While Metal Gear is a masterpiece, there are most certainly other _older_ titles that are still analyzed to this day. Those others certainly deserve credit where it's due. Fallout, Deus Ex, System Shock, Planescape: Torment. I can keep going. These games, and many others, are still loved and analyzed.
Will never forget beating this game on Thanksgiving Day in 2002 with my dad sitting there watching all the cutscenes with me. My mom walked into the den during a codec scene where Colonel was rambling about La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo and said “what the **** kind of game is this?” and my dad and I fell out laughing because even then at the time we didn’t even know what we were witnessing. Playing through these games in my late 20s right now and I’m only here to say Kojima is the Tarantino of the gaming industry

As a marine, the thought of the marine corps ever having enough money to make something like that when we haven’t even moved away from m16’s is laughable as fuck.
The m16 has aged well for its self. When it started out, it was competing against AKM’s, ak47’s, and in the case of western items, G3’s, FAL’s, and m14’s for quality. It outmatched all of these by sheer weight and size (or lack there of.) The same can not be said of the m16a4. (Jesus Christ man, just put a m4 lower in that thing already!)

Regardless, we won’t know how good they until you have actual guys deployed using them for extended periods of time. At the end of the day what matters is: 1) is it gonna jam up on me after the elements have abused it? 2) how easy is it to clean? 3) is it durable? 4) can i consistently kill my enemies with it

I thought the implication behind Ocelot stating he's taking RAY to the Patriots was that the project was instigated by the Patriots rather than merely funded, as foreshadowing to them being used to support Arsenal Gear.
Mgs, especially 2 and 3 basically defined me as a young adult. I was influenced heavily by 3, it was the last game I played before my mom died, played through3 in its entirety during a really bad flu during Christmas break in 2004(2005?) I'll never forget how impactful MGS was to me as a child, with the NES games, as a 10/11 year old with MGS1, a young teen with MGS2, a young adolescent with MGS3, never got to play MGS4 until adulthood, so maybe it had less of an influence on me; I'll always be partial to the first 3 games on the ps1/ps2. I was a recent HS graduate when this game debuted and it was a total mind freak…never played a game that broke the 4th wall so convincingly like the Arsenal Gear section of this game.
I really wish they had done more with Philanthropy, it gets only passing mentions after the Tanker Chapter, like I think the only reference to it in MGS4 is the patch on Snake's tactical rig. It would have been cool if we could have learned more about it, or seen it grow or change during MGS4 in some way.
Philanthropy was created a few years before the tanker mission and ended at the tanker mission because of the Cypher that video tapped them attacking the tanker branding them terrorists for life

@@JunkyardHounds potentially. I didn't feel the same impact from V but I understand a lot of the meta narrative and subtext. I think it will be very hard for people to get over the way the game launched incomplete and the whole drama between konami/kojima.
@@o-REDBEARD-o Except the game didn't launch incomplete and that's part of it's theme. The whole game features repetition and lack of wholeness on a narrative, thematic and gameplay level. That's no fluke. The game is 100% complete. Also, by logic, when you have no time to complete a game it won't be a polished work. The first thing to do is write the plot and the cutscenes were almost all shown 2 to 3 years before the game came out. How does that feel incomplete to you ? That's one of the sad things about the game, people not being able to see it for what it is but that was, imo, kojima's aim.

I hadn't played MGS2 since 2004. I bagged the master collection for a decent price and just beat the first 2 games. Was looking for a companion video after playing the first 2 games, specifically MGS2 before starting MGS3. This is absolutely fantastic. I had no issues understanding what was going on while playing. But the extra context this video adds. Just might put MGS2 on my Mount Rushmore of games.
So Snake is coming from Upper Manhattan, walking to Fort Lee NJ while timing his fast rope descent to the tanker. As the tanker is passing by Hudson County NJ as well as Manhattan, it also passes by Bayonne NJ and going by Staten Island.
Anyone that played the series in order knows what actually is going on the tanker mission setup the big shell and it was a simulation created by the patriots to reawaken Raiden so he can kill his mentor solids aka George sears this entire simulation is based on the metal gear solid game but there was one thing the patriots failed to calculate the response of solid snake himself thanks to snake and Raiden the attack on the big shell was resolved and Ray Ray away setting up metal gear solid 4 Raidens passed came back X10 and he went dark and came back as lightning in metal gear solid 4 leaving rose and his child unprotected from the patriots which is why toy Campbell married rose to shield her and her child I can continue on this was type before the opening so yeah
Ever notice the BSA is basically the Resident Evil version of Philanthropy? First games surviving heroes joining a group dedicated to wiping out the main threat of the franchise.
People got so upset that you didn't play as snake. I was only like 11 or 12 years old and I understood that it just wasn't meant to be a game about solid snake. It was about you feeling like Raiden in the game and watching and learning from snake through from that point of view and it was awesome because it added real depth to it. A depth that has withstood still being a masterpiece by today's standards nearly 20 years on.
What I don't get is that Marines can't put uniformed or even armed soldiers on deck because they'd rise too much suspicion (fair enough), but Gurlukovich men have no problem patrolling outside in full Spetznaz gear.
It's more like the Marines didn't want to arise suspicion from enemies like the Russians that they were transporting a Metal Gear inside that tanker but of course, the Russians already had intel on that.

People got so upset that you didn't play as snake. I was only like 11 or 12 years old and I understood that it just wasn't meant to be a game about solid snake. It was about you feeling like Raiden in the game and watching and learning from snake through from that point of view and it was awesome because it added real depth to it. A depth that has withstood still being a masterpiece by today's standards nearly 20 years on.
Raiden is a Simulacrum of Snake. An imitation. All aesthetics and no soul.
I don’t know if I can watch this… I may have to wait until the miniseries is complete so I can watch them one after the other 🤔

What I don't get is that Marines can't put uniformed or even armed soldiers on deck because they'd rise too much suspicion (fair enough), but Gurlukovich men have no problem patrolling outside in full Spetznaz gear.
It's more like the Marines didn't want to arise suspicion from enemies like the Russians that they were transporting a Metal Gear inside that tanker but of course, the Russians already had intel on that.
