I remember actually being excited to visit Walmart when I was a kid. That was from the late 90s to the early 2000s. Somewhere around 2010, in my opinion, things really started changing. My folks were able to purchase some good quality izod shirts that I still own from Walmart. Now, it seems like everything that I get from there degrades quickly. I don't enjoy going there anymore; in fact, if I can help it, I will make Walmart the first store that I go to in a shopping run so I don't have to think about going there later on. As a kid, Walmart was our last stop, and the one that I enjoyed the most. Thanks for making me remember those yellow stickers @coyote_302; that was a good memory. :)

Their electronics department used to be amazing in the late 90's-early 00's; there was a huge selection of videos games for PC, Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and SEGA. There was also a ton of great selections for movies and music, too. Now, at least the few stores I've been to, the department has decreased dramatically and their selection for movies and games are almost non-existent in comparison to back then. They do have a nice selection of vinyl records, though haha.

Pretty sure a few took their own which is super sad but I’m sure corporate won’t investigate into why. Not to mention one of the peoples sons worked there too and management wasn’t too happy that he couldn’t show up for a few days. It was clear the kid was depressed but they kept adding onto his work load until he quit or got fired. My boss is constantly stressing over the simplest of things. We are majorly understaffed too. I run the sporting counter and paint counter so if you need paint while I’m making a license you have to wait because there’s only one of me, unless I get lucky and my boss is there that day. Good luck getting spray paint while I’m making a license or mixing paint too because I’m the only one with the keys you have to wait. I’m honestly looking for something better , Walmart keeps adding stuff to do when people quit. Most of the time it’s hard to please the customers when they’ve been waiting at the counter for 20 minutes all because I was a few isles over doing stock or in the back putting things into the bins or getting freight. I try my best to make them happy but they say I should do better. Sorry I can’t be two places at once.

I have had 2 Supercenters in my area for as long as I can remember. Looking back, I can remember Walmart being a more interesting place to shop. They used to sell all kinds of specialty stuff, but they stopped I guess because it cost too much to maintain. I remember Walmart almost looking darker and kinda more chill, but that could just be my imagination. Nowadays, they seem to design everything around making the most money possible, not making things cheap without compromise. Seriously, one of the Walmart stores in my area now has one way gates at the entrance to keep people from stealing stuff. Also, before corona, they had people scanning every receipt for some reason similarly to Sam's, just while still having the buzzers, unlike Sam's. I'm glad they stopped that because of the pandemic. The other Walmart in my area actually still doesn't have the gates and still feels a little more like an old Walmart since it hasn't been heavily remodeled recently, but Walmart just doesn't feel quite the same anymore.

Sadly wal-mart took a turn for the worse starting in about 2006. Nowdays they are just a shadow of what they used to be. Actually the downturn started just after Mr. Sams death in 1992 but as long as Helen was around those who wanted to change the company could only move slowly. Everything Sam believed in and worked for is gone now. Nobody even knows what the "10 foot rule" is anymore. The name needs to be changed to "CHINA JUNK Mart" the way they operate now. Sad Sad Sad

Kmart was attempting to be like Walmart in the 1990s but had to rely on suppliers like SuperValu and Fleming to stock their supercenters. Instead of advertising and building their own grocery distribution center in a manner how Walmart has done for their supercenters, the supercenters weren't advertised as much. As a result, many supercenter constructions were halted and were retooled to be built as regular Kmart stores. As a result of the 2002 bankruptcy, 12 Super kmarts were closed and in 2003, Kmart closed 58.

Anyone remember Walmart having a big periscope in the corner of an aisle? You look into it and looked like you were looking into space? (I'm probably wrong with it being space but that's what I'm remembering). I can't find any of it online. I grew up with this and they removed it around 2007+ I can't pinpoint but it's been so long.

Mr. Sam Wallton should've met with founder of world-famous Banda El Recodo, Mr. Cruz Lizarraga, the father of Mexico's Sinaloan-band music. Mr. Lizarraga had a similar "rags-to-riches" type of situation to that of Mr. Walton, but in the regional mexican music industry, instead.
Even though the Sinaloan-band music genre already existed before Mr. Lizarraga got involved, he is considered the tather of the genre since he got rid of some and introduced new musical instruments that made the genre catchy and fun-sounding.
El Recdo de Cruz Lizarraga has the special title of "Mother of all Sinaloan-Bands" and is considered the "Harvard University of Sinaloan-Band".
Fun Fact: Just like Mr. Walton has a museum dedicated to him on what was his 5-10 store, Mr. Lizarraga's birthhouse at the Mexican State of Sinaloa was repurposed as a museum dedicated to Mr. Lizarraga too.

I was in highschool in the early 90s 1991-1995. Now in 2023 they are mostly supercenter. theres no more single stores if you found a state that has a walmart the old way were it was the size of a dollar store it'll be rare.

I remembered the 1st time in going to a Walmart. It was in June 1989 with my grandparents. I was in and out of the store because of my grandparents. I went to the same Walmart with my parents shortly after that first time. Where I was from there was a Walmart close towards my home about 1 mile away. That was in 1991. It was a little bit bigger and a nicer one. There is one that I still liked to go that is near me but, it is about 40 minutes away from my home. I don’t mind driving towards it. It was a smaller one and in 2012 a new one was built near the old one. The new one is a super Walmart. It is a bigger store. I don’t mind in going to it for my shopping needs.

AlbertWesker203 They did but it’s not all Walmart’s fault. Kmart didn’t take care of their stores they let them get outdated. Then they merged with sears another failing company. The sad thing is the CEO of Sears and Kmart won’t do anything about it.

Kmart and sears killed themselves! As Walmart adjusted with the change in times, kmart and sears were lost in the past and that concept nowadays doesn't work. You don't want to update stores or be competitive and treat consumers with lower prices and more selection you mine as well dig your grave as a retailer. I love Walmart and there stores are always up to date and usually have the things I need at the best prices so why shop elsewhere.

Some people don't live long after getting cancer my grandma died within three weeks of finding out she had it. I think a lot of people think they would have a year but a lot don't.

Didn't they have syrup pumps (cherry, chocolate, vanilla) that you could mix with your soda? I seem to be the only one remember them having that so far. I used to mix cherry and chocolate with either my Dr Pepper or Coca Cola. I never used the vanilla because I hated vanilla when I was a kid. But someone please tell me if I'm remembering right or not. 😭
