To those of you who are like me and are using FM8, I made a little discovery. Don't modulate into the filter, modulate directly to the output. There is no internal waveshaper in FM8, but you can achieve a similar effect to this by changing the sine carriers into squares (This is optional. I kind of like it.) and putting on an overdrive with these settings: Drive: 90 Tone: 100 Bass: 28 (You can change this, too, but I personally feel that any less is too little, any more sounds a bit muddy.) Volume: 70 Other than that, follow the video, it's pretty on point. Thanks, Seamless! I've been trying to make this sound for a while now!
SeamlessR if you want to compare 2 instances of Sytrus you need to close only the channel settings window. Now when you click on the second Sytrus the first one will stay open :)
I'm trying to follow this but make the match in PhasePlant instead. I think it can do everything. I'm hitting a wall though. I set up my Phaseplant patch the same way as this video -- I have two sine patches both up one octave (as is the default in Sytrus and seen in this video -- 2.0000x). I routed the output of my secondary osc (modulator) to the phase of the first osc (carrier). But when I move my modulation amount knob (green in PhasePlant) it sounds nothing like the modulation that's happening at 2:21 in this video. Does anyone have any idea why? EDIT: I figured out SeamlessR is playing an E1 note and that sort of fixed it. But something still sounds wrong in the harmonic content. I have a Sytrus patch identical to what SeamlessR is making and it sounds the same so I can compare it to my PhasePlant patch attempting to emulate the same thing. Even if I match the harmonics pitch of the PhasePlant output to the Sytrus, I can't make the harmonic structure sound the same. It seems there is something different in how Sytrus does FM. If you have an oscilloscope open and turn up the modulation amount on Sytrus from the modulator to the carrier, the amplitude of the resultant wave increases. However, in PhasePlant the output amplitude of the wave is consistent, it doesn't change at all when the modulation is applied to the carrier. :| EDIT: nvm, I think in the default patch of Sytrus the output of osc 1 is turned up all the way on the right, but on this video it's off (still making sound somehow, idk). I made the grid look EXACTLY like the video and now it behaves similarly. Note the mod depth amount of Sytrus is roughly 84.8% of PhasePlant's mod depth so modulate accordingly.
I currently am using my school mac until I get my windows laptop back, so I don't have FL. So, I can't do shit on fl studio, obviously, which means, no sytrus. Tell me, seamless, is it possible to automate the harmonics?
C: also, while you're responding to my comments, is there a place I could send you a sytrus patch? Like to message a DL link to you or direct send or something.
I would like to thank you man! Without any of your tutorials I'll be still struggling with my songs but with your help I have managed to improve my songs greatly. So thank you! Check out my latest track if you have time :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE SEAMLESS!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUU!
Thanks so much for uploading all these videos seamless, you are awesome! ..your work is helping me understand how to make the sounds I want to create.
I like how you use harmor and sytrus a lot, because I like Image Line Plugins a little more
Sounds like the main synth in Cthulu Sleeps! Love it. You're a master of synthesis dude!

Yup.
Happy B-Day Seamless!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEAMLESS, The best :DD
Happy late birthday :D and thx for the great tutorial
Happy Birthday man. :D
hbd seamless. ur the shit bro
Happy birthday Seam :D!
love the bass! couldnt make it exact But thats probably good. So its not just #based on tuts#
Sir! I would like to wish you a very Joyous Birthday Indeed!
So nice Seamless. Thanks
Thanks
do a vocoding tutorial on layering recorded sounds(water, paper crunching) to a bass to add texture

Gracias, capo.
Thanks, man.
Instead of distorting it, you can make op 1 a square. Same thing, except a little louder and sharper.
Sure, but i think (I'm not sure) you got more control of what's going on if you distord it with waveshaper
Did you start using Sytrus' waveshaper because I told you about it? ;p
Thanks you for flp xD
so cool!

You can are my favorite teacher !
hey bro can u make drop from this song the bloody beetroots spank(dyro remix) bass lead :D sound
hey Seamless
Sounds like massive' s scream lp filter:)

It is not possible to automate individual harmonics in Sytrus.
Kool
you can do browse parameters, then move the harmonic and then automate it... thought don't do it! it will just sound shitty because it isn't clean.
Hey Seamless, can you make a tutorial on how to make NuDisco?
hey seamless, try doing kill the noise bass and synth from this track try both 00:56 01:25
