Duo: There is More Than One Way to Block It

  • In this video, we revisit the Duo blocking scheme. The Duo scheme is closely related to the Inside Zone, and they are often mistaken for one another, but many O-line coaches often refer to it as "Power without a puller.”
    The offensive line blocks the defensive front with more than one double-team block at the point of attack, allowing the running back to read the middle linebacker. The OL is trying to create as many Doubles as possible.
    This video shows two different but successful offensive lines (Notre Dame and Michigan) blocking Duo differently. Like everything else in football, there is more than one way to skin a cat.
    Disclaimer: No cats or other animals were harmed in making this video. Unless you want to count the hurt feelings of the Defensive Coordinators who fell victim to the Duo blocking scheme.
