If Miranda had had more punching power then the result of this tough fight maybe have been different. They never threw Barry in with big punchers apart from Juan Laporte and they NEVER put him in with one every again. Nelson would have murdered Barry.

Barry McGuigan did concede in an interview once that he didn't think he was good enough to beat Azumah Nelson. There's no shame in that. There were other fighters that, had things worked out differently, McGuigan was good enough to beat - Brian Mitchell and Jimmy McDonald. Granted McDonald did win v McGuigan on a technicality at the GMex centre in 1989, but he had a major advantage in that he was fighting continuously in the previous 3 years whereas Barry McGuigan had only made his comeback in 1988. I have no way to prove this but had McDonald challenged McGuigan in 1985 or 1986 he wasn't good enough to win. He got his face bloodied himself by Nelson in 1989. McDonald also lost to 1 of the finest boxers ever to come out of South Africa - Brian Mitchell.

McDonald stopped McGuigan on a cut.
Up until the stoppage McGuigan was schooling n bossing McDonald who said after the fight that McGuigan was the best he had been in with.
