Tuyo será Narcos theme song for Voice & Slap Bass
I simply love Rodrigo Amarante's theme song for Narcos "Tuyo será". What a beautiful, romantic song to played over so much violence, I can only recommend checking out the lyrics and translating them, they are worth it. This song has been part of my practice routine for finger breaking slap licks, upon request I finally recorded it. My deep dive into the great world of Latin America, its people, culture and music continues.

Besame Mucho on Harley Benton 7 string bass with Vocals
Переглядів 1692 місяці тому
I tried something new, a multitrack recording with my new Harley Benton BZ 7000 II NT, but this time with Vocals, and to top it off in Spanish to show off my new Duolingo Skills :) Besame Mucho has been with me for a long time as an accompanist for Jazz singers. Original is from Los Panchos I believe, it is a song that is wonderfully adaptive for all kinds of moods. Hope you enjoy.
Bach Invention 13 A minor on a 7 string electric Bass Harley Benton BZ-7000 II NT
Переглядів 5745 місяців тому
I love playing classical pieces on the electric bass. This Bach piece has been with me as a practice piece for a long time. On this special 7 string bass from Harley Benton I can play it in the original key and space the voices far apart to not stand in each other's way frequency wise. Note the positions I use in the right hand: on the lead voice the fingers are close to the neck, and the low v...
Honest Unboxing of the Harley Benton 7 String Bass BZ-7000 II NT from Thomann + Test Drive

I ordered this 7 string bass from Thomann in Germany. I am a big Thomann fan, I ordered heaps from them when I lived in Europe, reliable, value for money and well presented. I am hearing rave reviews especially for their bass guitars, so I said let's give it a shot. I always wanted to try a 7 string for fun, ideas and creativity. This model has incredible specs for money, but that's not the bes...
My completely honest review of the LTD B208 8 string bass

Ever thought about going 8 string? The LTD B208 8 string bass is one of the very few. This is my completely honest review of the instrument, some is good, some is bad. I played a lot of 8 string in the past, so I hope I know what I am talking about. Stick around for the sound samples in the end, they might inspire you what to do with an 8 string bass.
Shim my Bass - How I build and install a custom Shim on my 8 string bass
Переглядів 1,7 тис.6 місяців тому
In this video I am going to shim a bass. If you have no heard of this term, a shim is a very thin wedge, that is inserted between the neck and body of the bass to change the angle of the neck in relation to the body and strings. Sometimes you can see this done with a small piece of Sandpaper. Proper shimming would be done by inserting a very specially crafted wooden wedge. You could buy those, ...
JS Bach Invention 13 for 2 six string basses with visualization
Переглядів 7236 місяців тому
This JS Bach Invention 13 in A minor is originally written for piano or harpsichord rather. The composition is based on a theme on which 2 voices, left hand and right hand, elaborate and complement it each other. I worked on a solo arrangement for a while, then learned each of the voices and tried to make them sound good. I tried a number of basses, fretted and fretless. It sounds best on this ...
AliExpress Bass Jack Socket Nightmare - plus Fix
Переглядів 3717 місяців тому
I got extremely lucky with my six string bass from AliExpress about a year ago. The wood work is good, playability great. Electronics were abysmal, I replaced them. All was going, except: the jack socket. Trying to replace it turned into quite a nightmare, but I actually came up with a fix. Watch this video if you have the same problem, it seems a lot of AliExpress instruments have this faulty ...
I compared real Ernie Ball Bass strings with AliExpress bass strings
Переглядів 3,7 тис.8 місяців тому
Let's talk about bass strings from AliExpress! They keep popping up in the search, real brand names: Ernie Ball, D'Addario, Elixir, for incredibly low prices. But are these bass strings the same quality, I am going to compare them head to head. I compare the packaging, put the strings under under a magnifier. I present my first impressions if they sound or feel different, and finally I do prope...

Brilliant 👏
what pickup height did you set the Hz's to?
Expected to not even play out of the box? Yeah no thanks.
Bartolini is my personal fretless sound. you have exceptional technique and sound.
Very cool
WOW!!!!! That's an AMAZING TRANSFORMATION!!! That's passive only?
This is great, most bass pickup replacement videos show bass player not really showcasing the difference. Thank you for doing all this showcases.
Great job. I'd like to see the bass after final touches. Thanks for sharing!
Ahh...Bach! You can't beat it.
Lovely
What are those strings? It sounds great, I just got a 6 string fretless and my High C sounds dead, it comes with flats
Hi Erin, those are Fodera steel round wounds, light medium. I went all out 😊 flat wounds are a bit old fashioned and are only if you never want to hit a high note. If I have the choice again, I go for nickel. They glide and slide smoother and are a bit gentler.
Great review 👌👏
Again with another useful vid on bass haha thanks man!
Hi, this bass is a chinese copy of a brazilian DeOliveira bass. The original model is called Rainbow KF. You can check them here: youtube.com/@deoliveira_bass?feature=shared
Perfetto!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
love it!
The thing i would go ask to the team were to send the bass unfinished. Their glossy poly finish is horrible and i hate coated neck. i would do some oil finish and wax by myself for really better result in terms of feel and look. it's easy and anyone can do it.
Never though of that, interesting! Well this is something you can request from them. Not all requests eventuate. Spoiler. But thanks for watching.
Great playing ! Fretless electric is my first choice of bass ! I learnt alot from your video about epoxying the fingerboard . Thanks
Thank you for the feedback! I just love plain black fretboards. Great that some people make it to my less popular vids :)
Great video ! Thank you ! Straight forward and informative!
Thank you, more than a year in, it's still holding perfectly.
About 8 years ago I did the exact same thing......BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!! I wanted a Left handed 4-strings Fretless bass. When it arrived, it looked good, but played really bad (cheap on everything) ....you get what you pay for. In the end, since I already had a Schecter Stiletto Studio 5 , I went for the fretless version, I've been happy since then.
Interesting. I once had a Schecter 8 string. Actually really good.
Very surprised at how good this bass sounded, especially when slapped and tapped! Hmm
I can't believe my luck. I have a total AliExpress dud standing in the corner as well on the other hand...
That's so amazing
Thank you! There are better 8 strings though...
😂
Every feedback welcome :)
hahaha the fakes sound better...
The difference was not big, that's for sure.
So the bass was made by a woodworker without luthier knowledge? I't s bad enough having to updgrade pickups etc on low and mid cost basses. But at least those basses are constructed corectly. What I am seeing on Aliexpress bass reviews are super wide necks. I prefer an original P bass neck over the J bass neck width. I have an American Standard Fender active 5 string J bass. It seems a bit wide compared ro my other 5 string basses. I also saw on other reviews that some AliExpress basses pickup and string centering over the pick up having to be altered causing the necks to look even wider.
I would say a regular woodworker could not do this kind of work. It is not perfect, but it is really good where it matters, neck playability, neck angle, neck stability. I have one AliExpress Bass that is very much beyond saving anything. It is just gathering dust. This can happen too.
Wish i have that right hand muting technique... Nice
Practice. If I can do it (drum roll) you can do it!
WHY ??? Why are people continually making videos to promote, intentionally or unintentionally, these rip-off fakes? It would be acceptable IF they didn’t put the brand name or logo on the headstock. If someone tried to sell you a fake Rolex with the Rolex name on it, you would call that an attempted rip-off.
I thought about this long and hard, because I also would not buy a knock off Rolex. 1. You can have them customized, which works... Most of the time. 2. The value for money is great, once you fixed them up they are actually great instruments. 3. The big volume brands produce in Asia anyway. I think it's good the whole purchase price goes there, rather big corporations keeping all the margins. But you are right, the shape of body and head are ripped off, I won't buy them again.
@@BassCave7 I really appreciate your intelligently conveyed opinions. I just really hope these instruments don’t cause problems in the future when they’re resold. Some folks might be tempted to take advantage of a person who is unaware of these copies. Plus I worry about the sales of these instruments undermining the economics of small but very important American companies, and also undermining the American economy, however slightly. I wonder how many more industries in the US have this same issue. It could all add up to a real mess. Let’s also encourage each other to record our own REAL music ! Where’s the satisfaction in using these chord packs or whatever you call these AI produced keyboard and bass generating software? Yes, I use drum software, but I have been teaching myself enough keys to play the piano/synth parts. So 3 cheers for all of us real artists !!!
Your image/sound synchronization is off. Always let the image come first. That and your wiggling posture is makes it hard to watch.
Thank you for the feedback!
Epoxy the ramp to match the fretboard
I had all kinds of ideas for the ramp. I put actually small markings on it (cheat lines) so I can do the fake harmonics. That's why it's still in natural.
Nice mod. I should have done _this_ instead of using superglue.
I found quite a few doing it with super glue, epoxy can be coloured pretty well. And until now it just lasts. Incredible stuff
Outstanding ❤
Thank you so much!
Now play both voices simultaneously.
Dream on! 😂
Beautiful tone and playing 👌
This bass is surprisingly good. Very hard to tame 😂
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks, much appreciated!
Took a chance on this particular model, Rene. You also made it sound like 1 million bucks to use American alanguage. Possibly, if I had them disposable moolah, I would have the personnel at the successor to Carvin, Kiesel, build me a model along the specifications of this particular bass. Only, I would have it built headless and with an adapter at the top end so I could use my strings of choice. Furthermore, I would tune the bottom six strings in accordance with standard guitar tuning, not E-A-D-G-C-F.
Interesting... you might have luck on AliExpress. Sometimes they can build to surprising specifications. Sometimes they ignore them though :(
Also in Australia. Could I send you a neck to do?
Well as much as I would like to, I live a vagabond's AirBnb life in the moment. I might have a workshop in a couple months again, I might contact you then. But thanks for the confidence. But realistically: If I can do it, you can do it.
@@BassCave7 yeah, some things I'm keen to try and do myself, other things I just can't be bothered
I didn't come here for a lecture on the environment.
Then consider the lecture a bonus!
Duly noted. I did not know a couple of sentences would be considered a lecture. It's just something that is important to me.
@@BassCave7Keep it going! It is in fact important. Really considering buying one of those basses, by the way!
Price?
With shipping all up a bit over 1000 AUD.
Congratulations on your 7 string bass! 😊
Hey Kosta, thank you! Talk soon
@@BassCave7 no worries 👍
A friend of mine has one of those but changed the strings and the setup in order to get a Low F# So now it's tuned F#0BEADGC
This sounds amazing. I wonder how you would get a Low F# string, just tuning it down would make it very wobbly.
@@BassCave7His lowest string is .165 gauge
And that is actually thin for an F#0, I played a 170 gauge on a multiscale and it was too floppy.@@steffomca762
@@BassCave7I use a .170
Kg?
5 kilos plus. Hands down the heaviest bass I have.
👍👍👍👍👍👍🤘
Glad you liked it! 🎸
Hey nice bass, sounds great. Looks good for practicing modes all the way up the neck. Anyway that's the reason I'm building a small scale seven string. An eleven string from the low F# would be progressive for practicing. I have an Ibanez seven string converted into a five with tuning F#BEAD. That spacious spacing is close to 3/4 of an inch! And someday I'll get some advice on what pickups to install. An acoustic resonator five string with this spacious space and neck profile perhaps. I'm sawing some silver maple in back for future projects.
Anybody know why the blue letters sometimes people, in my comment why blue. F#bead it took a while to figure it out, and it's done nice. I'm just rebounding after using the chainsaw mill.

Nice tip, experiments like this I only do on AliExpress basses. :)
@@BassCave7 I agree with that. I've had a wait before I could get into the focus of instruments. And I underestimated how important music is for mental health. Hopefully it's not upsetting to hear about the Ibanez I modified. I intend to learn to build the bass. I've built a couple guitars and I couldn't be more happy with them. Pretty soon I'll attempt to built a bass.
Another great video!
Glad you liked it, will hammer out a few recording soon🎸

Hey there!! I have just bought this terrafic Bass!!! can you explain about the controls???? (where is what, i mean volume, balance, active passive mode, etc......) thanks!!!!
ua-cam.com/video/HSO6FlMnJ40/v-deo.html I did this with the electronics. Those EMG 45HZ pickups are amazing, and I set them up like passive Jazz Bass controls. Works amazing.
Hi! The instrument you own looks very much as a De Oliveira bass, a small Brazilian basses company from Natal, capital of the Northeast state of Rio Grande do Norte. The 12th fret logo looks very much like the logo they use on their instruments. They have a UA-cam official channel (Portuguese only, I'm afraid). If you feel like it, check them out. Cheers!
Ouh you are right, I already found out a while back. I was really disappointed because the bass did not look like a knock off like they usually have on AliExpress. They had a brand name "Flyoung" so I thought it was original. Sadly still a copy, I will buy them no more. Admittedly, the two basses I have, 6 string, 6 string fretless are really tops, play well, sound great. The electronics were completely disfunctional, butbeasy to replace.
Chinese are selling fakes De Oliveira basses. The original ones come with Bartolini. Thoose basses worth every penny!
cool instrument, and nice to hear you got your issues sorted. stay bassin' brother
Thanks, will do! Next adventure is 7 string :)
Hey buddy, one more thing the way the strings are wound up more than three times. It's best for resonance but more stress on the truss rod. Probably try and save the string's and detention all string's and shorten the wraps around the tuner's.
Hey Mario, I agree as much winding as possible (without a mess) sometimes I make a bad judgement and it's close. :) My teacher back in the day told me this way the strings hold the tuning better. And when you have more winding the string comes from a lower position to the nut, thus having a stronger angle causing less unwanted resonance.
@@BassCave7 Actually I also went with similar winding earlier. I'm still not certain about it. But the extra winding seems to add tension. I guess guys might argue it but it's personal preference. There's different directions you can take instruments and most lend itself to a certain tonal direction. I definitely like the extra down tension sometimes but it's not totally nessasery. You know changing the tuners might be good for better down tension like you mentioned. Gotoh tuners are great because of the taper they provide the strings. Well different instruments work with different hardware.
