Ronald's application from the Craig's List ad reminded me of a Kurt Vonnegut story where Stoney Stevenson, a kid from Indiana, enters a cereal box contest, and gets blasted out, into the chronosynclastic infindibulum.
The reason this show is amazing is that they wanted to have a hero character. Not someone to be the butt of some inside jokes that the cast and viewers were in on. No. They wanted to put him in situations that he could look good in if he made the right choices. And he did, every single time. Great job Ronald. You deserve all the good things that come your way.
I think Ronald is terrific, but he most likely would do awful on "survivor." He is a relatively big guy. He needs too many calories to survive. "Survivor" is a game that favors small people.
What would they have done if afterwords he didn't sign paperwork saying it was on to release the footage 🤔 it would have been such a waste of time for everyone 🙄
The terrifying mind-bending aspect of something like this is for those of us that have felt like we're living the Truman show our whole life anyway. This is an added layer to disentangle from that. So kind of James to help him through the reintegration process
I doubt it. Not that Ronald isn't a good-looking guy. It's just that when you compare him to past Bachelors, he is not to the high standards they set for pretty people. Being 6'6 tall is the best thing he's going going on for him in reality for that show.
When they did the reveal, he needed to call a lawyer asap because he was in the catbird seat and could have negotiated a much, much, much better deal for himself.
Just watched last night, binged the whole thing. Somehow I missed the message about how he didnt know. I thought Ronald was another actor playing along. I had no idea. Still having a hard time believing he didnt know. I was just as surprised as him when the judge told him.
I think the show is great, but what they did to him is terribly questionable, especially now that we know he was given stuff to sign on the day of the reveal when his mind was all over the show and certainly not the full extent of the psychological impact
There were 3 seasons of a show called The Joe Schmo Show. They got crazier each season but the concept was similar: fake reality show with actors except 1 or 2 contestants who think it's all real. They're great
If you believe he truly didn’t know exactly what was going on, then he wasn’t acting, he was just being himself. I have wondered if he truly didn’t know however. They said his girlfriend helped by telling him his phone would be taken away. Do we believe that she wouldn’t tell him the true nature of the show beforehand? Hard to say. Either way, it’s an entertaining show to watch.
@@lifeisgood6074 I agree, it was a very funny show, I watched the whole thing knowing it was staged. The comedy style reminded me of The Office. But it's cheaper, easier to produce, and more entertaining if EVERYONE was part of the script, and everyone was acting. How do we know Ronald has a girlfriend? That could be part of the script. Good show, but I'm not buying Ronald wasn't just acting like everyone else.
How did he not realize it’s unlikely someone could end up on jury duty by answering a Craig’s list to be in a documentary and not from an official jury summons? Jury notices and selections are random for a reason.
Good point. I was thinking the same thing. He seems pretty switched on. All I could think of is that the producers advised they received the cooperation of the courts, etc, etc and therefore they deviate selection from the norm. They still went through the normal jury vetting process, etc.
Yeah, you get an official Jury Duty summons in the mail which usually lists a date ~3 months in the future. Then on the night before you call the courthouse and there's a recording saying Yes/No to show up the next day.
The thing is, most members of the general public haven't served on a jury before (and indeed, that was one of the criteria for the Craigslist ad).
