Never forget lieutenant commander Saman 'Sam' Gunan who gave his life on that cave to rescue those kids and Major Beirut Pakbara who contracted a blood infection during the rescue and died later, both frogman both heroes. May your souls find peace.
This is what I came here to say.
HEROES! RIP
They mention their memory at the end of the movie. ♡
Talk about spoiler alert...lol
@@michaelfair0485 it happened years ago , you can’t give a spoiler alert to real life
I'd recommend checking out THE RESCUE which is an incredible documentary about this story.
Amazing documentary. I totally second that recommendation. Available on Disney+ most places that have it, I think.
I cried watching it
Watch it already now I am really excited about the movie 🍿 I know Ron Howard will do an awesome job telling this story! ❤️
Absolutely riveting. Hearing the real people tell the story is just unbelievable
Totally agree!!
Just have to add that the coach who was with the boys is an extraordinary man. The way he kept them calm, led them through meditations and ways to keep the fear at bay...just remarkable.
Yes but very odd that he led them so far into a cave system. That was irresponsible.
@@BobGardiner no, it wasn't. It was a common place for locals to explore and monsoon season was forecast to be weeks away. They ended up so far back because once the flash flooding began, they were cut off and had to retreat to find high ground to survive. The coach saved their lives and kept the boys calm during a horrific ordeal.
@@BobGardiner no It was very common.
To think he blamed himself for his team’s situation 😞 it was NOT his fault, no one could’ve predicted how early the monsoon would arrive.
@@sparxstreak02 precisely.
As a cave diver what those men volunteered to do is absolute heroics. Not just the British, Australian, and European cave divers but also the Thai navy who went in without regard for their own safety. They likely knew they didn’t have the necessary cave diving equipment like the professionals brought along they still went regardless. It’s an incredible story and in the diving community it is always humbling and inspiring to see what other highly experienced technical divers are capable of. Make no mistake this rescue was nothing short of putting a man on the moon

@jay I’m a mom and your words hit hard… know this incident happened some years back , all the staff in my office , at the time this happened, prayed everyday for those boys. Your words said it all , the horrific accident was just short of a miracle saving those boys , to this day my eyes water when reading or hearing about how these brave men risked everything to save these boys…… loved your comment ,so well said. I have one son , couldn’t have more so this story incredible impact whether men or children involved and life’s are at stake.
PKing o I need your assistance
British are European
But I thought it was only American because they showed up on Ellen show
One of the most underrated heroic achievements in human history. What these brave men did to get those children out alive is nothing short of incredible. If any of those children died during the rescue, under Thai law the divers could* have been prosecuted for their murder (according to the documentary "The Rescue"). So many people would have refused to do it knowing that... But they were willing to put their lives and freedom on the line just to attempt the rescue.
The word "Hero" gets thrown around a lot these days. People call sports stars and actors their heros. These men.... They deserve a new word just for them. Hero doesn't quite cut it. Super hero more like it.
distorted documentary Helping Others in Thailand If you can't help will not break the law of murder I'm Thai, I just want to tell the truth.
@@aooo9 I probably misused the word "would". I probably should have used the word "could" (have edited original comment). But it definitely was a possibility because they were sedating the children and holding them underwater. If anything had happened, perhaps they may have been given a pardon given the circumstances... But under the word of the law, they were performing a medical procedure prior to the rescue attempt and as a result 'could' have been liable for anything that went wrong.
The Thai government gave the medical assistants and Dr. Harris immunity from criminal prosecution in case something went wrong
@@FoathTV I understand your meaning if in real situation An anesthetic injection was given to the child and he died. Of course, the injecting person is responsible. because of death in Thailand There must be a formula for the cause of death. If it is confirmed that the cause of death is from the drug injected to the child Of course, the injecting person is responsible. But when the trial The court will primarily look at the intent. and will certainly not be prosecuted
"Underrated"? I really don't think you're using the word properly here bud. What.. is international news coverage, books, a documentary and now a Hollywood flick not good enough?
I do like what you said though. Hero is indeed a word thrown around far too loosely
This movie restored my faith in humanity. When we come together, we can do amazing things. Much respect to all of those involved in this rescue.
I will always remember this. To this day I feel such gratitude to those divers. Those miraculous men. It's one thing to spring into action in the heat of the moment - but to prepare over days, knowing the odds....those are just very different and special people. As a side note - I think one of those rescuers ended up needing to be rescued himself up in Tennessee a bit later.
Just looked it up - Josh Bratchley. dude is nutso. Brand new cave described as 'a terrible little grode hole', crawling around for hours until his guideline snaps, then decides to just find an air pocket and chill. Literally one of the best cave rescue divers in the world has to go get him (expecting him dead) surfaces together an hour later, declines medical attention, and goes for pizza.
After living in Thailand, I was so impressed by the sensitivity Ron Howard took in portraying the Thai people and their culture. They are beautiful people and I am overwhelmed at the production of this film. I look forward to returning to Thailand one day soon.
very safe country
You can return to Thailand for more than one day!
Just kidding! You're more than welcome here!
I was in Thailand for almost 5 months last year … and hopefully if everything works out right I’ll be there in a few weeks, on September 3, again 😊
Beautiful country, wonderful people, amazing food! ❤ 🇹🇭
Yeah I was thinking about visiting some 3rd world sh hole country myself.
The passing of Duangpetch "Dom" Promthep brought me here. RIP, little captain!
Just imagine - 5 hour dive each time, for each kid, each time carrying a lifeless body strapped, and not just navigating underwater throught tight cracks, sharp cave and getting bruised up and cut, you have to worry if the kid is breathing and checking that he doesnt wake up, and give them booster shots ever 30 minutes. Like this to me is just insane, and I cant think of anything even close to what TF have I just watched
I watched "The Rescue" last year and it was tense. I look forward to this movie in hope it delivers the level of risk from the rescuers. They are the true heroes!
Given that Viggo Mortenson spoke about filming this and how if he hadn't had advice on set from one of the actual divers involved in the rescue he would have died as his tank cut out underwater when trying to get through one of the narrow parts, it just adds so much and shows the level of risk. I really want to watch it now
@@oliviadaly4795 Diving is extremely dangerous especially for one that get a crash course, not to mention that on a film set anything could go wrong. Ed Harris almost drowned filming The Abyss, in the DVD feature he said he literally cried on his way home thinking how close he came to death.
From watching all the news coverage as it happened... To watching "The Rescue"... Those divers are true heroes doing something that was seen as impossible. I cannot wait to watch this.
Ikr! I was frantically refreshing the news live page as kids came out of the cave one by one. The reality was so intense, that I am a bit not sure if I want to re-live that in the movie version. Idk.

What South Korea government did is despicaple. All the kids on Sewol cold be saved.
Definitely a must-watch. I still remember checking the news about this in 2018 when people are hoping that the boys will make it.

@@alexanderk6575 two has died. One on the scene. One was a bit later.
I was happy to see that the movie was well made and showed a great deal of sensitivity to the material, with more from Thai side than expected.
The documentary based on it called "The Resue" was insane and thrilling. Still can't believe it was all real.
I watched the documentary that this movie is based on a while back and it absolutely blew my mind! The guys that performed the actual rescue, not the hundreds of professionals supporting the overall effort, were bunch of (mostly) middle aged men that did cave diving as a hobby! They were not some group of specially trained sea rescue operators; just regular people!!!!
Truly heroic what they did!
I seriously am hoping that this is a return to form for director Ron Howard. Maybe this will be his comeback hit, here's hoping. Regardless, Viggo and Colin look like they are going to kill it in their roles.
i hope the viggo character is a real persom and not put in there for name recognition lol
He is a real person

MGM were putting it forward for Oscar contention as the film received the highest test screening results for any film they had ever tested. Amazon have now bought it and are putting it out earlier than expected.
I didn’t even recognise Farrell at first.

After watching this movie I had to sit alone for a bit and just contemplate what I saw. There are good people in this world. People who risk their lives for others, the real heros. Salute to those involved in this rescue. Over 5000 people showed up and proved that their are angels in this world.
The adrenaline rush it gives to save someone's life.
A five star film. I caution you if you have anxiety issues, as it will trigger you. I literally applauded at the end, and was in tears. Truly a touching movie, and I believe it should be the movie of the year. Those who didn’t survive helping rescue, may they truly rest in peace.
what a film ! I left fascinated and in awe of the bravery of these men. True story makes it all the more epic heroism to the highest degree . I read the only thing that was different from the film, the divers said it was pitch black in the cave. Obviously the film needed light to demonstrate rhe scenes for the audience . That’s insane. these men are 1 of 1
Such a good movie! Watched 3 times already in 3 days. Not only is it very accurate factually but a cinematic masterpiece, every scene in the movie has an important message or meaning and I enjoyed all 2 hours and 27 minutes of it
Agree. .I had major anxiety watching this ..it took me two days to complete but so worth it. I cannot say enough about this team of divers...

You all can’t finish a movie because of anxiety? Do you know how fucking weird and messed up that is? People today are so pathetic, we’re never going to be able to produce men like this anymore if we keep producing overly sensitive mentally ill weirdos like we do now.
I just saw this film at a screening. One of the best films I ever saw!!!
Talk it up
I have watched this three times now and can't emphasize how amazed I was when this event unfolded fours years ago and the deep respect I have for all the people involved. Ron Howard has done a excellent job transferring it to film and I was so impressed by Viggo's authentic English accent, which was better than Colin's! An inspiring piece of history about all aspects of collaborative humanity, which we'll probably never witness again.
It will happen against the next time a large group of people are in trouble
I was riveted to this story too when it first happened. The whole world was. And I remember it took the rescuers some time to plan and prepare for the rescue because it was so complicated and had never been done before. Also, nobody was sure if the kids were even alive. But yeah, after they emerged with only one casualty (bless his soul), the whole world celebrated and rejoiced. It also reminded me of the rescue of the Chilean miners who were trapped a mile or deeper beneath the earth and how they were pulled out of a shaft. That was amazing too! And there were no casualties in that event. Just goes to show the amazing humanitarian feats we humans are capable of if we work together towards a common good.

Many time I found myself in tears ,or holding my breath ,moving out of the way of obstacles yet I'm sitting on my couch. God bless and watch over the two navy seals who lost their lives and all the men who brought everyone home.
I cry a lot when I watched the news. I heard their 13 boy’s mothers voice,
Speaking from purely as a diver, I can say beyond the shadow of a doubt, rescuing these boys is no different than trying to rescue someone from Mt. Everest.
rescuing someone from Everest is honestly a lot easier in comparison
The documentary made me weep. The brilliance and decency of these men simply cannot be overstated.

No the actual heroes were Thai Prime Minister and the whole R…team !
To learn more of the rescue, I recommend the three books; 'Aquanaut' by Rick Stanton, 'Thirteen Lessons that saved Thirteen Lives' by John Volanthen, and 'The Cave' by Liam Cochrane. They go into greater detail of the politics and logistics, and the valuable role of the US military who smoothed the communication between the Thai Authorities and Military, and the 'old guys' with the international team, initially unwanted, as well as providing more than 40 personnel from Okinawa and Thailand, and the specialist equipment to facilitate their movement in the outer chambers.
As a cave diver, with the proper equipment, training and guidance, I've been in some of the underwater caves in Thailand, even had to drag a panicked diver out on one occasion, but cannot envisage taking care of unconscious children in strong currents. I salute the Thai SEALs who went in without such gear, no training and no experience of such situations.
It's quite amazing what people can do.
I saw on an interview. One of the kids thought he would see his mom waiting in front of the cave, ready to spank him because he had been away for many days.

Why people in that town are so afraid to talk about the incident ? They acted like they’re deaf if people ask them about the story of boys in the cave they would silently shake their head and turn or walk away.

Nothing short of a herculean effort! I am absolutely and thoroughly amazed at the depth and breadth of human ingenuity and bravery involved in this rescue. Truly heroic, in every sense of the word. Those divers are most definitely made from a different cut of cloth than the rest of us mere mortals.
As a mother, I would have too difficult a time watching this if I did not know the ending. The parents of these children must have gone through hell.
I am not even a mother and the real rescue efforts made me frantically refresh the live news page back in 2018! I cannot even pretend to imagine what other parents were going through, let alone the parents of those 13 lives.

Just found this movie last night, and I'm now watching it again for the 3rd time... salute to those who perish. Your memories will not be forgotten.
I watched the documentary again after reading that a movie about the rescue is coming.
One thing strike me after rewatch : how skillful the British cave divers & experienced cave divers are. The Thai Navy seal chief kept repeating it was a struggle for them cos it was 1st time they did cave diving. The British cave divers only 5 hours to go & come back. Thai Navy seals took 8 hours or longer.
It took 15 hours for them to return on the day Saman Kunan died. Then right after that his colleagues went in to retrieve his body.
The way the divers talked about in various interviews were like : it's another day of cave diving with added risk, part of the job.
Cave diving is one of the most advanced forms of Scuba there is. It takes an extremely specialized skillset and unique types of equipment. No matter how good a diver is without that specialized training and equipment they won't be up to diving in a cave environment.
Yeah. Now I understand why John Volanthan praised the bravery of the Thai Navy Seals in his interviews.
One of the core British divers , James Mallinson said he was confident of getting himself in and out of the cave safely but taking a child with him was a daunting task.
Ivan Karadzic, a Denmark guy who was one of the support divers, said for cave divers that Thai cave is not hard to dive in cos there are air pockets in sections. Like in Chamber 4,5,6,7,8,9. If a cave divers loses the grip on the guide rope, they can surface in the air pocket and then dive in to find the line. Ivan is a diving instructor in Thailand, he was stationed in Chamber 4.
BUT with a child, a child who can't dive(some reports later said the boys can swim but never did any scuba diving before) , that is immense responsibility. The difficulty and pressure increased many times more
Apparently the support divers in Chambers 4 to 8 were to step up as replacement if anything were to happen to the 4 core British divers along the way out. So this heavy responsibility played in their mind.
@@angieng8633 the support divers in chamber 5 to 9 (Euro, Australian and Brits) really were just support. I believe they were only vaguely hinted to be backup, up until the last day, which makes the fact even more dangerous and bizarre lmao.
Because Jim warny took the coach out the last day, he was told to do that less than 24h before
Brits are kind of the pionners in cave diving, they know what they re doing. Thai Seals were worthless, no offence. Cave diving is a whole another game, even if you have thousands open water dives, if you are not certified and trained for caves, it's like playing russian roulette entering one. You can see that in the movie...
Funny how there is a movie on amazon and a series on netflix and I am gonna watch both

basically everyone who lives in adelaide knows richard (worlds biggest country town lmao) so it’s pretty crazy to see him being played by a big actor like joel
And I watched him last Sunday on TV racing his Mini at The Bend!
