A little late but if anyone show interest in this post I'll update them on the build I'm doing with my 2005 2.2 auto Cav when I'm done. The short of it is a rebuild of the trans with upgraded parts and a LSD kit, rebuild of the engine with forged rods and pretty much all new components in the head (minus the cams, have blower cams ordered but have no idea when they'll come in so the stock will have to do right now.), and with the spoiler out of the way, a SS Cobalt manifold and a rebuilt M62.
Just read some of your other comments on this video, maybe I'll need to ask you for some help. Also I just put the cobalt longtube headers on mine, it's possible, but not easy.
I've got the 05 Cavalier LS 4D Sedan 2.2L ecotech 3speed transmission. I wanna throw a S/C on that bitch. You've got any way I can get in contact with you?
@@imjustthatguy2153 the engine has overheating issues. Most of them die because of blown headgaskets in the summer. The channels in the block are insufficient.
I miss my 98 Cavalier RS 2.2l 5 speed. I had a blast in that car. 3rd gear was a beast. I always wanted to put a Z24 vvt head on it. Everyone thought it was souped up. Because it felt a lot faster than it should have been. And it had the perfect exhaust leak right from the muffler. It literally sounded like an expensive aftermarket exhaust system. People always complimented me on how good it sound and asked me what exhaust I had on it. " a muffler with a hole and exhaust tip". But that was my third favorite car i owned
My first new car was a 2001 Chevy Cavalier. That’s the time The Fast and the Furious movie came out. And boy! Did that movie changed my life and my car. Good times I tell you. 😂
My 96 Sunfire has the 2.4l quad dual cam, Its a fun little car. The exhaust pipe broke on me going over a hill top bridge and now it sounds like a beefed out v6. Can even hear the cam lope in it when it gets warmed up lol
I had a all motor 01 z24 5 speed LD9 I built years ago, 2500lbs and ran 14.9s, had a gear set and differential from a HHR in it so went from the factory 3:94 final drive to a 4:17. Best mod I ever did to that car was that final drive. Miss that car. Butt hurt machine she was lol honda guys hate losing to a cavalier, same with subi guys lol any compact car guy for that matter.
Had a 98 with the LD9. Bought it with a bad engine (I should have taken that as a sign). I swapped an engine with 50k on it, putting in a new water pump before install. It was a fun car. That said, every 40k miles two of the coil packs and the ignition modulator would burn out. And the engine would remind me when oil changes were needed, right around 3k miles, by momentarily sounding like the cams were spinning with no lubrication whatsoever upon cold starting in the morning. I’ve seen these engines tuned. They have lots of potential. But reliability for a daily driver wasn’t its strong suit.
I’ll never forget my 04 cavy …modified body with aero kit ..sport seats ..eibach shocks …AEM intake ..front and rear aluminum strut braces …I had bought a used Supercharger from a cobalt ss partout but never got to install as I rolled it on a patch of black ice in the winter of 2017
You gotta provide more information on tuning it, that’s the only obstacle with these cars and not a lot of people know how or are willing to tune it. Like he said Hptuners gives you access to all the maps but you gotta know what your doing.
Ld9 cars are easy. You can start with the GM supercharger tune and it's basically fine for up to about 10psi, but the 310cc injectors are maxed around that point
I had a 2000 z24 with the bottom end re worked for strength. Bearings, studs, cams. Also had 900 in the head done by mountainland machine shop here in roanoke va, it was a auto but it hooked very well, only spun maybe ten feet off the foot break and a cheap 125 zex wet shot kit off my friends mustang after it grenaded. I only sprayed it after it got to third gear because top end the hondas would pull on me hard but I loved that car so much!! I hurt alot b16, b18, b 20 and h22 fanboys. Although my friend Eric had a h22 eg hatch that seemed to always have my number, I never beat that car, top end it was to much and would come around me. I miss the ole silver bullet. Though I would have never got into street racing without owning that car, and without that car I wouldnt have ended up with my 72 monte carlo
Back in the day I used to have a 92 Beretta GTZ with some work done ( poly dog bone, MSD neon coilpack conversion, 3" catless exhaust, cai, w41 prom with cooler t stat setting. It was quick for an NA fwd car if you could get the power down.
Recently got a 2005 Chevy Cavalier Base as a my first car i love it The torque is incredible on it just wish it had more power (It has the 2.2 L61 not the LD9). Maybe i might consider a Tune up and a couple of modifactions on it.
Exactly what I have, I'm about to do a major rebuild on it and SC it. I'll answer any questions I can. If you want to do any major mods I wouldn't wait much longer. While the stock components are still readily available the performance ones are getting harder and harder to find. Your best shot is ZZP and ebay, Cavalier World's website is up but they shut down months ago.
@@m.d.598 The Engine still has quite a bit of life in it It's at just over 100,000 miles on it What would be the best if i want to draw more Horsepower. Was thinking about getting a Turbo for it
@@thegreatcanadianlumberjack5307 I'll be doing this in a few posts since it's long and the app likes to close replys sometimes. This will largely be considering you have an auto on the tuning side. Stock to stock the autos usually a bit stronger than the manual trans but they put a large amount of torque limiting and hesitation in it stock so at the bare minimum I would recommend a tune to change those, increase line pressure, and change shift points and it'll feel a lot sportier.
After that you have the standard NA mods. A better flowing intake manifold and filter system, a short header and no larger than a 2.5" catback (the exhaust upgrades are not strictly necessary until 300-350WHP but do help and make it sound better), and no larger than #60 injectors (you will not nearly max these out at NA but you will still gain a little and are necessary if you go forced later).
Then you can either go turbo or supercharger. The base of either will cost about the same but it tends to be a good amount harder to turbo than to SC and they will both put out a similar amount of power with a similar amount of effort (after the initial install) until about 300-350WHP, but the SC will give a better low end torque (which is what this car needs if you're not doing track racing) unless you start looking at the expensive turbos. If you're looking for the most power and cost/time isn't an issue turbo is the way to go but 300ish is about as far as you want to go with stock internals and at that point the super is pretty much an in frame bolt on. ZZP sells great kits but you'll have to get it turned somewhere else. Also almost all the turbo/sc options are on the assumption that it's going on a Cobalt which has a electronic throttle so you will have to get an adapter plate for you're throttle body.
The issue with that is the 2003 came with the ecotec motor and the record is for the LD9. The ecotec's handle boost better and don't need these crazy Frankenstein builds using parts from the 80's
