    Roy keane was right about Irelands preparation for the world cup. It was a shambles. Mick Mccarthy accusing keane of feigning injury was probably done so that mick could get rid of what he saw as a troublesome character in the squad knowing full well the other Ireland players were desperate to play in a major tournament and wouldn't back keane. Mick knew keane would self destruct when accused of disloyalty to the cause and planned the attack imo.

      What ?? Mark Kinsella was desperate to take his spot and Mick wanted to do him a favour ??
      Absolute crap you’re talking,Keane was doing what the he should’ve been doing as SAF would do,he was right,but blame the FAI,at the same time if that paper didn’t get released early they’d have gone to the best facilities with pitches like carpets ! Keane was a trainer he wouldn’t care where he was and expected the best no matter what the downtime,why not ? It should’ve been full on and he was right,he’d seen enough of accepting mediocre and when you see how that World Cup panned out we’d be done with the charlton years and gone further than they ever did and put it to bed,then in my opinion it would’ve launched more players to want to be an Ireland footballer !!!

    Roy was a physically & technically average footballer. No real athleticism or size. He became a world-class midfielder purely with focus and dedication to mastery of the 'basics'. It's no wonder he gets so frustrated with the 2 bit mentalities of many footballers - the game hasn't changed though, Roy has always been different.

      A wouldn't agree with you on the athleticism part bud he was a box to box midfielder for about 2/3 of his career,and not all midfield players have the engine for that at elite level,and a bad injury was probably the main reason his midfield role changed as soon as it did in his career

    • @liamdevine8063
      @liamdevine8063 2 роки тому

      @@robertmontague2225 He was a box to box midfielder but he was 5'9' and not especially fast or strong. But you don't have to be hugely athletic to be a box to box player, although though it does help of course. Keane excelled by timing his runs and most importantly reading a game probably better than any midfielder of his generation.
      His role didn't change cause the cruciate injury. He made a conscious choice to adapt following advice of Bryan Robson who told him on arrival at United that top players need to be involved with building the game not just getting in the box.

    I cant believe there are Irish people backing Mick "the p*rick" and the Irish FA here. Keane was passionate about the efforts and standards being reached and maintained wherever he worked. We must all surely realise that at the level Keane was playing at that this is a minimum requirement, or perhaps we dont? Further, Keane is definitely the one player least likely to fake an injury and the accusation of that in front of his team mates was designed to make Keane's position untenable and one that he wasn't able to contain himself over. It was an act of extreme disloyalty by McCarthy to the whole Irish nation as well as the football team that was designed to provoke Keane and make it impossible for him to continue playing in that "arrangement". Maybe I don't understand this properly because I am English but I never doubted Keane in this. He is the best player ROI have ever had (that I am aware of) so whatever people say about this mess, its a crime that the senior management were not able to utilise his contribution for the team and the country. He drove Man U for many years to achieve many things so please don't argue that he wasn't an incredible talent because you will simply be very wrong if you do. This whole affair was a farce and appeared to be mostly about McCarthy's ego. As for the Irish FA, I don't know or care much about them so it would be wrong for me to offer a comment other than to say they must have got something wrong here? They eventually fired McCarthy of course, not long afterwards. And he "left" again after a short spell in more recent times and was sacked after a handful of games in his next project. Nice work if you can get it, I say. Sorry Mick, its really not personal , just the way I see it.

      @@hamonryechinaski180 Keane not a team player, really? Pretty sure you'd have wanted to be on his side and not the other when he was on the pitch. Keane's fault, if it is to be classed as one, is wanting and demanding perfection - he drove Man Utd on in games with this attitude when playing for Man Utd.

      @Colin Grigson Why Colin?
      I've loved football my whole life. I admire the sport although I personally wasn't very good at it.
      I was a boxer. I loved it. I was quite good. 23 fights. Never beaten. (amateur / pre-pro) Then it got dirty. I was "asked" to fall. I said no, then quit. I told them all to fuck off. I could have made a ton of money if I had only done what I was "asked"
      Do I regret it? Not a fucking thing. I could have beat anyone they'd put in front of me. There is one thing I regret. I would have loved to have faced Mayweather. I would have enjoyed beating seven shades of shit out of that illiterate, wife-beating piece of shit.
