Say 1-ah-lee 2-ah-lee 3-ah-lee 4-ah-lee 1 and leave out ah so you then get the swing beat from 1- -lee 2- -lee 3- -lee 4- -lee 1 and so on. You’re playing correct beats but wrote wrong rhythm.
It did need a swing marker, but it's not difficult to interpret unless you're a beginner to this sort of genre. Most swung songs use this type of notation, where two 8th notes are equivalent to the swing triplet pattern.
