This is great, I will be honest: I just love the classic look of the Jazz Bass, can't get enough of it. I played two Ibanez fretless btw, one ancient neck-through Artist one (man this one was good, ignoring electronics) and a sound gear one, also great. But for me: Jazz Bass rules them all! :)
It looks and sounds awesome, Renė, and it’s great that you got it modified the way you wanted. If I were in your shoes and making these same changes to the bass I most often play, I might have looked for a stacked-coil bridge pickup. The way I see it, if it was only going to have one pickup and it was going to be in the bridge position, why not try coming up with a result that made it slightly resembled the Stingray?
The Stingray option was totally on the table. But: I wanted a single coil at that exact position (for the sound I am after). A stringray pickup has a 3 way switch, where you can choose single coil, series, parallel, giving you a Musicman sound (and adding some new cavities for the screws). The Seymour Duncan hot stack was a total waste of money ($200), it was simply noisy, both hum and shielding. The Aguilar JB4 HC puts two coils next to each other. Very close to the classic JB single coil. And I knew already they are Really noiseless from my other Jazz Bass. I can honestly say I have not looked back.
Hey, to be honest de-fretting a bass is beyond my skill set and also willingness to do :) Filling the gaps properly so nothing sticks out I challenging from what I have heard. Cheers!
Wow that's Beautiful, Love to look and the Ramp extension is fantastic, Do you work on others basses as well, I have a beast of a bass that I Moded from an Old Fender P bass to one with this crazy extended fretless fretboard, and a P-J pickup set up, but it was in storage for a long time, and is fretting out very badly in the upper register. would love to talk to you about it. the neck is Ebony with epoxy as well but the range is about 26 frets, but fretless, I don't know if it can be saved.
Hmmm.. hard to diagnose. Fretting out means there is string buzz if I understand correctly. Would be interesting to know how the fretboard extension actually was done. I have to say I very rarely to never play on this extension, the tone and playability is not very nice. it is more for the right hand. Have you tried the usual suspects, truss rod and saddle height?
@@BassCave7 Yes, the neck was built completely as one long neck so it's not an add on, I had it build from scratch from a builder in California, it's Maple with ebony fretboard. would love to show it to you to get an idea.
I had all kinds of ideas for the ramp. I put actually small markings on it (cheat lines) so I can do the fake harmonics. That's why it's still in natural.
Great job. I'd like to see the bass after final touches. Thanks for sharing!
So much muah and bubbliness, looks cool as hell too. Great job dude
Thanks a ton!
Impressive mods.
That's a bass that's unique and sounds fantastic 👍.
Thank you for the compliment. I have way too many basses. Hands down, this is my favorite.
Good idea - great work! I traded my MIM fretles for an
Ibanez SRF700 where all these mods are obsolete

Thank you, @@BassCave7. I only wish I could trust myself to remember all that info.
Nice work. Would it have been a tad cheaper to have purchased a fretted bass, de-fret and epoxy? Great sound.

Ok interesting, how do you want to show it, I live in Australia 🇦🇺 how about you post a video!
Epoxy the ramp to match the fretboard
