      Hi Jake, when my son was 5years it was identified that he is having myopia. R -6.5 & L -3.5. Doctor said it could be genetic, and by birth. During his childhood there were few traces of him getting hit to the wall. We never thought of it could be due to vision issue s, as none of us in the family had vision issues. When he was 7 years, minor lattice degeneration has been detected. Now he is 8years. We are not sure whether he has congenital myopia. When I was going through your PDF, I found a disclaimer that this method is not suitable for congenital myopia and degeneration cases. My question is, going by above information, would you please let me know whether my son can follow this technique?

    I have done Bates exercises for a while, time ago, and my vision improved. They are based to studies done by Bates himself, and they may be incomplete yet there is something very true in them. The concept behind is to trick the mind to relax, seeing things confortable like the white in between the letters or only one tini corner of a letter, again and again. Watching things far distant and then close is also a very good exercise. They worked for me. What you are suggesting is not far from Bates, do you know that? to keep that little blurry distance to read or watch the computer screen (I imagine you also mean without glasses). And then use the glasses when u need it, gradually lowering down the prescription.
    Thank you for sharing your experience and ideas! 😎

    not only stimulus, also exterior muscles, and the flexibility and balance. When I do AF and try to see the detail, when I release muscles I've become aware of, and 'balance' em, it starts to zoom in. The gottlieb presbyopia chart made me aware of these muscles, when one has to try to increase stereographic depth.

    I feel this is legit because it requires WORK! The optometry industry is based on the "quick fix," and as the quick fix is affordable and works well, the industry thrives
    How many of have the time or inclination to practice active focus every day? It's simpler to just slip on a pair of glasses or contacts (for myopia)

    completely agree with your concept of active focusing ... this is wht i was doing around a month now.But dont completely agree with your exercise thing.As per my experience , exercise do help in regaining a clear focus faster then without them and also helps in keeping the focus for a longer time.Also relaxing exercise like palming do help relieve eyes of strain caused by focusing.

    what people do not get is that 20 centimeters is almost one diopter. so that blur edge is something around 5 centimeters of adjustment for differential.

    I think a visual of active blur would be very helpful... showing the sweet spot target with word but also with visuals.. it could be easily done with manual focus mode on smart phones. my understanding is that we want to always see crisp but with the eyes having to refocus occasionally through conscious deliberate effort..such as what triggers a blink.. and that we don't want to abide in a slightly blur state..because it can derail the progress.

    Blinking has the opposite effect for me. My eyes are -3.75 and -4.0 and some times my distance vision much clearer but then my eyes start burning for some odd reason (do you know why?) and I have to blink and when I blink it goes back to being blurry again.

    One of the studies suggested compensatory anatomical changes during defocus dictated automatically by the retina (the researchers state that trimming the optic nerve didn't affect the remodelling of the sclera). Chickens seems to reverse myopia quickly through neurochemical modulation dictated by the retina. They don't have the time to get used to bluriness and stop emmetropization as humans seem to do. Would be interesting to understand how the retina recognizes that a image is blurry to activate compensatory mechanisms without the intervention of the brain (although the retina is brain evolutionarily speaking, so a kind of local regulatory mechanism not requiring centres in the higher brain might quietly exist ). Understanding in detail how this local process works would definitely be a great achievement . I'm gonna ask some researchers in the field of biology what their thoughts are on these arguments.

Or, should i work with only the weaker eye until it has caught up to the other, and then resume active focus with both eyes together. Thanks for all these resources and your free thinking.

    There's two different ways I am able to clear the blur, I don't know which would be correct (or if both or neither are). I can stare at something for a long time and focus on it. Eventually my eyes start watering a lot and the image clears up, which this gives my eyes a tired feeling after a while like they went to the gym. The other thing is when I blink (and it usually works best if I blink really hard) and that clears up the image too and this gives my eyes the same tired feeling. Can anyone tell me which is the right way of doing active focus?

    • @stefanSS1480
      @stefanSS1480 5 років тому

      No man, i have the too, like you can blink very hard and it clears up, but active focus is about a simple blink, also when your eye gets watery it's the water in your eye that acts like a lens and makes vision clear, I can do this too, but I don't recomend it. To fix your vision there is one principle: less staring at screen and use the distance vision take wals etc.

    Jake, trying active focus for the first time, the 20/20 line of text became crystal clear for a few seconds and then went blurry again. A couple of weeks later I covered my eyes individually and can see 20/20 perfectly, however both eyes together, I need to close my eyes just a tiny bit and it's clear. Optometrists have told me that I have astigmatism of the cornea. They can't explain my 20/20 vision. Can you?

    I think it's just simple math:
    1. Time looking far away vs. time looking up close.
    2-Lens stimulus you are getting, minus make eyes more nearsighted and plus make it more farsighted.
    3-Time on good natural light vs. crap inside light.
    Active focus is maybe a bit of stimulus to the eyes that you can't see well enough-no more than that.

    I'm interested but it's hard to figure out what your all about. I've seen some of your other stuff dissing print pushing then you describe the method perfectly here as active focus. Unfortunately fairly monotone and run off so I didn't finish the video but knowing my shit, I'm guessing the rest of "active focus is borrowed from some of the more lesser known lessons Bates talked about such as tracing Sketching, relaxing and blinking with your own spin on the description. That's cool, you need to differentiate yourself from the methods you're using because Bates has devolved into a meditation practice instead of habitual use and proper form. I agree even though I am putting words in your mouth. I also think you still have some difficulty with astigmatism your tilts to the right (on video) and you also have uneven shoulders that could be your last ticket to getting past the 20/20 plateu. But my eyes still suck. That's why I am watching, I really want to know what can you offer me. I'm looking through your stuff I agree with with you so far but I've been burned before so I gotta ask. I want specifics

    There is no practical difference between this and the Bates method.
    Both are eye exercises and both do the same thing.
    If you do one round of the Bates method certainly vision is clearer, why, how, don't know, perhaps they are stimulating the Active Focus, after all the exercises are just the same .... slightly blurry then clear up.

    • @endmyopia
      @endmyopia  7 років тому

      "Why, how, don't know .." exactly. That's Bates Method in a nutshell. Bonus: it doesn't last long past the exercises!

    • @rideforever

      The important thing is that it works, at least that is my experience, strengthening muscles is not an unusual concept is it.
      The second important thing is that in my experience it is not different to what you are describing, at least that is how I always did the pumping methods from Bates.
      Your concept is that you can strengthen the muslces at the front of the eye ... but if that is possible then why wouldn't it be possible to strengthen the main lens muslces ?
