. So they have a long history of R&D with pickups
Weird because I had a Schecter omen 6 and thought.the pickups were the weak point overall... Now I'm considering a Schecter Van Nuys or Nick Johnston but can't decide if I'll like the pickups 😅
What's the Black Label amp behind you?
Please do one with the alpha and omega set from Duncan! I’d love to see what pickups can articulate bigger chords like 9s, 11s, and 13s with gain
Honestly, I liked the Warpigs the most. They sounded tight as fuck to me!
The Schecter Banshee on its own is a killer guitar. Those Supercharger Mach's are really underrated. I have one of these guitars and it's fantastic.
I noticed the WarPigs were reasonably bright for being very high powered (high resistance). That's something the design can do, but it's rare. I'm wondering if a new realm of full-frequency tone is possible at higher energy vs the low resistance designs usually considered the only way to get an open high end with all the harmonics.
throughout this video there's a voice in the background that is saying, "Fishmaaaan... Fishmaaaaan"
What's with the Black Label Society amp? Is that a Wylde Audio amp?
Black Label Audio amps?
The punch in the Bare Kunckels are Amazing.
I'm more Alnico guy, but I liked Schecter's distorted bridge the best, and the most beautiful sound I heard today was from invader's clean neck. Sounded great for ceramics. Praise Chappers 🙌🏻
Hey why did you remove the Katana versus Kemper video!!???
