The game was made mostly for chinese people who grew up with extensive knowledge about journey to the west. But to sum it up, if anyone is bothered to read this. Sun Wukong is a mythical creature born from the rock left by one of the creators of human kind (mythology). Gets his power by training with a master (puti- daoism) and wants a place in the heavens as a god. But the heavens disrespects him and gives him a bad position (horse keeper) so then he defies the heavens and crossed his name out on death (he can legit never die unless he chooses to). Then he fights the entire heaven (yes the entire celestial army + jade emperor) and basically wins until buddha had to come and pretty much banish him and cage him under a mountain (5 finger mountain). He is appraoched 500 years later by tang seng (buddhism monk), given the so called "crown" that you see and goes on "the journey to the west" where him and 3 other yaoguai turned good had to protect their shifu from other yaoguai (81 challenges) to receive the buddhas teachings from the west. In the balck myth game, the game takes place after the original story where wukong has successfully completed the journey and was named fighting buddha. That same crown I talked about earlier enabled tang seng to recite a buddhist verse which caused wukong to be obedient and lose his powers. He thought theyd removed it but in which they havent and the same spell still works on him. In order to dismiss the control of the buddhas, he basically chose to die hence why erlang killed him but only pretended to fight him. The main character of black myth is a young monkey who takes on the challenge of trying to find all of wukong's 6 missing things and basically become him. Thats why in the cutscene erlang says that he cannot kill the monkey, only wukong and kill himself. By killing himself, he is able to avoid the so called spell by spliting himself into 6 pieces. With the final one (his will) in erlang's 3rd eye if you play the game thats what happens when u win against erlang. Anywho, the game makes you collect all 6 of his pieces to "ressurect him" but the bad ending ends when he gets the crown put on him, meaning he never escaped. But the "good" ending, the main character gets his memories back which just so happens to be wukongs memories, without the crown. Meaning that you've successfully brought the real wukong back and that he does not need to go back into reincarnation.
@@ljcuoxotco youre a monkey who is essentially a reincarnation of wukong but you are not wukong yet as you havent gathered his 6 parts which were scattered in the word. Hence why you fight the bosses
Nice, cool to note the Monkey king also went to the underworld and erased his name from the book of destiny, so yea hes immortal a couple times over. 😅
He was also thrown into hellfire, but since he was immortal, he just absorbed it and became immortal again and then also got the name, monkey with the golden fire eyes
@howsyourday4268 That allegory doesn't even exist in Japanese 💀 there is NO 'starting from the bottom of the barrel' saying in Japanese. Luffy's entrance was 100% a visual reference to Wukong's famous introduction of bursting out from the rock, same pose and all.
OnG as big of a DBZ fan as I am... (I don't like Goku tho 😂 never was a fan of any of the main good guys in anything from anime to comics)... Wukong would solo the entire anime universe with ease lol.
It's wild how I knew about Wukong a while into knowing about Goku, and liked them both, but never put it together til recently that they are basically the same character. Or at least Goku is inspired by Wukong. Both of them can be shown as playful and mischievous, even simple and silly.. but they also have their don't F with me sides. Both can basically turn into big monkeys, and they both just get stronger the more they fight. Goku is basically presented as the strongest being in the universe next to what would be the highest of high creators. Funny enough Goku also has a pig companion, and another companion who can't get enough of the ladies.

I'm playing Black Myth: Wukong now and I stumbled in this video. After watching, I realized that the setting of the story in the game is after the Journey To The West 😳
1:40 actually, Sun Wukong IS the main character of Journey to The West, he's the center point of almost every chapter, and actively progress the story most of the time, his master is mostly the "damsel in distress" role.

by legends Siddhartha Gautama ascended to enlightment in india, so yes, it has to be the sub continent a trip to europe for buddhism is off the table obviously
No. Not really. The story of immortal monkey isn’t unique to China. It’s only know as monkey king and name Sun Wukong in China. In my native land, we have a different one about the immortal monkey. Journey to the West is not about China going to the West of China but went past China and travel to the West of China.
I'm an Anime nerd and I'm happy you stopped with the references, because I didn't come here for anime references but the story behind the Monkey King himself. Thanks!
In fact, the novel "Journey to the West" is far more than an adventure story. It is actually a philosophical storybook that combines three major religions and summarizes and satirizes them in the form of a large number of fables. It explores the ways to explain the world. Angle, way of being and living. The classical philosophical concepts in the book can bring people valuable knowledge and reflection, which is also an important reason why it stands out and becomes one of China's four great classics. 6:36
I saw this comment and had to respond. I'm noticing Monkey King ate the fruit of immortality, or in Christianity we call the fruit of eternal life. Adam and Eve ate of the fruit of knowledge of good and evil but not the fruit of eternal life. Monkey becomes an absolute nuisance to the heavens and the monk is always trying to make Monkey understand he is doing wrong, but Monkey seems to have no knowledge of good and evil. It's almost a play on the consequences of had Adam and Eve eaten the other fruit which many Christians ask themselves why they didn't. Through Monkey King we can see the dire consequences of Immortality with no self awareness of wrong doing. Just as Adam and Eve were like children before eating the fruit, so is Monkey King an Immortal Child with immense powers he doesn't understand. Also Tripitaka is like some kind of Incarabation of Buddha, just as Jesus is an incarnation of Yahweh. And such the demons are eating monks to be freed from the demonic state. Likewise Jesus said those who drink my blood and eat my flesh shall be forgiven of their sins, have eternal life and shall see heaven. There is so much more to comment on but not wanting to write a novel
I should also add that Tang Sanzang changed his name to Tripitaka. He called himself the Word, named himself the Word of Buddha. Jesus was called the Word of God. To eat his flesh was to digest the Word. The parallels are endless
Wukong left two marks on the Buddha's hand. Writings and his piss. Yes, he was pissing on to Buddha's middle finger. Imagine how Buddha was not getting emotional after that but still punished Wukong in a very demure way.
Ironically, I was wondering what happened since I hadn't seen you post anything. I love all your stuff, I recommend it to everyone who is into learning history
Great video! and research! Just to point out that it wasn't a plot hole how Wukong can fly and just get the scrolls. He mentioned to the monk that he can just carry him and fly over and get everything done in a minute. Tripitaka explained that he had to walk and experience tons of tests and trials to be worthy of the scrolls. Monkey king couldn't defy the monk so he had no choice but to walk with him. Also just to let you know, Tripitaka is a real person from the Tang dynasty and he really did journey to the west, albeit without the monkey and demons. Also the demons all want to eat him because he was the incarnation of Buddha's disciple and thus he is special, only his flesh can grant immortality compared to the other monks.
there's literally no real lore to his story. his story was changed and manipulated more than the Bible. literally they changed this folk tale multiple times just to fit certain lessons. his story is the ultimate story because really its all stories
In fact, the story main characters illustrates the three ‘poisons’ in sentient beings, namely greed represented by the pig, anger-wukong, ignorance-sha monk in the Buddhist teachings.
Cleansing alters is meant to be a happy ending for Piggy (Bajie) in the novel. Buddha gave him the job to “clean” aka eating people’s offerings (fruits, desserts, etc).
Knowing that the classic mythical story of A Journey to the West is definitely the childhood memory of millions of kids in China, it’s kinda fun for me to listen to a foreigner narrating it again. In fact, Sun Wukong was born from a stone, but this stone is not an ordinary stone. In Chinese mythology, Nuwa repaired the sky, and this stone was left over from the repair. Nuwa is like Eve in the Western world, she is the mother of the Chinese people. Later, this stone experienced tens of thousands of years, absorbed the essence of the world and the universe, and gave birth to Sun Wukong. So when Sun Wukong was born, the earth shook and the light shone directly to the heaven.

Wu Kong almost killed his master in the early days of the journey, the head band is for discipline, because the monk can’t even fight against a dog. Buddha taught him a spell that shrinks the band that causes headaches
Wukong had quarreled with Tang Monk but never hurt him. The first time they quarreled was because Wukong had killed six robbers. Wukong could not stand the rebuke from Tang monk, so he left him and went to drink tea with the Dragon King. Later the Dragon King persuaded Wukong to let him go back to apologize to Tang monk. Then the monk cheated Wukong to wear the band that causes headaches

Very well interpreted it!🎉
so am i wukong without my memories?
or a normal monkey?

It's wild how I knew about Wukong a while into knowing about Goku, and liked them both, but never put it together til recently that they are basically the same character. Or at least Goku is inspired by Wukong. Both of them can be shown as playful and mischievous, even simple and silly.. but they also have their don't F with me sides. Both can basically turn into big monkeys, and they both just get stronger the more they fight. Goku is basically presented as the strongest being in the universe next to what would be the highest of high creators.
Funny enough Goku also has a pig companion, and another companion who can't get enough of the ladies.

FYI, Journey to the West. The west of China is India, not Europe.
by legends Siddhartha Gautama ascended to enlightment in india, so yes, it has to be the sub continent
a trip to europe for buddhism is off the table obviously
Yup, it was about returning the Buddhist writing back to India where it came from. Then bring back new stuff, more like an exchange of knowledge.
Its a country called tianzhu, Conquered by Tang China and then became a vassal state of China
@@jesse89625 you may be correct, since India as we know it today, did not exist then.
No. Not really. The story of immortal monkey isn’t unique to China. It’s only know as monkey king and name Sun Wukong in China. In my native land, we have a different one about the immortal monkey. Journey to the West is not about China going to the West of China but went past China and travel to the West of China.
I'd be pretty mad if I almost got a giant dragon to travel the world on and the mf turns into a horse 🧍🏾♂️
😂 the journey to the west has to be walked on ground, otherwise Wukong can carry his monk master to the destination with a single flip
well said - I agree with everything you wrote
I love all your stuff, I recommend it to everyone who is into learning history
thank you, I appreciate that - keep recommending please haha 🫡
Great video! and research! Just to point out that it wasn't a plot hole how Wukong can fly and just get the scrolls. He mentioned to the monk that he can just carry him and fly over and get everything done in a minute. Tripitaka explained that he had to walk and experience tons of tests and trials to be worthy of the scrolls. Monkey king couldn't defy the monk so he had no choice but to walk with him.
Also just to let you know, Tripitaka is a real person from the Tang dynasty and he really did journey to the west, albeit without the monkey and demons. Also the demons all want to eat him because he was the incarnation of Buddha's disciple and thus he is special, only his flesh can grant immortality compared to the other monks.
there's literally no real lore to his story. his story was changed and manipulated more than the Bible. literally they changed this folk tale multiple times just to fit certain lessons. his story is the ultimate story because really its all stories
you can go read the original story where it tells the journey to the west and his lore before the entire backstory of black myth was established
@@steven8269 where do I go to read the original story?
In fact, the story main characters illustrates the three ‘poisons’ in sentient beings, namely greed represented by the pig, anger-wukong, ignorance-sha monk in the Buddhist teachings.
Cleansing alters is meant to be a happy ending for Piggy (Bajie) in the novel. Buddha gave him the job to “clean” aka eating people’s offerings (fruits, desserts, etc).
