The Fastest Sunfire in the World?!?! -- (ULTIMATE SLEEPER!)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- This is the fastest Pontiac Sunfire in Canada, and maybe the world for the 2.2L (LN2 motor) in stock trim.
Daily driven, looks stock, makes a great sleeper!
This car features a built bottom end, a Borg S362 62mm turbocharger making 40psi of boost. And to top it off this car has a 4 speed auto, so a 35 shot of Nitrous was added to get off the line.
You can find this car racing in the CSCS drag racing series, Street Modified 12.0 index class.
If you see it on the street, leave it alone.. lol

Did not expect it to be an automatic, this is amazing.
97 Sunfire base coupe owner. Still my daily driver. Great video. Great content. Cheers from Hamilton Ontario canada
I expected a Ecotec swap. That little 2200 is kicking, wow.
I love the Sunfire, just got one with only 90k miles on it and honestly looks like it's in mint condition. Great car man fr
I'm studying this video for my sunfire sleeper project 😍😍
How’s it going so far?
Feedback?
One of the easiest cars to work on and get into by far. I replaced a cylinder head with a 10 dollar socket set after spark plug thread got stuck in it . Sick build
Was not expecting a 2.2 single cam pushrod engine 😳 and a 4t40e 🤯
Neither the lambo and Corvette he beat😂😂😂
I know the 2.2 non ecotech is pretty good but I thought they had the 3 speed trans
This makes love my sunfire even more tho
Same
Real
Ah. Fellow sunfire owners.
They’re great cars. Just bought an ‘03 coupe at 97k original; only one owner. Clean on the inside & runs like a champ so far. Hate that Pontiac is dead. Truly the saddest discontinued brand to exist.
No complaints from me either
The wolf in sheep's clothing😂😂..
Stopped laughing when I seen that LN2 under the hood.
this man is a hero for cav and fire guys everywhere
He’s still racing that car to this day!
I'm getting a 2001 Cavalier with this 2.2l 2200. Cant wait to build it
id iike to chat with this guy because this is awsome!! i want to build mine!!!!
Tell that dude to come help build mine lol
Way to represent ecotec engines! GM should take note of how strong the auto can handle ! Great vid
It's not a eco tec lol it's a 2.2ln2
The ln2 motor has a strong headgasket and auto trans. U can port and polish the head and it won't bust easily. The same exact motor is in the s10
Gm doesn't care they have moved on to other things
This is great. Wonderful build!
God I love sleepers
those 2.2 were known to make upwards of 1000 hp with bolt ons
No they aren’t
Funny watching front wheel cars drag. They swerve back and forth from the torque steer.
Fastest Sunfire? Oh, I'd LOVE to meet up sometime and dispute that statement! ;-)
We can make that happen :)
Where are you from (area)

I thought it was crazy that it had the single cam slob of a motor and then the stock 4 speed tranny blew my mind lol
I was walking this morning and saw a clean sun fire and thought let me UA-cam if there is such thing as a turbo sun fire and found this thing lol
If I see it on the street I’ll leave it alone lol #AppreciateTheTip
Those 2200's need a port and polish. Doing that wakes those motors up big time.
I have had several Sunfires. I'm still buildin' one to this da. They had potential back in the day but very little followin'. Nopi built a 2003 sunfire that was in the background of 2 fast 2 furious. They also built a 2003 sunfire & 2004 cavalier that was held some drag racin' records.
Hey quick question: how reliable are these cars? I saw one for 1500$ it has 300 000 miles should I get it?
@@royjaber571 Cavs and sunfires are an acquired taste. I love em.
i just bought this car.....this is wild
Now this guy knows wtf he is doing and talking about, nobody could not do this at all they would just be angry at the fact they couldn’t do it and talk shit, nobody cant tell this guy shit.
I believe as I remember there's a 2.6l stroked quad 4 with turbo and nos was in an old hot rod magazine from the 90s. I remember it went 10s and made I believe a claimed 600hp at 24psi with getrag 5 speed. Ln2 is just the2.2 pushrod rod motor nothing impressive as far a those motors like the build tho
I got a 2001 sunfire i want to do something like this. 2.2L
Help me out 😋 i dont know much and ive owned it 20 years
Had the pleasure of having a pit stall last season beside him, thing is NASTY, the doors dont work either so i assume EVERYTHING is gutted
I'd like to know who was gonna build the transmission for him. I need that done with mine
Don't underestimate Jbodies. They are light and the engines can be modded to hell
Buen trabajo en ese JBody LN2
Hahahaha. Good shit. 40psi running in the 11’s. That’s great
Eventually when my mint 03 hits 150k I think I might do this lol
I always assumed it had a Quad4. Those 2.2s put up with a lot of abuse though.
I have a stock 2000 sunfire just bought it off my friend for $1200 43k miles I’m making it my project car about to put a body mod on it and debating on replacing the engine I have a v6 vortec 4.3L I’m going to take it to a mechanic and see if there’s enough room to drop it in there Bc it’s in my truck rn and there’s a lot of extra room under the hood
The cameraman, answering every question that he asked. 😂
thats sexy af
When’s the next meet in Guelph? Just subscribed would love to come out check out the rides.
I've been a Sunfire owner for many many years and had a few different year models. But the one in this video is one of the ugliest models sheesh. If I was going to make one fast it would be the newest model one I believe was 03-05. That's my first choice. My 2nd choice is the 98 GT model. Funny as the 98 GT model was kinda my 1st/2nd car for about 10 years. Was a great vehicle. My current vehicle is 2004 Sunfire.
I'm building a 97 sunfire converted to rear wheel drive with a 2jz
Can we talk about this? You've peaked my interests!!!!!!
What year is this Sunfire. Mine is 1997
Carro sunfre verdes
What kind of injectors???
Yeah you need to boost a 2.2 ohv otherwise it's a total dog
Something bothers me a little bit. He says its on stock ecm and tuned with hptuners then says its got a 5 bar map sensor. On my sunfire, there are no options in hptuners for getting the ecm to accept/change the map sensor. Aka he has a 5 bar connected in place of the stock map sensor to which the stock ecm cant read boost pressure anways. Since the scaling in hptuners cant be changed either, the resolution in the vacuum range is going to be terrible. Further more, any fuel table that the engine is fueling from besides the idle fuel table is controlled by % throttle vs rpm.
TL:DR-
the stock ecm cant read boost pressures nor does it use the map sensor anywhere off idle anyways. So i wonder how he is using the 5 bar.
Certain years you can reflash the stock tune for a speed density (2BAR tune). Maybe 00-02. Then run any MAP sensor you want. Scaling isnt great and you won't be able to run any fuel trims. But its all that is possible to run higher boost and be able to tune it
Holy fucking shit do you guys see that monster of a turbo??!!!!!?!??!??!!?!??! That shit bigger than the car itself lmfaooooooo
Is that a turbocharger or supercharger
Turbo
i am beating your record
Good on did he say V8 sunfire? How!?
That's a lot of work in a car to barely go 11s in the 1/4 mi.
His build is super low budget and simple actually
