  • Blindfolded Pickup Challenge - My favourite revealed
    Seymour Duncan invited me to visit and work on a new pickup for Chapman Guitars, such an amazing experience and one I'll never forget! I blindfold tested 5 different pickups and found one that I absolutely loved - Can you guess what it was?

    That's crazy. I always assumed the invader would be unruly and unpleasant. But as soon as you started playing pickup number two, I too was like...that's the one. And the poles had me fooled because I just saw big, gold lugs, I didn't realize they were the big, Allen headed invader screws. I couldn't wait to find out what it was and hoped it was a standard model. Never would have guessed "invader". 30+ years of dismissing that pickup and now I'm 🤯.

    I like 2 the best as well. A nice hearty mid with plenty of good high end and more clarity. HOWEVER, that #4 in split middle position was something else. It’s so hard to get that kinda tone but retain more clarity across all the strings. Purring was such an apt description of that sound

    Rob great challenge , its funny how we listen with our eyes and hearts sometimes , the blindfold really gets you to take in the sounds from your playing and the amps response to the pickups in the guitar , its amazing how the woods and outputs of the pickups and magnets really affect the sounds we hear , Seymour Duncan make so many great pickups! I love how you found a new p/u to throw in that beautiful guitar !

    …that’s kind of strange. The Invader is generally SD’s worst production pickup; muddy, wooly, mushy. Sounds fine on its own but in MANY shootouts with other pickups it comes in dead last. This one is clearly not stock/standard.

    • @nvmbrsdoom5
      @nvmbrsdoom5 2 роки тому

      I've used Invaders for years and never had an issue with it being wooly and mushy. I see people saying this and everyone's experience is their own, I get it, but I've never had that problem and I know plenty of other people who use this pickup as well. And I've only ever used standard off-the-shelf Invaders, no custom shop rewinds or anything.
